North Carolina State
1979. Under head coach Bo Rein, State went 7-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play, taking home the title.
9. His final game with the Wolfpack was at the Mienike Car Care Bowl which the team one 14-0 over USF.
John McCargo. Mario Williams was the surprise first pick of the draft. Manny Lawson was selected as the 22nd pick. John McCargo was picked 26th and went to the Buffalo Bills.
Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. NC State beat Pitt 38-31 in 2008, and then beat Cincinnati 30-19 in 2009. Both games were won at home.
Mike O'Cain. O'Cain had a very impressive resume, including his coaching at Clemson, ECU, UNC, and Virginia Tech.
Carter-Finley Stadium. Keenan is the name of UNC's football stadium, Doak field is the NCSU baseball field, and RBC Center is the basketball stadium.
Boston College. After graduating from the Naval Academy and serving in the U.S. Marines for nine years, his coaching career began at Navy, coaching the offensive line and tight ends. Following this, he went to Virginia but was not head coach. His first head coaching job was at Boston College in 1997, and he took the job at NCSU in 2007.
23. Ted Brown was arguably the most dominant running back in NC State history. He played in college from 1975 to 1978 and was drafted in the first round, 16th pick of the 1979 draft by the Minnesota Vikings.
Philip Rivers. Rivers, an Alabama native, led a very promising team to four straight bowl games. He would be named the MVP in three of them (two Tangerine Bowls and a Gator Bowl). Marcus Stone would be quarterback over the next couple seasons after. Russell Wilson took the job in 2008, and Charlie Whitehurst played quarterback for Clemson at the same time as Rivers.
