Question 1 of 10
1. Mega Pidgeot is surprisingly one of the game's best Flying type Mega Evolutions. However, to tap into its true power either requires a longtime player using a Pidgeot caught from very, very long ago, or it requires the use of an Elite Fast TM. Which of the following is one of Mega Pidgeot's Legacy Fast moves? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Rayquaza began to fall behind the Flying type meta, but it would eventually gain access to Dragon Ascent and take the Flying type - and "Pokemon GO" in general - throne with force. However, as this move is unfathomably, unthinkably powerful, it stands to reason that the means of acquiring it are equally special. What item must the player have to get Dragon Ascent on their Rayquaza? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Staraptor came to the game in a relatively poor state, as it simply didn't get the moves to succeed, even though it had the stats to put in work. Issues with the former were corrected in 2022, when Staraptor gained access to a crucial new move. What move? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Yveltal, the mascot of "Pokemon Y", came to this game without too much of a niche. However, its signature move in Oblivion Wing came to the rescue and made it much, much more powerful. How much base power does the two-barred Oblivion Wing boast? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. In 2018, the legendary bird trio of Kanto came to raids and gained new moves upon doing so. Moltres was the recipient of a highly appreciated Flying type Charged move. What move? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Looking to use a Ho-Oh as a Flying attacker? Unfortunately for you, the odds of being able to use a Ho-Oh with both a Flying Fast move and a Flying Charged move are shockingly slim. When catching a Ho-Oh, what are the odds it will be able to do this? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Salamence are two Mega evolutions, who are Flying types, whose presence in the mainline games largely tapped into their Flying typing, and who happen to have great stats. Between the two of them, how many Flying type moves do they learn? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Lugia had been a running meme as far as raid performance goes. Then, it got Aeroblast which wasn't quite enough to help fully, but was a great start. Then, it got Aeroblast+ and even the mighty Aeroblast++ which took it to a whole new level. How does the player acquire Aeroblast++? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Sigilyph is either a rarely seen Pokemon, never seen Pokemon, or it's quite common depending on what part of the world you live in. Where can Sigilyph exclusively be found in the real world? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. The Flying typing is boosted under a fairly common type of real-world weather. What weather boosts Flying type moves? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Gust

Both Gust and Wing Attack are Legacy Fast moves, and both are much better than Air Slash, Mega Pidgeot's readily available move. Gust technically offers more DPS, but Wing Attack allows Mega Pidgeot to be more flexible and have an easier time dodging attacks, while also still outputting good DPS. Either one is viable, and the better one is dependent on the player's playstyle.

Answer: Meteorite

Dragon Ascent is the one and only move that cannot be accessed via TM, even an Elite TM. The Meteorite is given to lucky players who attend the annual Pokemon GO fest, held in the summer each year. Sadly, this event is in-person, meaning players who live far away will find themselves at a loss in terms of acquiring a Meteorite.
3. Staraptor came to the game in a relatively poor state, as it simply didn't get the moves to succeed, even though it had the stats to put in work. Issues with the former were corrected in 2022, when Staraptor gained access to a crucial new move. What move?

Answer: Fly

Fly is a two-barred move that is quite powerful and fairly fast, letting Staraptor finally put in work. Shadow Staraptor with Fly in particular is quite ridiculous, outputting top 5 Flying DPS.

Up until 2022, Staraptor had to make use of Brave Bird. Brave Bird is not necessarily a horrible move, but its one-barred nature and relatively middling power did not synergize well with Staraptor.
4. Yveltal, the mascot of "Pokemon Y", came to this game without too much of a niche. However, its signature move in Oblivion Wing came to the rescue and made it much, much more powerful. How much base power does the two-barred Oblivion Wing boast?

Answer: 85

Oblivion Wing is strong and fast for a Charged move. Up until Yveltal gained it, it had to make-do with the underwhelming Hurricane for Flying type offense, which was simply insufficient.
5. In 2018, the legendary bird trio of Kanto came to raids and gained new moves upon doing so. Moltres was the recipient of a highly appreciated Flying type Charged move. What move?

Answer: Sky Attack

Sky Attack is a two barred Charged move with 85 base power. Mixed with Wing Attack for a Fast move, Moltres was ready to put in work. At the time of acquisition, Moltres became the best Flying type in the game- it would eventually be usurped by a handful of contenders, but the set will never, ever be less than at least being incredibly good.
6. Looking to use a Ho-Oh as a Flying attacker? Unfortunately for you, the odds of being able to use a Ho-Oh with both a Flying Fast move and a Flying Charged move are shockingly slim. When catching a Ho-Oh, what are the odds it will be able to do this?

Answer: 1 in 15

Ho-Oh can learn four Fast moves- Extrasensory, Steel Wing, Incinerate and Hidden Power. Of those four, Hidden Power can be Hidden Power Flying, but it could also be Hidden Power of any other type besides Fairy and Normal. There are a total of fifteen Hidden Power typings you could get, and it's impossible to change the Hidden Power typing once Ho-Oh is acquired, even with a TM. The player can TM off Hidden Power, and then back onto it, but this is futile as the Hidden Power typing will remain the same every time. If Ho-Oh gets a Hidden Power typing that is not Flying, it will be unable to properly be used as a Flying attacker.

In "Pokemon GO,' unlike the mainline games, the Hidden Power typing is not based off of the Pokemon's IVs. It is completely randomized. Sadly, this means the player is entirely reliant on luck, and they themselves will be unable to do anything to influence what typing Ho-Oh's Hidden Power becomes.
7. Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Salamence are two Mega evolutions, who are Flying types, whose presence in the mainline games largely tapped into their Flying typing, and who happen to have great stats. Between the two of them, how many Flying type moves do they learn?

Answer: Zero

Mega Salamence's ability in the mainline games specifically turns non-Flying moves into Flying moves. Its backstory and general lore also touch on it being a Pokemon who was born desperately wanting to grow wings and fly. Mega Aerodactyl's ability strengthens its Flying type attacks, and it is unique for being one of very few fossil Pokemon to be part Flying type.

In spite of this, neither of them learns so much as a single Flying type move, preventing them from being usable Flying attackers in this game.

Answer: Purify Apex Lugia

Apex Lugia is the only form of Lugia with access to Aeroblast+; even with an Elite TM, it cannot be accessed on any other type of Lugia. Purifying Apex Lugia will turn Aeroblast+ into Aeroblast++. However, funnily enough, this is actually a terrible idea.

When being purified, Apex Lugia loses the Shadow bonus to its attacks. This 25% dropoff in DPS is more than the DPS gained going from Aeroblast+ to Aeroblast++, making Aeroblast+ out to be funnily more viable than Aeroblast++.
9. Sigilyph is either a rarely seen Pokemon, never seen Pokemon, or it's quite common depending on what part of the world you live in. Where can Sigilyph exclusively be found in the real world?

Answer: Europe

Sigilyph are incredibly common in Greece specifically, but they can be found anywhere in Europe. They have never been available outside of Europe.
10. The Flying typing is boosted under a fairly common type of real-world weather. What weather boosts Flying type moves?

Answer: Windy

Windy will also boost the power of Psychic moves and Dragon moves. Psychics compete pretty closely with Flying for being able to defeat Fighting types, but they could also work in conjunction pretty flawlessly if the player can't quite fill a full team of Flying or Psychic types just yet.
