Fried chicken. Their specialty is fried chicken and in my opinion, they make the best fried chicken, better than KFC.

What type of berry did Walter Knott, co-founder of Knott's Berry Farm (he and his wife Cordelia both founded Knott's Berry Farm), transplant?Knott's Berry Farm

Boysenberry. I believe that a man by the name of Rudolph Boysen was actually the originator of the boysenberry. Walter Knott simply transplanted the boysenberry plants he found on Boysens' abandoned property. Subsequently, he named boysenberries after their true originator.

What do Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm have in common (besides the fact that they're both theme parks)?Knott's Berry Farm

Both have a western-themed section of their theme parks. Both of them have a western themed section of their theme parks. Disneyland has Frontierland and Knott's Berry Farm has Ghost Town, which is close to the entrance of the park. As for a Mexican-culture section, Knott's Berry Farm has such a thing called Fiesta Village. Disneyland has a fantasy-themed section called Fantasyland and Disneyland also has a Mark Twain-esque ferry boat ride.

What is the motto of Knott's Berry Farm?Classic Knott's Berry Farm

The Friendliest Place in the West. Knott's used to be well known as the place the "locals" in Southern California went to escape from the crazy tourists at Disneyland which is known as the Happiest Place on Earth.

What were Mr. and Mrs. Knott's first names?Classic Knott's Berry Farm

Walter and Cordelia. You find many references to "Southern Calfornia's other Walter" like the riverboat "Walter K" on Reflection Lake, and Cordelia's name pops up all over the park too. In one of the "Bird Cage" melodrama's the name of the Riverboat was the "Cordelia K" and "Cordy's Corner" in the heart of the Roaring 20's area (now the Boardwalk) is named for Cordelia.

Knott's was known for having the first "Log Ride" type attraction with the opening of "Timber Mountain Log Ride" in 1969. What famous American actor was photographed in the newspaper opening the ride with his son? Classic Knott's Berry Farm

John Wayne. John Wayne was on hand to christen the ride in on opening day on July 11, 1969. It was the first ride of it's kind and very well themed. It's still fun all these years later. There is a laser at a couple hidden locations that look for someone to break the beam to signal a loud recorded voice "Sit Down". If you have a boat full of enlightened riders who know just where the beams are, you can wave your hands in the air safely, and break the beam multiple times causing a cool "s-s-s-s-s-s-s-Sit Down" Don't even think of really standing up though! Always be safe and follow the park rules wherever you are!

Knott's Berry Farm had another first. It had the first modern rollercoaster to ride on an all metal track that took riders completely upside down. It was manufactured by Arrow in Valencia, Ca. What was the name of the coaster?Classic Knott's Berry Farm

Corkscrew. Arrow built the Matterhorn at Disneyland in 1959, but it did not go upside down. Revolution at Magic Mountain was the first with a vertical loop. Knott's had the Corkscrew in 1975 that was the first upside Arrow coaster and started the roller coaster boom once again after some lean years in the 50's and 60's. Of course Montezooma's Revenge is a shuttle loop coaster at Knott's but came later on and is still running today.

Knotts has a dark ride up above the Arcade in the Roaring Twenties area called "Kingdom of the Dinosaurs". What was the name of the ride that the dinosaurs replaced?Classic Knott's Berry Farm

Knott's Beary Tales. Knott's Beary Tales was one of the most endearing dark rides ever. You rode in a cute little car through meadows and forests and saw the bears preparing their famous Boysenberry Pie and Jam while frogs jumped and a sly old fox tried to steal the pies. Many of the figures from this ride were moved to the fun house in Camp Snoopy and entertained kids there for many years until Charlie Brown's gang kicked them out for good.

Knott's features two houses built out of what unique building materials?Classic Knott's Berry Farm

Bottles and barrels. The Barrel House is made out of wood barrels and shows how the pioneers used anything they could find to build a shelter. The Bottle House is made of glass bottles and cement. The bottles make a very sturdy house and it is quite unique. It's interesting that the bottles are "bottom side out" because if they were "neck side out" it might make a rather interesting sound when the wind blew! Just a couple of the historical artifacts you can see around the farm.

