Remembered by many sports analysts as simply "The Shot", Laettner fired off a jump shot at the buzzer, propelling the Blue Devils to a 104-103 win over the Wildcats. Duke went on to defeat Indiana before pulling off an impressive twenty point victory over the Michigan Wolverines in the title game.

"Coach K" followed up his second national title by serving as assistant coach for the gold medal winning USA Olympic team the same year. Laettner was joined by, among others, Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan, and Patrick Ewing in Barcelona that summer.
