With Giants fans already celebrating their team's apparent victory, pinch-hitter Clyde Engle led off the bottom of the 10th with a routine fly to center, which Snodgrass famously dropped. Smoky Joe Wood. Wood had started 3 games earlier in the Series, winning 2 and losing 1. Ruth, by the way, did not join the Red Sox until the 1914 season.

Which Yankee made a miracle catch inches from the ground, to preserve the Yankees win in game 7 of the 1952 World Series?
Billy Martin. At the time, the Dodgers had the bases loaded with 2 outs and the count 3 and 2, and with the runners running on the pitch, all would have scored if not for Martin's heroics. He saw that the pitcher and first baseamn were confused and had lost sight of the ball, and he raced over to make the grab just in time.

Which of the following is not true about Sandy Koufax's 7th game pitching performance, against the Twins in the 1965 Series?
It was his 3rd win of the Series.. What is interesting is the reason Koufax was pitching on two days rest. The first game of the Series fell on the Jewish holiday, Yom Kippur, and Koufax therefore did not start until the 2nd game. He then pitched the 5th game, with Don Drysdale taking the ball in games 1 and 4. However, for the decisive game 7 manager Walter Alston chose his ace Koufax over Drsydale, despite the short rest, and Koufax came up big. Koufax had lost the 2nd game, putting the Dodgers in a 2-0 hole, but the Dodgers rallied at home and took the next 3 games, then won the final game back in Minnesota.

Who pitched the game 7 win for the Cardinals over the Brewers in the 1982 Series?
Joaquin Andujar. Andujar had been injured when he took a Ted Simmons liner on his knee in game 3, but he shook it off and came back in game 7. Inspired by his gutsy performance, the Cardinals came from behind with 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th and won 6-3, giving them their 9th World Championship.

It is well known that a bad call by umpire Don Denkinger at first base, was the turning point in game 6 of the 1985 Series between the Royals and the Caridnals. Who was the Royals' batter who was mistakenly called safe at first by Denkinger in the bottom of the 9th of that fateful game 6?
Jorge Orta. There was quite a battle of wits between Whitey Herzog of the Cardinals and Dick Howser of the Royals leading up to the critical turning point. Howser sent the right-handed Motley to the plate to face the lefty Dayley. Herzog countered with right-hander Todd Worrell to replace Dayley, but Howser then countered with Orta in place of Motley. After the blown call put Orta on, the Cardinals self-destructed, with first baseman Jack Clarke dropping an easy pop-up, and catcher Darrell Porter committing a passed ball. The inning (and game) ended soon afterwards when Iorg drove in the tying and winning runs with a single to right.

Harry ("The Cat") Breechen in 1946. Brecheen was the beneficiary of Enos Slaughter's "mad dash" around the bases to give the Cardinals the lead in the bottom of the 8th of the 1946 game 7 against the Red Sox.

Who was the starting (and winning) pitcher for the Anaheim Angels in their game 7 win over the Giants in the 2002 Series?
John Lackey. Angels' manager Mike Sciosa started the rookie Lackey, the first game 7 started by a rookie since the Pirates' Babe Adams in 1909. Dusty Baker made a questionable choice by starting Livan Hernandez, who was coming off a year in which he was only 12-16 with a .438 ERA. Baker's decision was no doubt influenced by Hernandez' good postseason record, highlighted by his MVP performance in the 1997 7-game victory by the Marlans over the Indians.

In which of the following Series did the home team win every game?
1987, Twins vs. the Cardinals. The indoor stadium in Minnesota proved itself to be a horrible atmosphere for a baseball game as the fans were so loud, the players had to use hand signals to communicate with each other. This may be fine for football, but baseball is a game of beauty and conversation, and it can only be hoped that the Series never again has to be played indoors in such an atmosophere. When the Twins next played in the Series in 1981, the same scenario repeated itsalf, as the home team again won every game in the Series between the Twins and the Braves.

Which of the following game 7's was the most lopsided?
Royals-Cardinals, 1985. After having game 6 stolen from them by umpire Don Denkinger's infamous bad call, the Cardinals completely self-destructed in game 7. The Royals took an 11-0 lead in the 5th inning, and coasted home from there.

In which of the following game 7's was only one run scored?
Twins-Braves, 1991. In one of the most memorable game 7's ever, the teams were scoreless after 9 innings, and the Twins then scored the winnning run in the bottom of the 10th, giving Jack Morris the complete game victory.
