Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Chronicles: China" was part of a sub-series of games built upon which franchise that has among its protagonists the famed Ezio Auditere da Firenze?

Answer: Assassin's Creed

"Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China" is one of the games in the "Chronicles" series of the "Assassin's Creed" franchise. The other games in the series include "India" and "Russia". The "China" game is set in the 16th-century Ming Dynasty. Shao Jun, an assassin, returns to China after training with mentor Ezio Auditere da Firenze and embarks on a mission to liberate her people from the Eight Tigers, Templars who rule China through a puppet emperor. Shao Jun assassinates several members of the Eight Tigers before finally eliminating their leader, Zhang Yong.

Phoenix Rising team member purelyqing executed this question to kill time.
2. "Quest of the Dragon" is a beat 'em up videogame that is headlined by which famed martial artist?

Answer: Bruce Lee

"Bruce Lee: Quest of the Dragon" was developed Ronin Entertainment and released in the US and Europe in 2000 for Xbox.

Players get to control a young Bruce Lee as he sets out to rescue his kidnapped father and attempt to retrieve an ancient totem known as the Golden Relic from an organised crime mob called the Black Lotus. The Lotus is led by a woman known as the Dragon Lady and she has a score to settle with him after he'd accidentally killed her father years before. Bruce needs to battle his way through a host of enemies and beating them up provides him with coins that will enable the purchase of some Jeet Kune Do-style moves. Along the way there are some serious bosses to overcome and these include the Dragon Lady and her two sisters, Cleopatra and Rhianna.

The action will take you to a number of places around the globe, but most notable among these are Hong Kong, London and San Francisco.

This question was written by Phoenix Rising's pollucci19 who still believes that Carl Douglas was a liar..."there is no way that everybody was kung fu fighting".
3. Inspired by the kung fu movies of the 1970s, and released in 2020 by Sobaka Studios, how many monkeys make up the title of the video game "___ Monkeys of Shaolin"?

Answer: Nine

"Nine Monkeys of Shaolin" was released on October 16, 2020 and recreates the atmosphere of the 1970s kung fu movies following the Chinese fantasy genre of Wuxia. Wuxia literally means "martial heroes" and started as a form of literature about the adventures of martial artists in ancient China. Over time it became adapted to other forms of entertainment including video games.

The game is set in 1572 China and follows a simple fisherman as he becomes a master of Shaolin. The game tries to remain historically accurate and realistic but also contains elements of magic and fantasy.

This question was entered into the quiz by Phoenix Rising member and Grasshopper tazman6619.
4. Which jaundiced hero takes on the Burns family (and Smithers) in the 1993 platform game "The Simpsons: ___ vs the World"?

Answer: Bart

This is a side-scrolling platform game that was first released in 1991 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It was released again in 1993 to accommodate the Amiga, Atari ST, Game Gear and Sega Master System.

Bart Simpson thinks he's on a good thing when he wins an around the world scavenger hunt on the "Krusty the Clown Show". What he doesn't know is that Mr Burns' trusty assistant, Smithers, has rigged the game so that it can provide his boss with the opportunity to get rid of the Simpson family once and for all. To this end, Mr Burns sends out a series of agents and members of his own family to "take care" of the Simpsons.

The hunt takes Bart to various locations across the globe but the main action takes place in four major locations - China, the North Pole, Egypt and Hollywood. The bosses that he confronts at the end of these stages are the members of the Burns clan. These include Fu Manchu Burns, the Abominable Snow Burns, Ramses Burns and Eric von Burns.

This question was written by Phoenix Rising's pollucci19 who desperately wanted to incorporate a joke here about the creator of "The Simpsons"...but he couldn't stand the Groening.
5. The video game "Formula One 04" uses all of the circuits that made up the 2004 Formula One World Championship, including the one that hosted the Chinese Grand Prix. In which city could this circuit be found?

Answer: Shanghai

"Formula One 04" was first released for the Playstation 2 in July 2004 and was the first official F1 racing game to feature China's Shanghai International Circuit. The circuit was constructed between April 2003 and June 2004 and held the inaugural Chinese Grand Prix (which was won by Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello) on 26 September 2004.

The game was part of an ongoing franchise of F1 racing games developed by Psygnosis (later known as Studio Liverpool) and published by Sony Computer Entertainment during the period from 2003-07 that Sony held the exclusive rights to release official F1 games. It gave players a chance to (virtually) experience driving all 18 tracks that held F1 grands prix in 2004, as well as the chance to drive all the cars and play as any of the original line up of drivers who took part in the season. It also introduced a 'career mode' that allowed players to simulate an F1 driver's career - starting off in a slow car at the back of the grid and earning the right to move up to the bigger teams that provide a genuine chance for a driver to become world champion.

