Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of Leg 3, teams learned that they would need to remain in which African country?

Answer: Ghana

Departing from a Pit Stop outside the Kaneshie Market in Accra, Ghana early in the morning, nine teams were informed that they would need to hop into a cab and make their way across the city to the Jamestown (or Old Accra) District. Here, they would need to direct their driver to the Akotoku Boxing Academy where they would be able to find their next clue box outside.

At this point in the day, the heat was only beginning to stifle.
2. 'You've got a 'Rocky' road ahead.' Who ended up completing this Road Block task in Leg 3?

Answer: Vicki

Arriving at the Akotoku Boxing Academy, teams found their Road Block task for this leg. For this one, teams needed to choose one member who would be able to properly tape up their hands (according to the boxing specifications) then perform one minute of punching bag training and one minute (non-stop) of rope-skipping. Once they finished this series of small tasks, they would be able to receive their next clue from their trainer and hop back into their taxis. Brook, Chad, Katie, Connor, Kevin, Thomas, Gary, Vicki, and Nat did this one.
3. In Leg 3, teams joined a local class of schoolkids to do which of these things?

Answer: Find where they were on a map

After the Road Block, teams took their taxis to the district outside the city known as Dodowa. Here, teams needed to located a specific supply depot to deliver two wheelbarrows of specific supplies to a nearby school. These included cement, brooms, trowels, and other building materials.

When all of these had been taken to the Asebi D/A Primary School down the road, teams would be able to join a nearby class in session. Once teams located the country of Ghana on a map, they received their Detour clue.
4. Only one team completed the 'Language Arts' Detour option in Leg 3. Which team was it?

Answer: Connor and Jonathan

In this particular Detour, the teams needed to join the Ghanaian schoolkids in two particular activities. In 'Language Arts', completed by Connor and Jonathan, teams were told to use a message and a nearby decoder to determine eight Adinkra symbols and circle them on a giant wall-sized word-search to receive their next clue. Since most teams couldn't find the wall-sized decoder, everyone else chose 'Bicycle Parts' in which they needed to use a stick to roll a bicycle wheel rim down a marked field and back to receive their clue. Both members needed to do the back-and-forth.

The other eight teams settled for this one.
5. Which team arrived at the Pit Stop in first place in Leg 3?

Answer: Connor and Jonathan

After the Detour, teams were told to head on foot to their next Pit Stop, the home of local resident Awusa Ntso, where they would find Phil and the mat down a marked path near a bullpen. Here, Connor and Jonathan checked in first and won themselves $5,000 each (as well as a rather early departure time).

After a heated leg, Kevin and Michael lost their footing during the Detour when Michael needed medical attention due to over-exhaustion and the sun. When they arrived at the Pit Stop they discovered that they had arrived on a non-elimination leg and that they would remain in the race (though they needed to complete a Speed Bump in the following leg). During their mandatory rest period, teams were able to contribute to the local school system and help in the building effort if they so chose.
6. How long did it take the participating team to complete the Speed Bump task in Leg 4 (in Sweden)?

Answer: Ten minutes

In Leg 3, teams departed from their Pit Stop in rural Ghana and were told to fly a long, long way away to the city of Kiruna in Northern Sweden (across the Arctic Circle). Although they were given tickets on flights out of Ghana (due to their frequency) teams were not obliged to use them. As a result, many people took different flights, mixing up the standings almost immediately.
Finding the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, Michael and Kevin completed their Speed Bump task in which they had to spend ten minutes sitting on ice chairs before they could resume the race.
7. In Leg 4, team members had to ride which of these during the Swedish Road Block?

Answer: Dogsled

After recovering their clue written on a block of ice, teams needed to locate Fjellborg's Lodge, a building in the Swedish town of Poikkijärvi where they would be able to find their Road Block for this leg. In this task, the chosen team member needed to go along a marked forest path on a summer dogsled (which actually had wheels) led by Swedish dogs while collecting flags.

They would then need to trade these flags for pelts which would need to be taken back to the start of the course and traded for their next clue. If team members missed a flag, they would need to take another lap of the course for each one left behind. Michael, Mallory, Claire, Kat, Katie, Connor, Stephanie, Nick, and Jill did this one.
8. Which team opted not to complete the 'Sleds' Detour task in Sweden in Leg 4?

Answer: Michael and Kevin

After the Road Block, teams continued on to the town of Riksgränsen on the Swedish/Norwegian border where they found their Detour clue waiting at the Vassijaure Train Station. The first of these choices was the 'Sleds' task in which racers took a chairlift to the top of the nearby mountain and were required to slide down to the bottom on a device called a TechSled. If the members could make it to the bottom in one minute, fifty-eight seconds, they'd get their next clue. Nat and Kat, Gary and Mallory, Brook and Claire, and Nick and Vicki all did this task.
9. Jill and Thomas used the Express Pass in Sweden in Leg 4.

Answer: True

Teams not completing 'Sleds' completed 'Beds' instead. For this task, the participating teams needed to follow local customs and build a structure known as a goahti to the satisfaction of a local to receive their next clue. Michael and Kevin, Chad and Stephanie, Katie and Rachel, and Connor and Jonathan took on this task. Jill and Thomas, on the other hand, arrived, handed in their Express Pass (which they won for placing first in Leg 1) and headed straight to the Pit Stop; this was probably a smart thing to do considering they spent the entire leg trailing.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in Sweden in Leg 4?

Answer: Connor and Jonathan

After the Detour task, teams were told to make their way to a rather interesting Pit Stop resting directly on the border between Sweden and Norway in the town of Riksgränsen. Once there, it was Nat and Kat who claimed the first place spot and won themselves a trip for two to Belize. Surprisingly, it was Connor and Jonathan who came in last place on this leg. Having placed first in Leg 3, the duo arrived with the later group coming into Sweden and fell behind during the Detour tasks, unable to catch up.
