    Africa. Aardvarks live in Africa savannas, open grasslands, woodlands, and scrub. They range from southern Egypt to the Cape of Good Hope in the far south of Africa.

The aardvark is related to the anteater....True or False ?
    False & F. They look alike, but are not related. The aardvark has no close living relatives. Scientists placed it in its own family (Orycteropodidae).

Are aardvarks more active during the day or during the night ?
    night. Aardvarks sleep during the day, and are active at night. They are a nocturnal animal. If the nights are cold, sometimes they will come out in the daylight to lie in the sun and get warm.

What is the aardvark's favorite food ?
    ants and termites. Aardvarks are insectivores. They use their claws to dig into ant hills and termite mounds and then stick their long tongue into the nest or mound to get the insects.

Which is true about aardvark teeth ...?
    very soft. They have very soft teeth, without hard enamel, and are a mammal with teeth that have no roots. The teeth grow and are replaced during the aardvark's whole lifetime !

Aardvarks live underground in...?
    burrows. The burrow may be a simple hole in the ground, or can be much fancier, with as many as 20 entrances and exits and several 'rooms'. Aardvarks keep their homes clean. They 'go to the bathroom' in a hole they dig...making the hole some distance from their burrow, they cover up what they do with dirt.

A full grown aardvark is about how long..?
    5 to 6 feet. About two feet of the aardvark's length is its tail !

What sounds does an aardvark make when it 'communicates' ?
    it barks and grunts. To call their babies, they often bark in a high-pitch.

How many babies does a mother aardvark generally have at one time ?
    one. They give birth to only one baby at a time. The baby is born without hair and stays inside the burrow for at least two weeks. It drinks the mother's milk for about four months and then begins to eat insects.