This question was raced into the quiz by Phoenix Rising's resident F1 fan, F1f1ona81.
6. The third game of which series that features Agent 47 takes the protagonist to Chongqing, China?

Answer: Hitman

Agent 47 was the 47th clone created by Dr. Ort-Meyer who was top agent for the International Contract Agency; he has 47 chromosomes. In "End of an Era", the fourth mission in "Hitman III", Agent 47 visits the megacity Chongqing. He assumes the persona of Mr. Pritchard, an ICA board member and heads to meet the real Mr Pritchard, whom he murders. After eliminating some other targets, and encountering a girl looking for her friend, he hacks the Data Core, the crux of his mission.

This question was snuck into the quiz by another agent, Phoenix Rising's VegemiteKid.
7. In "Indiana Jones & the Emperor's Tomb" our intrepid archaeologist is on a mission to find which cultured object known as the "Heart of the Dragon"?

Answer: Black pearl

Indiana Jones is sought out by a Chinese official, Marshall Kai Ti Chan, to track down a black pearl, known as the "Heart of the Dragon", that has been buried with the body of China's first Emperor, Qin Shi Huangdi. It is a complicated quest for Indy that takes him to Prague, Istanbul and British Hong Kong, among other places. He needs to track down three mirrors that will help to guide him through the tomb and lead him, eventually, to the Huangdi's crypt. But he has enemies that are chasing the same artifact. The main one is Albrecht Von Beck, a Nazi agent... yes, the Nazi's are back and in great numbers, and he also finds out that Marshall Kai is not who he says he is.

The game is set in 1935 and it acts as a prequel to the 1984 film, "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom". The game was released in 2003 by LucasArts for the Xbox, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2 and OS X platforms.

This question was readily accepted by Phoenix Rising's pollucci19 because he thought there'd be rum...till he discovered it was the wrong Black Pearl.
8. "James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire" is a 2001 shooter video game that was originally based on which 1999 James Bond film?

Answer: The World is Not Enough

Although "James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire" was developed based on the movie "The World is Not Enough", its release was delayed and it transitioned into a stand alone story line unrelated to the movie. In the game James Bond must stop a plot to replace world leaders with clones. The story starts out with CIA agent Zoe Nightshade being a mole in the Hong Kong-based botanical research firm Identicon Corporation but she is discovered. Bond attempts to rescue her.

Originally released in November 2001, with other versions following in March 2002, the game was not critically well-received. But by 2006 it had sold 1.5 million copies in the US making it the 30th highest selling game between 2000 and 2006.

This question was entered into the quiz by Phoenix Rising member tazman6619 who sometimes wishes he had a license to kill.
9. Based on venues used for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which prickly protagonist completes the title of the 2007 video game "Mario & ___ at the Olympic Games"?

Answer: Sonic

"Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games" was the first game to bring together two of the most iconic characters in video game history - Mario, Nintendo's moustachioed plumber, and Sonic, Sega's speedy hedgehog. The collaboration also reflected the Olympic aims of sportsmanship and friendly competition by bringing together not just the rival characters but also a range of their sidekicks and antagonists as playable characters. The game was released for both the Nintendo Wii and DS consoles ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and featured stylised versions of some of its venues and sports. The Wii version in particular gave players a bit of a workout, with the different sports requiring a range of movements of both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers - some of which were quite vigorous! Players could choose from 24 events in total, covering both real sports such as archery, athletics, cycling, fencing, gymnastics, rowing, shooting, swimming and table tennis and "dream" sports where the characters got to use a range of special items that you wouldn't find in the real-life Olympic versions (with the options differing slightly between the Wii and DS versions).

Various sequels to the game have also been released. The next in the series took Mario and Sonic to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and subsequent titles also included games related to London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

Phoenix Rising's Fifiona81 took this question, curled it up into a spiky ball and rolled it into its spot in the quiz at high speed.
10. "Legendary Warriors", a 2008 video game, features a kung-fu master named Po. What sort of creature is he?

Answer: Panda

The "Kung Fu Panda" video game was originally released to North American, European, and Australasian markets alongside the movie of the same name (on which it is loosely based) in June 2008. Its sequel, "Kung Fu Panda: Legendary Warriors", was released later the same year for Nintendo DS and Wii. The "Kung Fu Panda" franchise follows the story of a bumbling panda named Po who becomes the Dragon Master. The Legendary Warrior exists in his imagination as the most idealized version of himself, who flawlessly dispatches enemies and travels the land performing good deeds. Some of the action is set in the Valley of Peace, a fictional landscape inspired by China's Li River Valley and Yellow Mountain regions.
