Kimi Raikkonen. Raikkonen announced the move after Michael Schumacher decided to retire, despite the fact he didn't win a race in 2006 with McLaren. His departure left the gate open for Alonso's move to McLaren for 2007.

He signed as reserve driver for Williams in 2006 and he moved up to his first full time drive since 2000 in 2007, replacing Mark Webber. He shared the team with Nico Rosberg.

Robert Kubica. Kubica entered Formula one in 2006 as the test driver for BMW Sauber. However, when they fell out with Villeneuve, Kubica was promoted and scored points in his first ever race, however was disqualified for an underweight car. In his third race he finished third and on the podium, as well as having led the race for a time during pit stops. But it doesn't matter, his records are first pole on the podium, first pole to lead a race, and first pole to score World Championship points.

Red Bull Racing. The 2007 Red Bull cars were fitted with Renault engines. Mark Webber was managed by Flavio Briatore who runs Renault. The new Red Bull car was designed by Adrian Newey, who had designed championship winning cars before. Mark Webber started off at Minardi, moved to Jaguar, and in 2005 signed for Williams. Ironically, after leaving Williams and moving to Red Bull, he moved back to the team that used to be Jaguar, completing the circle.

Nico Rosberg. Nico Rosberg, managed by his father Keke Rosberg (who also managed World Champion Mika Hakkinen), was born in Wiesbaden, Germany, and his race license is German. During the test for aptitude taken by all prospective Williams drivers, he scored the highest score ever. In his first race, he scored a point in seventh place and got a fastest lap, not bad for someone in their debut season.

Scott Speed. Scott Speed comes from Manteca, USA, and drove the 2007 season for Torro Rosso, Red Bull's second team. His highest race finish was ninth in 2006. In his second race in 2006 in the Malaysian Grand Prix, he retired after 41 laps due to a clutch malfunction. After the 2006 Australian Grand Prix, he had 25 seconds added to his race time for overtaking under yellow flags. He was also fined for swearing at Coulthard afterwards. He retired from the Spanish Grand Prix with an engine failure. He retired from the British Grand Prix on the opening lap with accident damage after coming together with R. Schumacher. He was also caught up in an accident during his first U.S. Grand Prix. Speed also crashed in practice for the German and French Grand Prix. In Japan, he suffered power steering failure but was classified as he finished more than 90% of the race.

Super Aguri. Super Aguri are part owned by Honda and were running a modified Honda 2006 chassis. However, from the clues you could be mistaken for thinking Toro Rosso because they've been accused of cloning the Red Bull chassis for the 2007 season (Red Bull owned both teams. The name 'Toro Rosso' gave it away as Toro Rosso is Italian for Red Bull). As it was, Davidson's first season had been overshadowed in Britain by the arrival of Lewis Hamilton.
Toyota. Ralf Schumacher, brother of the more famous Michael Schumacher, was lucky to still be racing after a freak accident in the U.S. Grand Prix in 2005 when he was driving for Williams. His concerned brother tried to stop for him but Ferrari prevented him, telling him Ralf was alright. Since then, Schumacher Jr. has been in the midfield, having little of the success of his elder brother.

Heikki Kovalainen. Kovalainen, once when asked on British TV if he felt much pressure being a 'rookie' (ITV's words) filling Alonso's seat, replied, "Not really, no. Everyone is too focused on Raikkonen and his Ferrari back in Finland. Is better for me, I think." Heikki started racing single seaters in 2001 and made it into the big time in 2005 as Renault's test driver, also finishing behind Nico Rosberg in GP2.

Felipe Massa. To the surprise of many fans, it was Massa who was chosen as the number one driver, in essence filling in Schumacher's car. Kimi Raikkonen was put in the second car. If you watched it on TV you would have noticed this, and that Massa's car had the red camera box, symbolising 'first car'.
