What French region is Montpellier situated in?

    Languedoc-Roussillon. The Languedoc-Roussillon region is found between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. It is made up of five departments, which include Lozere, Gard, Herault, Aude, and Pyrenees Orientales. Nord-pas-de-Calais and Alsace are composed of two departments and Limousin is composed of three departments.

There is a big building in the very center of Montpellier where operas have traditionally been housed. What is it called?
    Le Corum. Le Corum has also been used as a conference center. It is a modern and multifaceted structure. Its name comes from Latin, which French, and every other romance language, is derived from.

What is the name of the famous statue that stands in the middle of Montpellier's main square, Place de la Comedie?
    Les trois graces. "Les trois graces" translates as "the three graces". It is a very beautiful fountain featuring three nude goddesses. It is located in the middle of the most popular plaza in Montpellier, Place de la Comédie. The plaza is lined with shops and restaurants.

Geographically speaking, where is Montpellier?
    The South of France. Montpellier is just an hour away from the Mediterranean Sea. The temperature is usually around 20 degrees Celsius, but, due to the sun, it often feels hotter. The south and the north of France speak different French dialects. Montpellier is two hours from Aix-en-Provence and Marseilles, and four hours by train from Paris.

What main river flows through Montpellier and into the Mediterranean sea?
    Le Lez. The river Lez is found in the Herault department. It is well-known for its coastline. There is a nice scenic hiking route along the Lez, close to where I stayed when I visited Montpellier. The hiking route followed the river Lez for a good distance. It was in the city of Montpellier, but very close to Castelnau.

In which "department" is Montpellier located?
    Herault. Montpellier is a hilly city near the river Lez. It is found in the Herault department, which, according to Wikipedia, is "one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution of March 4, 1790".

What types of birds are seen all over Montpellier?
    pigeons. Pigeons are plentiful in France. They are very tame, and love searching for food. They will take food right out of one's hand!

What was the original name for Montpellier?
    Monspessulanus. The name "Monspessulanus" is said to have come from Mont Pele, "the naked hill" that Montpellier is situated upon. Marseilles is another town altogether and Montpelhier is the Occitan name for Montpellier.

The Citadel of Montpellier became a school campus in 1958. What is its name?
    Lycee Joffre. Joffre used to be a fortress in the 17th century. In the academic complex, there has normally been a college, a sports building, offices, and two buildings for actual classes. It is where I went to school.

In the Antigone district of Montpellier, there is a well-known statue in the middle of a fountain. Whom does the statue commemorate?
    Poseidon. Montpellier has statues of royalty, wealthy merchants, and notable doctors. The Poseidon statue is an example of the neo-Greek influence commonly found in Antigone's architecture.
