In response to India's first innings score of 453, Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff's batting partnership helped England to reach a good position. Pietersen scored a century (144) and Flintoff scored 62. But after their dismissal, the rest of the batting collapsed leaving England all out for 302.

In the second innings of the match, India made 251/7 before they declared their innings closed. Gambhir scored 97 and Yuvraj made 86. Persistent problems with the light due to fog resulted in loss of overs on all days of the match. This ensured that the match ended in a tame draw with England making 64/1 in the final innings of the match. Gautam Gambhir was declared the Man of the Match.
