Andres Galarraga started his MLB career with the Montreal Expos in 1985. He moved around to various clubs before playing his last game as an Anaheim Angel in 2004. Even though he was a big man, he was an extremely quick first baseman, thus nicknamed "The Big Cat".

In 2000, he won the National League Comeback Player of the Year Award after sitting out the entire 1999 season for cancer treatment.

Rupp led the team to NCAA Championships in 1948, 1949, 1951 and 1958. Joe B Hall was coach for the 1978 win. Pitino won in 1996 and Smith in 1998. Rupp coached the team from 1930-1972. He was 70 years old when he quit coaching the team. At that time, university employees in Kentucky had a mandatory retirement age of 70. Home games are played in Lexington's Rupp Arena.
