Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Abishag. (1 Kings 1:1-4)

Answer: Cared for David

1 Kings 1:3 states that, when David was advanced in years, a search was conducted throughout Israel for a young virgin to take care of him and Abishag, a Shunammite, was found in that search. Scripture reports Abishag was "very beautiful" and although she took care of the king, they did not have sexual relations.

When Adonijah requested permission to marry Abishag, King Solomon became extremely angry and ordered his execution, as per 1 Kings 2:22-25.
2. Find the match for Elisha. (2 Kings 6:8-23)

Answer: Blinded Aramean army

According to Scripture, Elisha prayed to the LORD that an Aramean army would be blinded, enabling them to be led into Samaria where they could be captured. Elisha's prayers were answered and the Arameans were blinded, as per 2 Kings 6:8-23. Just prior to this, Elisha's servant had become terrified after seeing the enemy surrounding them. So Elisha prayed that his eyes would be opened and he would see a mountain full of horses and chariots of fire protecting them.

In other words, you could say it's an open-and-shut case of eyes being opened and closed in Scripture.

The spectacular miracles happened just after the so-called ho-hum miracle (at least in the scale of things) of Elisha making an axhead float in the Jordan River. Elisha was the son of Shaphat and he was the successor to Elijah.
3. Find the match for Issachar. (Genesis 35:23)

Answer: Son of Leah

Issachar was the fifth son of Jacob and Leah and the founder of one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. The territory in Canaan distributed to the tribe founded by Issachar was also called Issachar. The other sons of Jacob and Leah were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah and Zebulun, as per Genesis 35:23.

In the 49th chapter of Genesis, Jacob blesses his various sons, and has this to say about Issachar, as per the NIV Bible: "Issachar is a rawboned donkey lying down among the sheep pens. When he sees how good is his resting place and how pleasant is his land, he will bend his shoulder to the burden and submit to forced labor."
4. Find the match for Irijah. (Jeremiah 37:14)

Answer: Arrested Jeremiah

According to Jeremiah 37:13, Irijah was a captain of the guard under King Zedekiah of Judah. The same verse states that Irijah was a son of Shelemiah and a grandson of Hananiah. He had Jeremiah arrested in the belief the prophet was deserting to the Babylonians.

Jeremiah 37:15-16, in the NIV Bible, states: "They were angry with Jeremiah and had him beaten and imprisoned in the house of Jonathan the secretary, which they had made into a prison. Jeremiah was put into a vaulted cell in a dungeon, where he remained a long time."
5. Find the match for Ruth. (Ruth 4:13)

Answer: Boaz

According to Scripture, Ruth was originally married to Mahlon, the son of Naomi and Elimelek. After her husband died, Ruth ended up marrying Boaz. Their marriage resulted in the birth of Obed. The book of Ruth is largely a report about the romance between Ruth and Boaz.
6. Find the match for Moses. (Exodus 4:6-7)

Answer: Leprosy on hand

Moses was afflicted with leprosy on his hand for an ever so brief period of time. According to Exodus 4:6-7, the LORD instructed Moses to put his leprous hand into his bosom and withdraw it and when he did, the leprosy was gone.

Exodus 4:6-7, in the NKJV, states: "Furthermore the LORD said to him [Moses], 'Now put your hand in your bosom.' And he put his hand in his bosom, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, like snow. And He said, 'Put your hand in your bosom again.' So he put his hand in his bosom again, and drew it out of his bosom, and behold, it was restored like his other flesh."

Exodus 4 tells of the LORD instructing a reluctant Moses to go to Egypt and appeal to the Pharaoh and seek the release of the Israelites from their bondage. According to Scripture, Moses was reluctant to embark on the assignment for fear the Israelites in Egypt would not believe that he had been instructed by the LORD to seek their liberation. Moses was in Midian at the time, the land he fled to after he killed an unnamed Egyptian, as per Exodus 2:1-11.
7. Find the match for Gehazi. (2 Kings 5:20-27)

Answer: Greed and leprosy

According to Scripture, Gehazi's greed resulted in him being struck with leprosy. It's a bit of a long story, but after Naaman was cured of leprosy he offered Elisha a reward which the prophet declined. Scripture reports Gehazi caught up with Naaman after his departure and asked to receive a talent of silver and two sets of clothing. Naaman promptly responded to Gehazi's request, giving him two talents of silver and two sets of clothing. Later, Gehazi would deny his actions to Elisha and after he left the prophet's presence, Scripture reports he was "leprous, as white as snow." The account of Gehazi being afflicted with leprosy is found in 2 Kings 5:20-27.
8. Find the match for Solomon. (1 Kings 10:18)

Answer: Ivory, gold throne

According to 1 Kings 10:18, Solomon made "a great throne covered with ivory and overlaid with fine gold."

It seems gold was extremely common in Solomon's days. 1 Kings 10:21-22, in the NKJV Bible, states: "All King Solomon's drinking vessels were gold, and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Not one was silver, for this was accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon. For the king had merchant ships at sea with the fleet of Hiram. Once every three years the merchant ships came bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and monkeys."
9. Find the match for Othniel. (Judges 3:9-10)

Answer: First judge

Othniel was the first judge of Israel. He was the younger brother of Caleb and his father was Kenaz. His wife was Achsah. Judges 3:10-11, in the NKJV Bible, states: "The Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel. He went out to war, and the LORD delivered Cushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed over Cushan-Rishathaim. So the land had rest for forty years.

Then Othniel the son of Kenaz died."
10. Find the match for Elijah. (1 Kings 17:17-24)

Answer: Revived dead boy

The miraculous raising of a widow's son from the dead by Elijah is recorded in 1 Kings 17:17-24. Verses 21-22, in the NKJV Bible, states: "And he [Elijah] stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to the LORD and said, 'O LORD my God, I pray, let this child's soul come back to him'. Then the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived."

The woman's name is not given in Scripture. She is simply described as the widow of Zarephath in the region of Sidon. Previous to bringing the boy back to life, Scripture states Elijah had basically saved the widow and her son from starvation by miraculously producing oil and flour for them, as per 1 Kings 17:7-16.
