Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Did both Michael and Walt each stab the polar bear with a knife?

Answer: Yes

As Michael and Locke were working together to save Walt from the polar bear, Michael tossed Walt one of Locke's knives and told him to use it if the polar bear got too close. The polar bear then swiped at Walt, and he stabbed the bear's paw with the knife.

After Michael got Walt out of danger, the polar bear went after Michael, and he grabbed the knife and stabbed the bear in the throat area. The polar bear soon got tired of this abuse and left.
2. Which incident in this episode led Brian to suspect that Walt was "different"?

Answer: A bird crashing into a window

In a flashback, Walt remembered being very reluctant to do his homework assignment on the birds of Australia. As he was complaining, his mother Susan started feeling ill. Suddenly, a bird crashed into the window, startling everyone. The bird was dead, and it looked very similar to a bird in Walt's book. Brian was looking at Walt quite oddly, and it seemed that he realized that there was something different about Walt, which he later told Michael.
3. What was Walt's primary reaction to the joke about the penguin with a sunburn?

Answer: He thought it was dumb

That night, Michael gave Walt the box of cards and letters that Michael had sent him when Walt lived with Susan. Walt was surprised that he had never seen them, but Michael found it hopeful that Susan had never thrown them away. Michael showed Walt the card he had drawn for him on his second birthday while Michael was in the hospital.

It had a drawing of a man in a body cast and the joke about a penguin with a sunburn. Walt thought the joke was dumb and Michael agreed, but soon they were both laughing.
4. During Charlie and Sawyer's altercation over Claire's diary, where did Charlie hit Sawyer?

Answer: arm

Kate had found Claire's luggage for Charlie, but Charlie couldn't find Claire's diary. Both Charlie and Kate came to the conclusion that Sawyer took it (who else?) and confronted him. This time, Sawyer actually did have the diary, and he taunted Charlie by pretending to read negative tidbits about Charlie from the diary. Charlie got angry and hit Sawyer's injured arm where Sayid had stabbed it in "Confidence Man".

As Charlie retrieved the diary, Sawyer punched Charlie in the face and Kate had to break up the fight. All that fighting, and Sawyer never even read the thing!
5. Who made a dramatic appearance at the very end of this episode?

Answer: Claire

Locke and Boone were in the jungle at night, and Locke was trying to call Vincent with his dog whistle. They heard noises of something approaching, and Boone thought it might be Vincent. But they soon saw someone coming toward them, and it certainly wasn't Vincent. Instead, it was Claire, and she did look terrible! This was how the episode ended.
6. When Locke was teaching Walt how to throw a knife, where did he tell Walt to picture throwing it?

Answer: His mind's eye

As Walt was practicing, Locke told him to aim for a knot on a tree and told him to picture it in his "mind's eye". Walt understood what this meant, that it was a picture in his head. Walt tried again, and this time he nailed it perfectly. Michael then came upon the scene and was none to happy to learn that Locke was teaching his son how to throw knives.
7. Who did Michael name Walt after?

Answer: Michael's father

Michael and Susan were shopping for baby furniture and supplies when Susan was pregnant. During this outing Michael told Susan that he was going to take a break from his art and do some construction work while Susan finished law school. Michael also announced that he wanted to name the baby Walt after his father. Susan tried out the name "Walter Lloyd", where Lloyd was her last name, not Michael's.

This reveals that they were not married at the time, nor did they ever get married.
8. When Michael was looking for Walt at the start of this episode, Charlie was looking for Claire's diary at the same time.

Answer: False

The fist time Michael was looking for Walt, he ran into Charlie, who was looking for Claire's bags. He was trying to find her luggage, but no one knew where it was. At this time Charlie never said a word about Claire's diary. Neither Michael or Charlie could help the other person. Michael also asked Jack if he knew where Walt was.
9. What was in Claire's diary that was identical to something Danielle Rousseau had said?

Answer: The Black Rock

Charlie finally succumbed to temptation and read Claire's diary, where he found that Claire had written quite a bit of how she had liked him. But Charlie found something else in the diary too. He showed Jack and Sayid that Claire had written about having a dream of the "Black Rock". Sayid remembered that Rousseau had mentioned the Black Rock in "Solitary". Sayid thought that the Black Rock might be the triangle on Rousseau's maps, and Charlie thought it might be where Claire had been taken.
10. How did Michael destroy Walt's comic book?

Answer: He threw it in the fire

When Walt secretly went to Locke against Michael's wishes, Locke told Walt not to see him anymore and that he should respect his father. Just then, Michael found Walt and was super angry. Locke left, and Walt called Michael a jerk. The two got into a verbal argument, with Walt saying that Michael had never cared about him. In anger, Michael threw Walt's comic book into the fire.
