Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first leg of the race, two Road Blocks were completed. In one, a team member performed a skydive. In the other, what did team members do?

Answer: Serve tea

Arriving in Victoria, B.C., one team member was almost immediately told to perform a tandem skydive from nearly four kilometers above the ocean. Natalie, Alain, Nicole, Bob, Sukhi, Ryan, Jackie, Jen, Pete, Shahla, and Pierre completed this first task.

Heading to Downtown Victoria though, teams found a second Road Block in front of the Empress Hotel requiring that the other member of each team (Meaghan, Audrey, Cormac, Rex, Laura, Jinder, Rob, Mickey, Michel, Shawn, and Nabeela) end up having to memorize and serve tea and lunch to diners.

When they used proper etiquette and recited their dishes, they could continue.
2. Which team member did not build a Tofino deck chair on the beach in Leg 2, instead taking a penalty?

Answer: Bob

This task was attempted by Natalie, Alain, Bob, Pete, Cormac, Michel, Jinder, Laura, and Ryan. In this one, after team members attempted to surf on North Chesterman Beach, one member of each pair had to head to the south end of the beach for a Road Block task in which they had to construct a traditional Tofino deck chair using driftwood, netting, and rope. Bob opted to take a four hour penalty for not completing the task (though he seemed to have it right at the time) while neither Jen nor Shawn completed the task after an injury on the water forced their early elimination.
3. In Hong Kong in Leg 3, the team member completing the Road Block had to eat a dish involving which of these?

Answer: Snake

During Leg 3, teams completed an appetizing Road Block task at a restaurant on Hilliard Street in Hong Kong. Here, one team member (Meaghan, Nicole, Pierre, Mickey, Rob, Bob, Alain, Sukhi, and Jackie) needed to drink a shot of bile extracted from a snake's gallbladder.

Then, they had to down an entire bowl of snake meat soup before they could collect their next clue and continue with the race.
4. In Leg 4, team members performed a bungee jump Road Block task in what city?

Answer: Macau

Visiting the gambling mecca of Macau in Leg 4, eight racers had the chance to bungee jump more than seven hundred feet from the observation deck of the Macau Tower, completing their Road Block task early on in this overnight leg through the city streets.

The task, completed by Natalie, Michel, Cormac, Rob, Jinder, Rex, Mickey, and Audrey, was the second vertigo-inducing Road Block of the race after Leg 1's skydive.
5. In Leg 5 in the Yukon, teams completing the Road Block were asked which qualifying question?

Answer: 'Who's got a steady hand?'

In the fifth leg of the race, team members heading into the Road Block were asked to participate in the biathlon, a gruelling half-biking/half-shooting event in which the racers had to test aim and endurance. Ryan, Alain, Nicole, Natalie, Pete, Sukhi, Pierre, and Rex ended up joining this task, receiving five shots for each one kilometer course they too through the woods. Nicole, who arrived last to the Pit Stop with Cormac, ended up taking twenty-two attempts to complete the challenge, resulting in their elimination.

Others, like Alain and Sukhi, ended up completing the task on their first or second go-around, in turn forcing Natalie and Meghan out of the lead position at the Pit Stop for the first time.
6. Which team utilized the Express Pass to skip the Road Block at Whiskey Dix in Winnipeg (in Leg 6)?

Answer: Pierre and Michel

Heading to the Whiskey Dix bar in Downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, team members were made to memorize the lyrics of a song, dress up as a glam rocker, and perform onstage for a crowd of people. Pierre and Michel, who arrived relatively early, ended up using the Express Pass to get by any language difficulties and ended up placing first in this leg, even beating Alain and Audrey (who picked up the Fast Forward). Natalie, Mickey, Michel, Jinder, Rex, and Ryan completed the task.
7. During the Road Block in Leg 7, team members needed to distill apple brandy, but where?

Answer: France

Flying to Normandy, France in Leg 7, the final six teams found their Road Block clues waiting in front of the Calvados Boulard Distillery in Coquainvilliers. There, Meaghan, Pierre, Pete, Jinder, Audrey, and Ryan had to use prescribed formulas, tools, and methods to distill pure apple brandy from the property's storehouse to its proper proof, dropping it to 40% alcohol by volume.

While Michel and Audrey got this on their first try, other racers took much longer to figure out the scientific process.
8. One team used an Express Pass to avoid the Mentos candy Road block task in Paris in Leg 8.

Answer: False

Heading to Pont de Grenelle on the Īle aux Cygnes, the six teams racing found one of the more nefarious Road Block tasks of the race, one which would take some teams upwards of six hours to complete. In this task, one team member needed to use hundreds of Mentos to properly recreate a local artist's work, matching colours exactly. Natalie, Michel, Sukhi, Pete, Audrey, and Rob ended up working diligently at this task and, in the end, Michel ended up taking more than eight hours to finish the task resulting in his and Pierre's elimination upon arriving at Quai de la Tournelle.

The Express Passes were used in Legs 3 and 6.
9. In Leg 10, visiting Province House in Charlottetown, P.E.I., team members needed to identify ten people all relating to which of the following?

Answer: Confederation

Arriving at Province House in Leg 10, team members needed to speak to old-time actors in the front courtyard to gather clues about the people inside the building. Then, with these clues and the names of those inside, they had to correctly identify ten people who were present for the signing of Confederation. If they guessed a name incorrectly, they would need to leave and start again. Sukhi and Ryan were required to complete this task as their partners had maxed out their Road Block completions.
10. How many Road Blocks were completed in the final leg of the race (in Ottawa)?

Answer: Two

During the final leg of the race, each member of each team needed to take on one Road Block, so those not completing the first one had to complete the second. The first was a scavenger hunt at the Diefenbunker completed by Natalie, Pete, and Rob while the second sent Meaghan, Mickey, and Ryan to the atrium of the Canadian Museum of Nature for a physically-demanding ascension to the roof.

This made a total of fourteen Road Blocks across twelve legs of the race.
