Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On their trek with Michael, Kate notices people following them. Out of the group, who actually killed one of the "Others"?

Answer: Sawyer

Kate warned Sawyer, and then shot first. Sawyer fired after her, killing one of their followers. Sawyer wanted to chase after the one who got away, but Jack said it is pointless. Then, Jack forced Michael to come clean about his plan. He did, and they all learned that Michael killed Ana and Libby.
2. Who shows Eko where to find dynamite?

Answer: Charlie

Eko is desperate to get the blast doors open inside the hatch. He faithfully believes that the button must be pushed. Charlie leads Eko to the dynamite in the jungle, and Eko sets off an explosion inside the hatch. Neither man was killed in the blast, thankfully, but Eko's fate remained a mystery as the episode ended.
3. What was Desmond doing the night Boone died?

Answer: all of these

Desmond had faced his accidental homicide of Kelvin, and the fact that he'd lost three years to an imagined quarantine. He had almost faced a complete system failure inside the hatch, and was all alone. He had a gun ready, and was prepared to read "Our Mutual Friend". Even without the gun and his look of total desperation, his reading of the book was a dead give away that suicide was coming next.
Though Boone did not die in "Deus Ex Machina", of which these events occur, this was still that same night he died.
4. What did Desmond find inside "Our Mutual Friend"?

Answer: a letter from Penny

Penny wrote him a letter before his incarceration. She assumed he would find it in the book while in prison, but Desmond hadn't given up hope until he killed Kelvin. In the letter, Penny told Desmond that all most people needed in this life was one person who really loved them. She wrote she'd wait forever and signed it "Pen".
After he read the letter, he started trashing the hatch. Then, he heard Locke beating on the hatch door and asking "why". That's when Desmond turned on the light, in "Deus Ex Machina", that Locke perceived as a sign.
5. What did Sayid find in the "Others" camp, when he opened the doors with the Dharma logo?

Answer: solid rock

When Michael was brought to this sea side "village" of the "Others", he saw them dressed in rags, living in huts, and two men guarding this "doorway" with the Dharma logo. He reported this all back to Jack, and told them about the big dark rock with the hole in it.
When Sayid made his way there, he witnessed all of these same things. Only, in Sayid's case, the camp was empty of humans and the Dharma doors led nowhere. If Michael knew they lead nowhere, he never let on in his story telling.
I am sure most people know that Narnia is the magical place inside the wardrobe in "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe". The planet Uriel is the safe planet in the book "A Wrinkle in Time".
6. The black smoke appeared again (not the smoke monster), as it had at the end of season one.

Answer: True

Sayid told Jack to look for it as a signal. He'd shown Jack a certain type of leaf that burned as black smoke. Sawyer noticed it first, and that's when Jack realized that they were not being led back toward the water as Michael had claimed. This was right after Kate noticed a huge pile of tubes.
7. After the travelers explored the Pearl station's huge pile of discarded notebooks, they were attacked. Which person was hit first with the tranquilizer dart?

Answer: Sawyer

Kate noticed the massive pile of tubes, which contained the notebooks from the Pearl. This lent credence to Desmond's claim to John that the Pearl was the experiment, and not the Swan. The notebooks were full of information, and no one had ever come to collect them.

The only thing that seemed real from the Pearl was the detailed computer tracking of the times the numbers were entered into the Swan's computer. We hear whispers on the wind again, and I could make out the words "Elizabeth, run". Suddenly, Sawyer gets hit with a dart in the neck.

He falls to the ground, spasming, and then Kate gets hit next. Jack lifts up her and tries to get away, but he takes one in his leg and falls. The next time we see them, the group is being led down a large pier.
8. After he accidentally kills Kelvin, what does Desmond take from him?

Answer: a key

After three years inside the hatch, Desmond was getting desperate to go outside. Kelvin ordered him to stay inside one last time, but when Desmond noticed the tear in his protective suit, he followed him outside. Desmond witnessed Kelvin taking off all of the protective gear, so he followed him all the way down to the water. Once there, Desmond discovered his sailboat, which Kelvin had claimed to have never seen.

The two men began fighting, and in the struggle Kelvin's head hit a rock. Desmond ripped the fail safe key off his neck and ran back to the hatch.

The system was in failure already, but Desmond was able to get it back online and prevent a total meltdown of some kind. It has been mentioned that an incident occurred once before, which is the reason behind the need for a release every 108 minutes. Unfortunately for flight 815, the electromagnetic pulse that started caused the plane to be ripped out of the sky and into an alternate universe. Ok, that last part was just me joking, maybe..
9. Does Henry tell Michael that once he leaves he'll never find his way back to the island?

Answer: Yes

Henry, surprisingly, honors the agreement that was made with Michael. Henry seems to be in charge, which I suspected from the moment he said to Jack, "they'll never give you Walt". He allows Michael to board the small boat with Walt, which looks to be the same one Tom used to capture Walt 22 days earlier.

Henry then tells Michael to follow the compass bearing of 325 and he'll find rescue. Michael asks Henry if he wonders if Michael will tell anyone where he was. Henry said he knew that Michael might tell, but he'd also have to admit the lengths he went to in order to get Walt back.

He adds, "besides, once you leave you'll never find your way back." That last statement lead me to believe that the island is cloaked by virtue of its astounding electromagnetic energy, which Kelvin told Desmond was from some natural source. Hurley is freed and instructed to warn the rest of the survivors to stay away.

Henry tells Michael that Jack, Kate and Sawyer are "coming home with us".
10. At the end of the episode, two men were seen in a building set in a snowy world. What game were these two playing before one noticed the red light?

Answer: Chess

The scene cut from Charlie and Claire on the beach at night, to two men in some cold setting (Desmond's snow globe) in daylight. It could have still been nighttime, if these two were in an extreme pole of the planet. They were playing chess, and one notices a red light on one of their instrument panels. They become very anxious, claiming to have almost "missed it again". I assumed that referred to the time it crashed the plane. The screen on the panel read "electromagnetic anomaly detected", so they knew it was not a false alarm. One of the men dialed up Penny Widmore, obviously the lady in charge of their camp, and told her "I think we found it."
They were in the cold, there are polar bears on the island, what can that mean? Is there some mysterious way to cross back and forth between realities? And, will my long held theory prove true? It's my opinion that time for the island does not pass in real time. That when the rescue does happen at the end of season four (my prediction too), instead of four months time having passed, it'll just be days. Hanso's website claims to have a research facility in a very cold climate as well.

I hope you enjoyed my quizzes on the finale, stay "Lost" as my friend Leah says, and we'll see you when season three begins.
