The Blues, who had the worst record in the NHL in 2005-06, were able to spend more money because the sale of the team had been completed.

It had been known for a while that Luongo wanted out of Florida and would likely be traded. Shortly after being traded to the Canucks, he signed a four-year deal.

Minnesota's most important signing, however, was talented forward Marian Gaborik, who the team had been having contract issues with. Jovo signed with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Buffalo Sabres. The players who filed were Maxim Afinogenov, Daniel Briere, Brian Campbell, Tim Connolly, J.P. Dumont, Paul Gaustad, Ales Kotalik, Toni Lydman, Adam Mair, Andrew Peters, Jason Pominville, and Henrik Tallinder. However, only Briere, Dumont, and Mair went through arbitration, as the others signed deals prior to their hearings. Briere and Dumont each received awards that were higher than expected, and the Sabres even walked away from Dumont's award, causing him to become an unrestricted free agent.

After a horrendous season in 2005-06 with the LA Kings, Roenick said he wanted to sign with a Canadian team to focus more on hockey, but he signed with the Phoenix Coyotes, where he played for five seasons from 1996 to 2001.
