    False. President Monroe was the one who stated this. He took the oath of office from the House Chamber because the Washington Capitol was under construction after a fire.

    President James A. Garfield. President-elect James A. Garfield was given the oath of office by Chief Justice Morrison Waite while it was snowing outside.

    False. False! President Jimmy Carter was the one to say this. President Carter served as president from 1977-1981. He had many jobs before becoming president. They included an engineer, peanut farmer, and governor of Georgia.

President Walter Mondale stated at his ceremony, "We need harmony, we have had a chorus of discordant voices."
    False. The answer is false. Walter Mondale never served as president! He did however serve as Jimmy Carter's Vice-President from 1977-1981. President George H.W. Bush is the one who said this. The first President Bush served as president from 1989-1993.

Administered by Chief Justice Roger Taney, President-elect _________ said "Good citizens may well claim the protection of good laws and...but a claim for office is what the people of a republic should never recognize."
    Franklin Pierce. President Franklin Pierce is the only President of the United States ever to choose "to affirm" rather than "to swear" the executive oath of office. He did this based on his religous beliefs.

    True. When running for office, President Calvin Coolidge ran on the slogan "Keep Cool with Coolidge."

One president stated in his second inaugural address, "By our efforts, we have lit a...fire in the minds of men. It warms those who feel its power, it burns those who fight its progress, and one day this untamed fire of freedom will reach the darkest corners of our world."
    George W. Bush. The Bush family is the second family in history to have both a father and son to serve as president. The first family to do this of course was the Adams family.
