Answer: Tampa Bay

The Devil Rays finished a dismal 55-106 in the American East, 48 games behind Division winner New York Yankees. The Tigers also finished with the same record in the American League Central, but only 39 games back behind Division winner Minnesota. The other teams listed, won over 100 games in the season.
2. Which of the following players had the nickname of 'Moose'?

Answer: Bill Skowron

Bill 'Moose' Skowron played most of his 14 seasons of baseball at first base. He began career in 1954 with the Yankees. In his 10th season, he found himself wearing a Los Angeles Dodger uniform in 1963. He enjoyed the Dodgers' profits from the season by winning the World Series, in a 4 games to 0 blanking of his former teammates, New York Yankees. He retired in 1967.
3. Which of the following players won two Rookie of the Year Awards in the Major Leagues?

Answer: None listed

It is not possible to win two Rookie of the Year awards, as it is presented only in a player's rookie season. All others listed won the ROY. Eric Karros won it in 1992 with the Dodgers, Salmon in 1993 as an Angel, and Derek Jeter won the Roy in 1996 wearing the Pinstripes.

Answer: Satchel Paige

Paige had a lifetime Major League record of 28-31. He pitched in the big leagues for only 6 seasons. He came to the Majors after pitching in the Negro League, unofficially compiling over 2,000 career wins. He pitched for the Indians and St.Louis Browns, and retired in 1953.

He then came out of retirement in 1965, and pitched 1 game for the Kansas City Athletics. He went 3 innings, gave up one hit, and struck out one.

The Babe didn't hit any in his first season, which he appeared in only 5 games. This happened in 1914 with the Boston Red Sox. He hit 4 home runs the following season with Boston. His career high, was when he hit 29 with the Red Sox in 1919, until the infamous move to the Yankees the following season, which saw him hit 54 round-baggers. The following season in 1921 he hit 59.
6. Before the franchise moving to Minnesota and becoming the Minnesota Twins, what was the team called?

Answer: Washington Senators

The Washington Senators existed from 1901-1960, before moving to Minnesota. The Senators won only 1 World Series in 1924, during their 3 appearances to the big top. Managers Cookie Lavagetto and Sam Mele helped make the transition to the Twins organization.

In 1961, the Twins were rostered by the greats of Harmon Killebrew, Earl Battey, and Zoilo Versalles. The Twins finished 7th in the American League in their first season with a 70-90 record.
7. Which of the following won the Cy Young and MVP Awards in the same season?

Answer: Roger Clemens

Clemens had a tremendous season (one of many) in 1986, while only being in his 3rd year of baseball. This Red Sox pitcher had a record of 24-4 along with 238 strikeouts. He played 13 seasons with Boston, before being moving to Blue Jay country in 1997, then moving to the Pinstripes in 1999.

In his award winning year of 1986, he beat out Don Mattingly for the MVP, and was the only pitcher to receive first place votes for the Cy with 28. The others listed were not pitchers.
8. What team did Wade Boggs play with most in the Major Leagues?

Answer: Boston Red Sox

Boggs played 11 of his 18 career seasons with Boston from 1982-1992. In 1983 he wore a Yankee uniform, and continue in the Pinstripes for another 5 seasons. In 1998 he came to the Tampa Bay club, then retired in 1999. Amongst Wade's accomplishments was being a twelve-time All-Star, 2 Gold Gloves, 5 batting crowns, 6 on-base percentage crowns, 1 hits crown, 2 run scoring crowns, and retired with a .328 career batting average.
9. Which of the following players had the nickname of 'Zeke'?

Answer: George Zackert

All players listed were indeed Major Leaguers, but only George Zackert had the nickname of Zeke. He played only two seasons in the Major Leagues and has never won a game. In 1911, he pitched in only 7 innings, and allowed 17 hits with 9 earned runs. His final season was the following year.
10. How many Seattle Mariners hit more than 30 home runs in the 2002 season?

Answer: 0

No Mariner hit more than 30 in 2002. The closest was centerfielder Mike Cameron who hit 25. The team only had 3 players hit more than 20 all season, in the likes of John Olerud, Bret Boone, and Cameron.
