Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of Leg 11, teams needed to head to which historical Japanese city?

Answer: Hiroshima

In the start of Leg 11, teams needed to make their way from the Pit Stop at the Cheena vala Fishing Nets in Vypin, India to the airport in Cochin where they would need to catch a flight to the city of Hiroshima, Japan (in the country's southern regions).

When they arrived, they made their way to Miyajima to find the torii of the majestic Itsukushima Shrine. They received their next clue and continued on with the race at sunrise.
2. In what Japanese city did the final four teams complete the bulk of Leg 11?

Answer: Osaka

Receiving their clues in the morning at Itsukushima Shrine, teams were required to observe a memorial service at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and to take the time to enjoy the surroundings in this city scarred by the bombings of World War II. When the ceremony ended, they each received their next clue at the same time directing them to the train station.

Here, they needed to hop aboard the next train to Osaka, Japan; each team was required to take the Shinkansen, the bullet train.
3. When teams arrived at the Road Block in Japan in Leg 11, some teams could not choose who completed the task.

Answer: True

When teams arrived in Osaka, they headed to the old TV 8 Studio where one member of each team needed to play 'Bring That Chicken Home', the epitome of a crazy Japanese game show. This required that teams run on a speedy treadmill collecting rubber chickens hanging above their heads.

When they landed on solid ground at the end of the treadmill with their chickens in hand, they were allowed to continue on with the race. Since this was the penultimate leg of the race and team members needed to have an even amount of Road Blocks completed between them, the participants were decided before the task. Art, Vanessa, Brendon, and Rachel finished the task.
4. How many teams completed the 'Bingo Shout-Out' Detour task in Japan in Leg 11?

Answer: Three

After the Road Block, teams located their Detour task at the top of the Umeda Sky Building in the Floating Garden Observatory. Here, they needed to complete either 'Bingo Shout-Out' or 'Photo Cut-Out'. In the former task, completed by Brendon and Rachel, Ralph and Vanessa, and Art and JJ, teams needed to play a game of sushi bingo at a conveyor sushi restaurant, matching pieces of sushi to letters on their playing cards.

When they created a line, they would receive their next clue. 'Photo Cut-Out' was completed by Rachel and Dave. For this task they needed to convince thirty locals to join in pictures with sumo cut-outs (three per photo) to get their next clue.
5. Which team was eliminated during the penultimate leg of the race in Japan?

Answer: Vanessa and Ralph

After the Detour task, teams rushed off to their final Pit Stop for the race at Osaka Castle in the city of Osaka, Japan. Here, Rachel and Dave took their seventh win of the race (and their third consecutive victory) to secure their spot in the final leg.

They also won a trip for two to New Zealand from Travelocity. After Vanessa's injuries hampered her success in the physical Road Block, she and Ralph arrived at the Pit Stop in last place and became the final eliminated team.
6. The final leg of the race occurred on which Hawaiian island?

Answer: Oahu

Leaving their final Pit Stop of the race at night the final three teams opened their clue to discover that they were returning to the United States and heading to their final destination city, Honolulu, Hawaii. The final three teams flew direct from Osaka, landing in Hawaii to try and find their way to 'the twins, Mauka and Makai', both of which were towers at the waterfront on the Honolulu skyline.

Here they found their next clue.
7. Which of these adrenalin-pumping tasks did teams need to complete in the final leg of the race in Hawaii?

Answer: Mechanical ascending

Arriving at the Mauka and Makai Waterfront Towers, teams needed to don protective gear and make their way from the bottom of the buildings to the top via mechanical ascenders. This required that they use their upper body to pull themselves up the entire way.

At the top, they needed to spot their next clue (marked by a flag) at Sand Island and then rappel face-first down the side of the building to find a cab. They needed to direct their driver to the spot they'd discovered.
8. In the first Road Block task of Leg 12 (in Hawaii), team members needed to cut which of these with a samurai sword?

Answer: Ice blocks

Arriving at Sand Island, teams found the first of two Road Blocks in this leg of the race. For this task, one member of each team needed to use a samurai sword to shave at a block of ice. When they shaved a bucket to a marker, they could continue; Dave, Brendon, and JJ finished this task.

After this event, teams needed to proceed on foot through the nearby park to a helicopter waiting to take them to their next destination on the north shore of the island. Here, at a marked beach, they needed to work as a team to perform a simulated lifeguard rescue on the back of a WaveRunner with one driving and the other on the back.
9. How many unique events needed to be completed by team members in the final Road Block in Hawaii?

Answer: Two

After the lifeguard rescue, teams needed to drive to Hakipuʻu Valley, entering through Coral Kingdom Gate. Here, the team members who did not complete the first Road Block, Rachel, Rachel, and Art, needed to complete two different tasks. The first was a land-sledding task known as 'he'e hōlua' in which they had to lie on their stomachs on a pair of thick skis and ride down the hill. If they could do this without falling off until after a marked line, they could complete a bowling-like event known as ''ulu maika'.

After this, they could head to the finish line.
10. Which team became the official winners of "The Amazing Race 20"?

Answer: Rachel and Dave

After the final Road Block, teams needed ride ATVs to find a marked driveway and follow a path therein to a marked dock. From there, after paddling surfboards (while standing) to the island on the opposite side, they could run down the beach to the finish line. Rachel and Dave, who arrived first, soon discovered that they had yet to complete the second Road Block task as they'd missed it on the way in.

Despite this, they recovered from the mistake, passing the other teams on the way, and returned to win the million dollar prize after nearly forty thousand miles of racing.

They also broke the record for amount of leg wins in a single season (with eight of twelve). Art and JJ placed second while Brendon and Rachel placed third.
