"The Fiery Cross" Part III Trivia Quiz

Part III of "The Fiery Cross" - "Alarms and Excursions". This was a short, rather uneventful, part of "The Fiery Cross", so I've only made five questions out of it.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of Josiah Beardsley's brother?

Answer: Keziah

At the age of two or three, Josiah and Keziah had travelled with their families from an unknown country (they were too young to remember) but the rest of their family died on the voyage. Being unable to pay for their passage, they were indentured for thirty years and bought by Mr. Beardsley.
2. How long had Mrs. Beardsley been married to her husband?

Answer: Two years, three months, and five days

This made Claire remember the marks she had seen on the Beardsley's doorpost, and wondered if Franny had been keeping count from the very beginning of her marriage.
3. Why had Josiah run away from home?

Answer: He was badly treated by the Beardsleys

Although being marked a thief was undoubtedly the straw the broke the camel's back, it was an act of desperation due to the fact that he and Keziah weren't fed enough.
Jamie: "...ask yourself, Sassenach: would ye leave a decent home to go and live in the woods alone, to make your bed in cold leaves and eat grubs and crickets 'til ye learned to hunt meat?"
4. Who killed Mr. Beardsley?

Answer: Jamie Fraser

Mr. Beardsley had suffered an apoplexy (a stroke) that left him paralyzed, while drunk and trying to kill his wife. Franny had been torturing him slowly to death for about a month before the arrival of the Frasers. Knowing that he would be paralyzed his whole life, and that his gangrenous foot would have to be amputated, Mr. Beardsley signed that he would like Jamie to take his life, and it was done.
5. Who was the cause of the fuss at Brownsville?

Answer: Isaiah Morton

He had seduced the young Alicia Brown and gotten her with child, but already being married, he was unable to remedy the situation.