What means of transporation could you NOT take at Knott's Berry Farm before?Classic Knott's Berry Farm

Canoe. The Walter K. Riverboat takes you around Reflection Lake. The Calico and Ghost Town Railroad takes a grand circle tour around the park and the Calico Mine Ride has a train that takes you deep into the Calico Silver Mine. There is also a third Train inside Camp Snoopy that circles Reflection Lake. The Butterfield Stage takes you on a genuine (well mostly) stagecoach ride around the park from Calico Square. To the best of my knowledge Knott's has never offered canoe rides. For that you have to go about 10 miles southeast to Disneyland. There is a canoe though, but you can't ride it. Woodstock and his friends are riding it on top of the waterfalls near the entrance to Camp Snoopy.

Many people came to Knott's for the food. When other parks were offering highly expensive, less than appetizing food, Knott's started out offering great food. What dish was Cordelia famous for, actually serving this dish on her wedding china in the beginning?Classic Knott's Berry Farm

Fried Chicken. Walter opened a berry stand (hence the name Knott's Berry Farm) and Cordelia wanted to supplement the income by serving hot food. She opened Cordelia's Tea House and served her family's favoite Fried Chicken on her wedding china. Soon the fried chicken became so famous that on Sundays the lines would back up Beach Boulevard for many blocks. To give people something to do, and feeding his interest in the old west, Walter began purchasing buildings from authentic western towns and moving them to Knott's Ghost Town. From pony rides to a miniature train to a riverboat and gradually ghost town became an amusement park. The rest as the say, is history!

Most people know of the famous Knott's Halloween Haunt that is held every year in October when Knott's Berry Farm transforms into Knott's Scary Farm. Knott's also has a special event for the little ones where they can dress up, compete in a costume contest, and even trick or treat with the friends. What is this event called that occurs on weekends in October?Classic Knott's Berry Farm

Camp Spooky. Camp Spooky (a play on the name Camp Snoopy) started out as a really nice event. Since the park was decorated somewhat spooky for the Halloween Haunt anyway, they were able to use that to add atmosphere to the Peanuts characters in costume that roamed around the park. There were Halloween shows with singing Monsters, Kelbi the Living Doll came on in a witch costume with a sock puppet named Fernie, and there was even games and stuff for the kids to do. It was nice to have Lucy hold the football for my daughter to attempt a field goal without having her pull the ball away at the last second. Then there were 10 trick or treat stops along the trails where the kids got candy, notebooks and pens, storybooks, little toys, and more treats. Top it off with a special Peanuts maze where we all searched for The Great Pumpkin which really appeared in the pumpkin patch. Then down the slide and chance to get more candy from Snoopy himself. Charlie Brown unfortunately got a rock!

Everyone is familiar with the Church of Reflections along Reflection lake where you could attend church on Sunday morning in a non-denominational service WITHOUT paying park admission. Is there or was there, another chapel at Knott's besides the Church of Reflections?Classic Knott's Berry Farm

Yes. Of course there is, or was at least. Behind the Church of Reflections there was a little adobe chapel with a painting of Christ on the wall. If you requested there was a short message and lighting effects that told a story. It was one of the other little known secret places you could visit at Knotts.

When you enter the Berry Farm from the main gate, there is an area directly in front of you where you could see the Stunt Show during the day and cool entertainment during the evening most of the year. It was here that The Wagonmasters used to sing songs of the old west, then later Chapparal entertained us here beside a gas fireplace. You could even sit inside a covered wagon and watch the show if you got there early. Here is where we used to see Elvis or Beatles impersonators or maybe a hypnotist to entertain. What is this area called?Classic Knott's Berry Farm

The Wagon Camp. The Wagon Camp was home to a lot of good old fashioned entertainment. People everyday were completely fooled by a tourist from Florida who worked for Disney World who would be pulled up out of the audience only to take the high fall off the top of the stage. He was a plant of course, but somebody always screamed when he fell. Here we saw Bob McGrath of Sesame Street and Kowboy Kal would pull the kids up onstage to do his rope tricks. Every Easter Sunday a free sunrise service would be open to the public. The Wagon Camp is quite a bit of Orange County history.
