Answer: Jason Giambi

Jason, in his first season with the Yankees after being traded from Oakland, hit 41 big ones in 2002 to lead the team. This was his 2nd highest home run total, backing up 43 in 2000 with the Athletics. The only other 2002 Yankee listed, was Juan Rivera who hit 1 home run.
2. Who won the National League MVP Award in 2002?

Answer: Barry Bonds

Bonds won his 5th season MVP Award in 2002. His first was in 1990, followed by two consecutive MVPs in 1992 and 1993, and another two in a row in 2001 and 2002. His 2002 numbers for the Giants were batting .370, along with 46 home runs. He was the only player to receive any 1st place votes, and had 32 of them. The other players listed, did not play in 2002.
3. 2002 Los Angeles Dodger Shawn Green, came from what Major League team?

Answer: Toronto

Green played from 1993-1999 in a Blue Jay uniform. In 2000 he became a Dodger.
4. The Seattle Pilots became what team in 1970?

Answer: Milwaukee Brewers

The Pilots lasted only one season in 1969. Their dismal 64-98 season, earned them a ticket out of town, and they ended up in Milwaukee in 1970. The Brewers played 9 seasons before they would have a record over .500. In 1978, they finished with a record of 93-69, good enough for a 3rd place finish.
5. Which slugger was the first to score 170 runs in a single season, during the 20th centruy?

Answer: Babe Ruth

The Babe scored 177 runs in 1921. This was Ruth's 2nd season with the Yankees, after being sold from Boston. In 1921, the Babe popped for 59 home runs, and 204 hits in the season.
6. What player had the nickname "Rajah"?

'Rajah' did it both as a player and a manager in the Big Leagues. He spent most of his 23 season career with the Cardinals as a player, and most of his 14 seasons with the Cardinals as a manager.
7. What National League team finished with the best record in 2002?

Answer: Atlanta Braves

Although the Giants went to the World Series, the Braves outdid them with a record of 101-59, the only National League team to reach the 100 mark. The Giants, who defeated the Braves in the Division Series, finished the season with a 95-66 record. The Angels and Tigers were in the American League.
8. How many 20-game winners did the Yankees have in the 2002 season?

Answer: 0

9. Who was the first pitcher to allow 50 home runs in a season?

Answer: Bert Blyleven

The only pitcher listed, Blyleven was the only pitcher in the 20th century to allow 50 round-baggers against him. Blyleven spent 22 seasons in the Majors, and retired in 1992.

Answer: Pack Robert Gibson

Bob Gibson, born in 1935, made his Major League debut in 1959 with the Cardinals. He spent 17 seasons with Cardinals before retiring in 1975. In 1968, his MVP season, Bob was 22-9, with 268 strikeouts, and 13 shutouts. He also won the Cy Young Award that season, and duplicated that in 1970.
