Answer: Hank Aaron

The Babe was the first to reach the 700 plateau, retiring with 714. Aaron broke this almost impossible record in 1973 with the Atlanta Braves, and retiring with 755 in 1976. Mays retired with 660 in 1973.
2. Which of the following greats never played in a World Series?

Answer: Ernie Banks

The great 'Mr.Cub' never made it. Ernie played his entire career with the Chicago Cubs from 1953-1971. The last Cubs' World Series appearance in the 20th century, was in 1945. Gehrig had appeared in 7 World Series (Yankees), Maris in 7 (5 Yankees/2 Cardinals), and Koufax in 4 with the Dodgers.
3. 2002 Hall of Fame inductee Ozzie Smith, began his career with what team?

Ozzie never played with the other teams. After spending 4 seasons with the Padres, in 1982 Smith went to St.Louis in a multi-trade deal. Smith was a 13-time Gold Glove winner at shortstop, and a 16-time All-Star. He retired in 1996.

The original name of the franchise was the Baltimore Orioles in 1901 and 1902. They became the Highlanders from 1903-1912. In 1913, the rest became history. After the acquistion of Babe Ruth in 1920, the Yankees appeared in their first of many World Series in 1921.

He retired with an average of .366.

The others did not play for the Dodgers in 2002. Green in his 3rd season with the Dodgers, and 10th in the Majors, hit 42 after hitting 49 for the Dodger-Blue in 2001. Mondesi was released by the Dodgers to make way for Green, and McGriff joined the Dodgers in 2003, after the Dodgers let Eric Karros go.

This Cuban born player, Minoso began his career as a 26 year old rookie in 1949 with the Cleveland Indians. He retired in 1964 as a White Sox, then came back in 1976, again in Chicago. In 1980 at the age of 57, he was rostered by the White Sox again, and played in 2 games. He played for a total of 17 seasons.
10. What 19th century player had the nickname of 'Pud'?

Answer: James Galvin

The others listed, played more than 50 years later. James Francis 'Pud' Galvin, played 15 seasons prior to the 20th century. He played for St.Louis, Buffalo, and Pittsburgh, and retired in 1892. He led the league in strikeouts 4 times, and his 364 career wins still ranked 5th in the 20th century.
