Shields, Brooke
Brooke Christa Shields was born on May 31, 1965. During her Communion at age 10, Brooke adopted a second middle name. What is Brooke's full baptismal name? | Brooke Shields - Beautifully Brooke
|
Brooke Christa Camille Shields. Brooke was born in New York City, the daughter of Frank and Teri Shields. Her father was an executive with Revlon Cosmetics, and her mother was a former model who subsequently became Brooke's manager. Brooke began her modeling career at the tender age of 11 months, when she was selected as the "Most Beautiful Baby in America" for an Ivory Soap advertising campaign.
Brooke's professional life has been divided between modeling and theatrical work. In the middle 1980s, she took a four year hiatus from her career to earn a degree in French literature. Which Ivy League college did Brooke attend? | Brooke Shields - Beautifully Brooke
|
Princeton. Brooke graduated with honors from Princeton University in 1987. She majored in French literature, and also developed an interest in live theater as a member of Princeton's famed Triangle Club. In addition to her work in modeling, film, and television, Brooke has also performed in several stage productions, including the off-Broadway production "The Eden Cinema" (1984), and Broadway revivals of "Grease" (1994) and "Cabaret" (2001).
Brooke is one of the most-photographed models in history, and she graced the covers of more than 400 magazines in the 1980s alone. During that decade, did Brooke ever appear on the cover of "Playboy" magazine? | Brooke Shields - Beautifully Brooke
|
Yes. Brooke did not pose nude for "Playboy", but she did model for the cover of the magazine's December 1986 Christmas Issue. The photo was a close-up facial portrait in which Brooke wore a red Christmas tree ornament as an earring.
Brooke starred in the 1980 romance drama "The Blue Lagoon", playing the role of Emmeline, a teenage girl shipwrecked on a tropical island. Who portrayed Richard, Emmeline's sole marooned companion? | Brooke Shields - Beautifully Brooke
|
Christopher Atkins. "The Blue Lagoon" was a "coming of age" film about Emmeline (Brooke Shields) and Richard (Christopher Atkins). Together, Emmeline and Richard experienced puberty, young adulthood, and eventually parenthood, all while marooned alone on a desert isle. The film was considered rather risqué for the era, due to its frank portrayal of teenage maturation and the underlying human sexuality issues. "Blue Lagoon" received a 1981 Saturn Award nomination for Best Fantasy Film, and also earned Néstor Almendros a 1981 Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography.
Brenda Starr. "Brenda Starr" is one of the classic soap opera comic strips, chronicling the exploits of a glamorous newspaper reporter. The strip was created by Dale Messick in 1940; more recently, it has been written by Mary Schmich and drawn by cartoonist June Brigman.
Brooke's portrayal of Brenda Starr marked the third time the comic strip had been adapted to film (twice as motion pictures, and once as a TV movie). Brooke starred in the 1989 theatrical release "Brenda Starr" (and deliberately gained 20 extra pounds for her role as Brenda). The original motion picture, "Brenda Starr, Reporter", was released in 1945 and starred Joan Woodbury in the title role. The TV movie "Brenda Starr" was originally broadcast on ABC in 1976 and starred Jill St. John.
Magazine columnist. "Suddenly Susan" aired for four seasons on NBC from 1996 to 2000, and was Brooke's first starring television vehicle. She was also one of the show's producers. Her character Susan Keane wrote a column for "The Gate" magazine in San Francisco, detailing her personal life experiences and observations.
Brooke gained her starring role on "Suddenly Susan" in large part because of a memorable comedy performance she delivered as a guest star on "Friends" (playing Erika Ford, a fan obsessed with Joey Tribbiani's soap opera character, Dr. Drake Ramoray). Brooke's other television work has included appearances on "That '70s Show", "Just Shoot Me", "Quantum Leap", and "Circus of the Stars".
Despite her wide popular appeal, Brooke Shields has not enjoyed a great deal of critical acclaim as an actress. In 2000, she was nominated for a Razzie Award (the "Golden Raspberry") as the Worst Actress of the Century. Prior to that notorious nomination, how many times had Brooke actually won a dreaded Razzie? | Brooke Shields - Beautifully Brooke
|
3. Pop singer Madonna earned the dubious honor of being named Razzie's Worst Actress of the Century. Brooke was nominated for her body of motion picture work, including "The Blue Lagoon", "Endless Love", "Sahara", and other films. Elizabeth Berkley, Bo Derek, and Pia Zadora also received nominations.
Although she escaped the most ignominious award, Brooke has been no stranger to Golden Raspberry consideration. Prior to being edged by Madonna for Worst Actress of the Century, she was nominated for six Razzie Awards and won three: Worst Actress (1981, for "The Blue Lagoon"), Worst Supporting Actor (1983, for "Sahara"), and Worst Supporting Actress (1989, for "Speed Zone!"). Brooke's 1981 "honor" for "Blue Lagoon" was the first Worst Actress Razzie ever awarded.
Andre Agassi. Brooke and Andre were married from April 19, 1997 to April 9, 1999. Brooke ultimately had their marriage annulled so she could remarry in the Catholic Church.
Brooke married her second husband, writer/producer Chris Henchy, on April 4, 2001. Two years later, Brooke gave birth to the couple's first child. What is the rather unusual first name of Chris and Brooke's daughter? | Brooke Shields - Beautifully Brooke
|
Rowan. Brooke gave birth to Rowan Francis Henchy - her first child - on May 15, 2003. Shortly after becoming a mother, Brooke appeared in an advertising campaign for Bright Beginnings baby formula. The campaign featured a couple of humorous television commercials in which Brooke essentially made a fool of herself in front of her baby. The baby appearing in the ads was a child model, not her daughter Rowan.
