Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. John Locke wrote four notes to Charlie. Which of these was NOT one of his notes?

Answer: Find me some water

Locke awoke much like Jack did in the series opener. He was on the ground, and your first view was of his eye. Then the scene panned out, and you could see Locke lying on grass. He was unable to speak right off, after surviving the hatch implosion. So, he wrote notes to Charlie. Charlie, his humor having re-emerged, taunted Locke about not being about to speak, his zero tolerance drug policy, and the beating he'd given to Charlie in season two. Charlie was angry with Locke, but used his anger with some forgiving humor attached to it.
The notes read:
"I need your help"
"I need u 2 stand guard"
"@ the sweat lodge" and
"Dont come in"
Charlie did stand guard while John Locke went on his vision quest with the island.
2. Who was the first survivor to see a very alive Desmond running around the jungle?

Answer: Locke

Just after the scene of John's awakening, he saw Desmond just off to his side. But, Locke was laying down and could not speak, so his efforts to call out to Desmond were not fruitful. Hurley was the next person to encounter Desmond.
3. Who's waiting for Locke during his flashback on California highway 36?

Answer: Eddie

Edward Colburn, known to us first as Eddie, awaited John specifically. He was an undercover officer playing hitchhiker. California highway 36 is the real highway that takes you from Red Bluff to Eureka, where Eddie claimed to be headed.

Actor Justin Chatwin played Eddie. He also played Josh in the series premier of "Weeds", son to Tom Cruise's character in "War of the Worlds", and Billy in this wild movie called "The Chumscrubber".
4. Locke's vision quest sequence- Who guided John, and also pushed him around the airport in his wheelchair?

Answer: Boone

Ian Somerhalder guest starred as Boone, reprising his role as a main character from season one. Boone told John that his own death was a sacrifice that the island had required. He told John he would be able to speak again when he had something worth saying. He also aided John in locating the survivor who needed his help.
5. Locke's vision quest sequence- Which choice fits with the guide's statement- "fine, at least for a while"?

Answer: Charlie, Claire and Aaron

Boone told John that someone in that airport (in Sydney) needed his help. His comment about Charlie, Claire and baby Aaron alluded to their possible future in season three.
6. Locke's vision quest sequence- Who was the man in the airport that waved a wand over Jack?

Answer: Benjamin "Henry Gale" Linus

Jack took off his watch and placed his items in the x-ray cart, and allowed Ben Linus, formerly Henry Gale, also known as Benry, to wave the metal detection wand over him. I think this vision showed John the truth of Jack's new relationship with Benry (Ben/Henry).
7. Locke's vision quest sequence- How many flight attendants came down the escalator with Desmond, the "pilot"?

Answer: 3

The three flight attendants looked very similar. Desmond came down the escalator all smiles, the ladies close by his side. When John pointed to them, Boone said "forget it, he's helping himself." I'm not sure if that was a prediction or an observance. Desmond was all about helping himself in season two, after Kelvin had him down in that hatch for three years under false pretenses.
8. Locke's vision quest sequence- During this sequence, was it Hurley who stood behind the ticket counter and punched the "numbers" into a computer?

Answer: Yes

Hurley was also all smiles, punching in those worrisome numbers. But, when John inquired about him, Boone stated "not Hurley".
9. Locke's vision quest sequence- After Locke made it up the escalator on his own, what did he find at the top?

Answer: Eko's bloody stick

John followed Boone up the escalator, but he had to crawl. At the top he found blood on the floor, and then Eko's stick covered in blood. Boone reappeared, also covered in blood, and stated "Clean it up John. They've got him, you don't have much time." John then awakened inside the sweat lodge, saw a growling polar bear inside the fire, and leapt out of the tent.
10. After Locke's vision quest ended, he and Charlie went in search of Eko. What item of Eko's did Locke find on the ground in the jungle?

