A bloke is a man. In some contexts, the word can be used to refer to sexual acts, but in this context it simply means that one is extremely tired.

For a long time, dairies where the only stores that could be open 7 days a week, and in some places, this is still true. (it's been over ten years since I was in New Zealand, if this has changed, please let me know!)

You take your shoes off before entering the Wharenui, and do not step over other people. There's no eating or drinking (although feeding babies is allowed) inside. The Wharenui is supposed to be a peaceful gathering place, so there is not supposed to be any fighting or arguing inside it. Waikato beer is named for the area is it made in. The Waikato area is on the northern island.

Answer: ketchup or catsup

You won't find catsup in New Zealand. Tomato sauce is thinner, but it is served cold with chips (french fries), burgers, and anything else you'd use catsup for. Once you get used to it, catsup seems thick and overly sweetened.

NZ is pronounced "eN Zed" not "eN Zee".

During my first couple of months in New Zealand, I was invited to a Girl Guides function, and I was told to "bring a plate." I thought I was supposed to bring an empty dinner plate (I assumed it was an environmental way to not waste paper for plates!) Luckily, I was forewarned so I brought a food.
13. When you're invited for high tea, what should you expect?

Answer: a full meal

While an afternoon tea involves tea sandwiches and cakes that are served midafternoon, a high tea is served later and involves a full meal.
14. In Kiwi terminology, what is a rug?

Answer: a lap robe

My grandma (living in NJ, USA) crocheted a blanket for the people I was staying with, and they sent her a thank you note for the beautiful rug. She was very upset until I returned and told her that the blanket was not being walked all over.

Answer: a person from New Zealand

A kiwi is a person from New Zealand.
A kiwi fruit is a piece of fruit, not a vegetable.
A kiwi bird is flightless and so it can't get to the top of the trees.
