1. The Oakland Athletics won 103 games in the 2002 season. What pitcher led the staff with wins?

Answer: Barry Zito

Zito was the only Athletic listed in 2002. Barry went 23-15 with 182 strikeouts. His efforts won him the American League Cy Young Award. This was his 3rd season in the Major Leagues.
2. In what year did the Manager of the Year Award begin?

Answer: 1983

The first recepients of the award in 1983, were Tommy Lasorda of the National League Los Angeles Dodgers, and Tony LaRussa of the American League Chicago White Sox. Both teams and managers lost in the Championship Series, and never made it to the World Series that season.
3. In what season did Major League baseball first see the Kansas City Royals?

Answer: 1969

The Royals began their franchise in 1969, with manager Joe Gordon at the helm. They could only muster 69 wins for a 4th place finish in the AL Western Division. They won their first World Series in 1985, by defeating the St.Louis Cardinals 4 games to 3.

Answer: Forrest Burgess

Roseboro was the only other catcher listed. Forrest Harrill 'Smoky' Burgess, played in the Majors from 1949-1967. Answer: Bob Gibson

The others listed, had over 100 career wins more than Bob. Gibson retired with 251 career wins, all as a St.Louis Cardinal. In 17 seasons, Gibson won 2 World Series MVP's, 2 Cy Young Awards, and a National League season MVP. He retired in 1975.
10. With what team did Pete Rose last wear a uniform as a PLAYER?

Answer: Cincinnati Reds

Rose played in his last season of the Majors in 1986 in a Reds' uniform. He did play for the Expos and Phillies. Rose's last season managing in the Majors was in 1989, also as a Cincinnati Red.
