Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the intro credits we saw a definition for the term "Jaeger" as well as the language the term originated from. What was that language?

Answer: German

At the beginning of the film the terms "Jaeger" and "Kaiju" appeared with both their countries of origin and definitions. The term "Jaeger" means hunter in the German language, and it was the term given to the massive, man-made robots that were used as the weapons to combat the impending alien invasion.
2. What was the name of the Jaeger piloted by the Becket brothers?

Answer: Gipsy Danger

The name was mentioned several times in the movie. After the mission in which one of the brothers was killed, it was believed to be decommissioned until 5 years later when Stacker Pentecost re-acquired it under the Mark III restoration program and sought out the surviving Becket brother to pilot it with a new co-pilot.
3. What was the codename given to the Kaiju that ended up killing Yancy Becket (Raleigh's brother) near the beginning of the film?

Answer: Knifehead

The name was identified when the Becket brothers were woken by the alarm, which stated the name of the Kaiju. The name was also visible on the video screen in their room. Knifehead killed Yancy by ripping a piece of the Jaeger's head away with its arm. Yancy was caught in the grip.
4. Hannibal Chau told Dr. Newton Geiszler he took his first name from his favourite historical character and his last name from his second favourite Szechuan restaurant in what part of New York City?

Answer: Brooklyn

Hannibal Chau was a black market dealer of Kaiju remains. Newton met with him because he needed to get his hands on the brain of a Kaiju for an experiment that ultimately proved to be significant towards the end of the movie. When asked if Hannibal was the man he was looking for, Hannibal explained the origins of his name.
5. What was the name of the special three-arm combat technique used by the Chinese-made Jaegar called Crimson Typhoon?

Answer: Thundercloud

Crimson Typhoon was the only Jaeger to have three arms. It was piloted by the Wei Tang triplets. The formation involved having round discs with several blades on each hand spinning, while moving the arms in a sweeping motion at the attacking Kaiju.
6. What did Stacker Pentecost give to Mako Mori when he told her she was selected as Raleigh Becket's co-pilot?

Answer: A child sized shoe wrapped in a cloth

Later in the movie, when the relationship between Stacker and Mako was revealed, you saw her as a child lost in a destroyed city holding her shoe in hand calling for her family when a Kaiju spotted her and chased her. Stacker, then a Jaeger pilot himself, killed the Kaiju and took Mako in as his daughter. That shoe became a symbol of their relationship and Mako's growing quest for revenge against Kaijus for the loss of her family.
7. What weapon did Gipsy Danger use to kill the Kaiju that was flying and holding Gispy Danger with its talons?

Answer: Chain sword

Before deploying the weapon Raleigh said they had to bail because they were running out of oxygen and they had run out of clips for the plasma cannon, suggesting Raleigh didn't know about the addition of the sword as part of the Mark III restoration project. Mako said there was one weapon left to use, and in her native language said "for my family" and killed the Kaiju with the sword.

This satisfied her quest for vengeance.
8. Near the beginning of the film it was announced that the entire Jaeger program was getting shut down in favour of which alternative method of defence against the Kaijus?

Answer: Coastal walls

The concept was that, once completed, the walls would be unbreachable and the Kaijus would essentially be locked out. However a newscast, shown early in the film, showed a Kaiju breaking through the coastal wall in Sydney, Australia in less then one hour. The newscast also said the wall was deemed unbreachable by its builders.
9. What was the true reason why Stacker Pentecost sought out Raleigh Becket to join the mission he wanted to carry out?

Answer: Raleigh was the only other pilot who had operated a Jaegar solo.

The truth behind Stacker wanting Raleigh was revealed after the numerous times that Stacker seemed to have random nosebleeds throughout the movie. He later explained to Raleigh that in the early days of piloting Jaegars no one thought of the radiation poisoning issue and that if he piloted for one more mission he would likely die.

He then told Raleigh the truth behind his selection for the mission.
10. In which country was the Shatterdome located?

Answer: Hong Kong

At the beginning of the film the Jaeger base was located in Alaska, but upon orders that the program was being shut down in favour of the coastal wall the base was ordered to be moved to the Shatterdome which was located in Hong Kong.
11. What was unique about Gipsy Danger that allowed it to operate after an EMP burst emitted by a Kaiju shut down the other Jaegers?

Answer: Its systems were analog, not digital.

After the Kaijus destroyed Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha, they used an EMP burst to shut down Striker Eureka. Back at the Shatterdome they were helpless to restart Striker Eureka because "all the Jaegers' systems are digital". Raleigh Becket intervened said that his Jaeger, Gipsy Danger, was analong-nuclear". He and Mako were then sent to save Striker Eureka.
12. Which of the Jeagers did Stacker Pentecost refer to as an "brutal war machine"?

Answer: Cherno Alpha

During Raleigh's orientation at the shatterdome, Stacker pointed to the Russian made Cherno Alpha and said it was the oldest Jaeger they had, being a Mark I (all other Jaegers they had are Mark III or higher), but to not let that fool him as it was a brutal war machine. It was piloted by a pair of Russians.
13. What was the end of this sentence that was spoken by Newton when he was hiding in the Hong Kong public refuge due to the Kaiju attack? "This isn't a refuge. This is a ________________!"

Answer: buffet line

Newton was in the room with dozens of other people when he stated this right before he came to the realization that the Kaiju was specifically going after him due to his previous attempt at accessing the mind of another Kaiju.
14. Of the four main Jaegers in the movie, which was the first Jaeger to get defeated?

Answer: Gipsy Danger

Gipsy Danger was defeated in the incident in which Yancy Beckett also lost his life. The Jaeger was refurbished and re-used later on in the movie.
15. During the humorous scene shown after the main credits but before the rolling credits, Hannibal Chau was seen sticking his head out of a dead Kaiju and asking for what?

Answer: His shoe

Earlier in the movie Hannibal Chau was swallowed whole by a baby Kaiju just before it died. The camera then showed one of Hannibal's shoes on the ground. It was then picked up by Newton who was there and witnessed the event. At the end of the movie the scene showed Hannibal cutting himself out of the belly of the dead Kaiju with a knife, sticking his head through the opening (covered in blue Kaiju blood) then shouting for the location of his shoe.