Answer: cross necklace

After this discovery, John made the observation that Eko had been dragged away. Charlie asked "dragged by what?" John offered that the polar bear could be the culprit and Charlie commented that Sawyer had killed "the polar bear". John was quick to point out that Sawyer killed "a polar bear".

As they continued on, they ran into Hurley on his way back from the "Others", and found bits of white fuzz to indicate a possible polar bear.
11. Which islander came into close contact with an airborne hunting knife?

Answer: Hurley

While they tracked the polar bear, Charlie and John were extremely on edge. They heard a rustling in the jungle just in front of them, and John threw his hunting knife. Thankfully, Hurley had his water canteen up to block his head. Hurley told John about the true identity of Henry Gale, and Charlie told him about John's 'Eko theory'. Hurley headed off to find the beach camp, and that was when he ran into a nude Desmond.
12. How did Hurley describe the T-shirt he gave to a naked Desmond?

Answer: Tie-dyed

To paraphrase Hurley, "dude the hatch blew off your underwear?"
At least Desmond didn't implode along with the hatch. Though, to be honest, I AM baffled as to how he, John and Eko made it out alive. Hurley aided Desmond by giving him a very large olive colored tie-dyed T-shirt. It was big enough to make a perfect dress for Desmond.
13. In his flashback, did Locke kill officer Colburn?

Answer: No

John had unwittingly brought a cop into his little commune. They had welcomed him with open arms, but Eddie was an agent. The commune had a nice little marijuana crop growing inside a greenhouse. When Mike and Jan realized just who Eddie really was, they hurriedly packed up their paper trail. They tore into John about Eddie, but John promised he could fix it all. He took Eddie out on a hunt, with Eddie's rifle not loaded. He had planned to question and then kill Eddie. Eddie admitted that John had been picked, as his psyche profile showed him as "amenable for coercion". John could not kill Eddie, which Eddie already knew. He told John he was a farmer, not a hunter. But later, Eko (or John's hallucination of Eko) told John he was indeed a hunter.

Chris Mulkey played Mike and Virginia Morris played Jan. Chris played Hank on "Twin Peaks" back in 1990/91 and Virginia Mother in the movie "Species".
14. Who told Hurley about Locke's speech before he actually made it?

Answer: Desmond

Hurley told Desmond what had happened to the sky and island during the hatch implosion, after Desmond had explained it to him. Desmond said he missed that event. Hurley went on to say that Jack, Kate and Sawyer had also witnessed the event, right before a bag came down over their heads. Desmond reassured Hurley that John would save them, as he had made a big speech about it. Hurley did not understand the comment, and when questioned, Desmond realized what it sounded like. Desmond knew he hadn't even seen John since the hatch event.
Later, on the beach and Eko saved, John made this exact speech. Desmond stood down by the surf, and pitched rocks into the water. Hurley stood by Charlie, but looked down on Des. He told Charlie he was having a deja vu, and Charlie asked him to get bandages from the kitchen when it passed.
Kate was still trapped by Benry and company, and Nikki (the newest female main character at this point) was more concerned with Jack's whereabouts. Kiele Sanchez was cast to play Nikki for season three.
15. What did Locke find inside the polar bear's den?

Answer: All of these

John made a torch and convinced Charlie to wait outside the den. He had a can of hairspray to use as a flame thrower, which he knew would be his best weapon against a bear. He found a beat up toy truck on his way into the den, and then saw a pile of what looked liked child bones.

There may have been adult bones as well, but there was definitely the skull of a small human. Finally, John located Eko way in the back, injured. The bear took hold of Eko, but John sprayed the animal with fire and hauled Eko out.

He and Charlie walked Eko back to camp, but not before Eko sent John a message. He told John that he could still protect Kate, Jack and Sawyer. He explained to John that he could still save them, and promised him that he would find them. He ended the prophetic speech with "after all, you are a hunter John." When Charlie came back with some water, Eko was still unconscious. So, maybe John's vision quest was not quite over?
