After the 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai, the venues were changed. After the terrorist attacks, the English team returned home and the last two one-day matches had to be cancelled. The English team however returned for the test series, but the venues were changed. The first test was shifted to Chennai and the second test to Mohali.

English opener Andrew Strauss scored centuries in both the innings of the first test played at Chennai. He scored 123 in the first innings and 108 in the second innings. Paul Collingwood also scored a century for England in the second innings with 108.
