1987. Cash defeated Ivan Llendl 7-6 6-2 7-5 in the final. Llendl, ranked number one in the world from 1985-88, had lost in two Wimbledon semi's, a fourth round and the final in 1986 before going down to Cash again in 1987. In 1971, John Newcombe was the previous Australian winner.

The Lions won back to back flags by defeating Collingwood, Hewitt become Australia's first Wimbledon winner since Pat Cash (1987) and the Roosters won a NRL season in a year stained by the disqualification of flag favourites Canterbury over salary cap breaches.

Footscray and Fitzroy. Bernie Quinlan played 366 games and was known as Superboot. He won the league goalkicking on two occasions and won the 1981 Brownlow Medal.

1992. They were all a little unique. Subzero was a grey, the AFL cup was leaving Victoria for the first time, and most Aussies were passionately barracking for Pakistan (they defeated England in the final).
