    Honus Wagner. In June of 1914, Honus Wagner, the shortstop for the Pittsburgh Pirates hit his 3,000th career hit, becoming the first of the 20th century and only the second to reach the milestone. The 'Flying Dutchman' ended his 21 year career after the 1917 season with 3,415 hits.

Who threw the first perfect game on the road?
    Charlie Robertson. On April 30, 1922, White Sox pitcher Charlie Robertson threw the first road perfect game as the Chicago beat the Detroit Tigers 2-0. Robertson's perfect game was the 5th thrown in history. Robertson was also the first pitcher to have an overall losing record in the season it was thrown. He ended the '22 season with a 14-15 record.

Who is the first player to have two, three home run games in a season?
    Johnny Mize. Outfielder Johnny Mize had two, three home run games in 1939 with the St. Louis Cardinals. Mize was the National League home run and batting champion in 1939 with 28 homers and a .349 batting average.

Who is the first pitcher to throw no-hitters in consecutive starts?
    Johnny Vander Meer. Johnny Vander Meer of the Cincinnati Reds threw consecutive no- hitters on June 11 and June 15, 1938. On June 11th, Vander Meer beat the Boston Braves 3-0 allowing three walks. On the 15th Vander Meer beat the Brooklyn Dodgers allowing eight walks.

Who was the first Major League player to have 3,000 career hits and 500 career home runs?
    Willie Mays. During the 1965 season Willie Mays hit his 500th career home run. During the 1970 season he got his 3,000th career hit making him the first player to have 500 HRs and 3,000 hits. In 1996 with the Orioles, Eddie Murray became the second to do so hitting his 500th homer. Murray got hit 3,000th career hit the year before.

During which year was the first All-Star game played?
    1933. The first all-star game was played on July, 6 1933, at Comiskey Park in Chicago (home of the White Sox). The American League won the game 4-2. Yankee pitcher Vernon "Lefty" Gomez got the win for the AL.

Who was the first player to hit 50+ HRs and strikeout less than 50 times in a season?
    Johnny Mize. New York Giants first baseman Johnny Mize hit 51 homers while being struck out only 42 times during the 1947 season. It was the first and only time Mize hit 50+ homers in a season. The amazing Johnny Mize who ended his 15 year career in 1953 with a .312 batting average, only struck out 50+ times once in his career.

Who was the first member of the Pittsburgh Pirates to receive the Rookie of the Year Award?
    Jason Bay. The 2004 National League Rookie of the Year honors went to Pirates left fielder Jason Bay, the first ever Pirates player ever to win the award. Jason Bay finished the 2004 season with a .282 avg, 26 home runs, and 82 RBI's.

Back in 1876, who was credited with the first National League home run hit?
    Ross Barnes. In 1876, with the Chicago White Stockings Ross Barnes, the first home run in baseball history was hit. Unbelieveably, he only hit two home runs in his career, which only lasted four years.

Who was the first Major League pitcher to strikeout four batters in one inning.
    Ed Crane. On October 4, 1888, pitching for the New York Giants, Ed Crane struck out four Chicago White Stockings batters in the 5th inning. Crane struck out the first batter and it was dropped resulting in the runner being safe at first. He then struck out the next three for a total of four K's in that inning.
