There have been over 800 episodes in addition to Christmas episodes and other specials. BBC America and Syfy channel have been airing the episodes, in the US, since 2008. Can you name this show with a blue police box?

Answer: Doctor Who

"Doctor Who" has found a cult following all over the world. It's been a staple of the sci/fi world in the UK since the '60s. The Doctor is a time lord, traveling through time and space exploring and helping all those he comes in contact with. He rarely travels alone; he has between one and three companions who get the ride of their lives.

He battles other galactic beings and with a strong dose of humor, genius and enthusiasm he changes the lives of everyone he meets.
2. Take a look at your neighbors. Is there a house on your street where you're sure a vampire, werewolf and a ghost live there? Whether you live in Bristol, England or in Barry, Wales, you just might have a neighbor house like that. This show is about three, supernatural beings trying their best to live a "normal life". Can you name this show?

Answer: Being Human

"Being Human" began in 2009 in the UK. It began showing in the US in 2011. Several actors have played the three main characters and they have moved location from England to Wales, but the premise remains the same. The characters are a vampire who only drinks bottled blood, a werewolf who locks himself in a closet when he changes and a ghost who can only occasionally be seen by anyone other than her housemates.

This makes for a funny and sometimes scary theme running throughout the series.
3. Think about a show where dinosaurs emerge from an energy portal into the modern day and you might think of a kids show. But this show makes it work for an adult audience. The dinosaurs aren't purple, they are real. This show first aired in the UK in 2007 and was picked up for US audiences in 2008. Filming in the UK ended in 2011 but in 2012 and 2013 there have been new US versions. The dinosaurs are captured by a team of scientists and sent back through the portal but not until they have caused all kinds of trouble. What show is this?

Answer: Primeval

"Primeval" is a fast moving sci/fi adventure in each episode. The energy portals can open anywhere and an energetic team of scientists are in constant search for information about how and where the portals will emerge. If you haven't watched this show, the effects are great and so are the stories, tune in to SyFy and check it out.
4. This actor had a long running comedy/variety show in the UK from 1955-1991. He hadn't had much success on the stage or on radio but on television he truly found his niche. He was born Alfred Hawthorne Hill but the name he went by created a persona who was popular for nearly four decades. The show slowly made its way to the US under a cloud of sexism and political incorrectness, but by 1985 the show was playing consistently in the US. What funny TV star had this show?

Answer: Benny Hill

The "Benny Hill Show" was a comedy phenom all over the world. The show offered short sketches, taped interviews, candid camera style scenes and of course the half-naked ladies, which kept the criticism of the show always brewing. Sources close to Hill said that the cancellation of the show is what ultimately killed Hill.

He lived for that show, but by the early '90s there was no place in television for that type of show which, among other tasteless things, tended to belittle women.
5. In 2010, a remake was started of an old classic in the UK. They began to be shown in the US shortly thereafter. The show gives an updated version of a classic British detective. The remake stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the storied detective and Martin Freeman as his sidekick. There were three 90 min. episodes in 2010 and three episodes in 2012. The writers, Moffat and Gatiss of "Doctor Who" fame, wanted to know what a new breed of this old character could accomplish with modern day technology. Who could this be?

Answer: Sherlock

The "Sherlock" mysteries have been shown in the US on "Masterpiece Theater". They are each like a short movie, and one story is more interesting than the next. Moffat and Gatiss discussed the creation of a "new" Sherlock Holmes while on the train to and from Cardiff, where the "Doctor Who" set was located. Each story seems much like the old stories of Holmes, but he has all the tools of the modern day to help in his investigation.

It's a great mix of new and old.
