Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sterling Marlin was born when?

Answer: 6-30-1957

Sterling was the only child of Clifton "Coo Coo" and Eula Faye Marlin. Sterling grew up in a racing family. Coo Coo was the track champion at Nashville several times in the early to mid sixties, and was one of the top independents in Nascar Winston Cup in the early to mid seventies.
2. Sterling was quite an athlete in high school. He went to high school where?

Answer: Spring Hill High

Sterling was the quarterback for his high school football team, and also played on the basketball team. When he was a kid he wanted to play for the University of Tennessee Volunteers.
3. When he has the time Sterling collects what?

Answer: civil war relics

Sterling has quite a collection of civil war relics, that he has found throughout the state of Tennessee. Some of the items he has found include belt buckles, a fork from a mess kit, and boxes of bullets.
4. Back in the 70s, Sterling was the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway champion how many straight years?

Answer: 3

Sterling followed in his Father's foot steps, by winning three straight championships at Nashville. He would have, with all likelihood, broken Coo Coo's record, if he hadn't moved up to Winston Cup when he did.
5. Sterling was Nascar Winston Cup rookie of the year in what year?

Answer: 1983

Sterling won the rookie of the year for 1983 while driving for Roger Hamby. Unfortunately, they did not have a sponsor for the next year, and Sterling only drove in a hand full of races in 1984.
6. From 1987 through 1990 Sterling drove for what car owner?

Answer: Billy Hagan

During these years, Sterling drove the Oldsmobile owned by Billy Hagan. He was sponsored by Piedmont Airlines and Sunoco Ultra during that time.
7. From 1991 through 1993, Sterling drove for what car owner?

Answer: Junior Johnson

During these three years, Sterling drove the Maxwell House Ford Thunderbird for Junior Johnson. Although the team showed a lot of promise, things just didn't pan out.
8. While driving for Junior Johnson in the April 1991 Bristol race, Sterling was involved in a crash and badly burned. He was able to start the next two races to get the points, but then turned the car over to this driver. Who was it?

Answer: Charlie Glotzbach

Charlie Glotzbach was one of the stars of Nascar back in the late sixties and early seventies. He won the pole position for the very first race at Talladega in a Dodge Daytona.
9. From 1994 to 1997, Sterling drove for the Morgan-McClure team. They were sponsored by who?

Answer: Kodak Films

The Morgan-McClure team was sponsored by Kodak films. This is one of the longest sponsor-car owner alliances in Nascar.
10. When Sterling won the 1994 and 1995 Daytona 500's, he became only the third driver to win back to back Daytona 500 races. The other two to accomplish this were?

Answer: Petty and Yarborough

Richard Petty won the 500 back to back in 1973-1974. He won a total of seven Daytona 500's. Cale Yarborough won back to back in 1983-1984. He won a total of four Daytona 500's.
