Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Legs 1 and 2 of this twentieth "Amazing Race" took teams to the city of Salta and the town of Cafayate, a wine region in which South American nation?

Answer: Argentina

In the first leg of the race, eleven teams flew from Santa Barbara, California (starting the race at a winery) to the town of Santa Bárbara, Argentina, also in the middle of wine country, and it was in this region that teams spent the bulk of their time. That said, after a leg and a half here, teams took lengthy overnight bus rides to Buenos Aires, Argentina to end off the second leg.

While some team members went skydiving over Argentina in Leg 1, some built solar heaters in Leg 2. Ultimately, Misa and Maiya were eliminated in Leg 1 in Cafayate.
2. Although some teams completed their tasks in Asunción, Paraguay during the day, some teams had to visit Plaza de la Democracia at night to balance which of these on their heads?

Answer: Bottles

Leg 3, which took place in Paraguay's capital city, proved to be a tough one for teams as the Detour required either painstaking harp-stringing or the patience and dexterity required to stack hundreds of watermelons in a pyramid. Though some teams made it through with eases, a small handful continued onto the Road Block at Plaza de la Democracia into the night and balanced bottles on their head for a traditional dance before a footrace ultimately decided the eliminated team at the end.
3. In Turin, Italy (in Leg 4), which team was last to check in at the Pit Stop in Piazza Castello?

Answer: Bopper and Mark

The eight remaining teams completed a series of tasks throughout Italy's northwest city in Leg 4 and while Art and JJ claimed the Fast Forward by completing a task on the Lingotto Building, Mark and Bopper arrived in Turin late, never actually catching up to the other teams for the remainder of the leg. Fortunately for them, this was the first of three non-elimination legs of the season and they would live to race another six legs before getting eliminated.
4. In the city of Oberammergau, Germany (in Leg 5), teams were able to search for a trail of which of these in the snow?

Answer: Gingerbread

In a wintertime leg, teams took a train from Turin, Italy to the west edge of Austria and then down into Bavaria, completing a series of tasks taking them through Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the town of Füssen. For their Detour, teams could either head to Oberammergau or Unterammergau.

In the former, they had to follow a trail of gingerbread, collecting pieces on the way, and finish constructing a gingerbread house a la the fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel". This leg of the race also featured a visit to Neuschwanstein Castle, known for being the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty's castle in the Disney film.
5. The team that arrived at the Pit Stop in Baku, Azerbaijan in first place did so by jetting ahead during which task during Leg 6?

Answer: Fast Forward

Rachel and Dave won the second of this race's three Fast Forward clues in Azerbaijan, skipping all other tasks and heading directly to the Pit Stop on Baku's Boulevard Esplanade Estakada. For placing first, both won Ford Tauruses. The rest of the teams, however, engaged with tasks throughout Baku, some of which pushed them to face their fears and some of which-- like scraping crude oil off the bodies of local spa-goers-- were just plain weird.
6. In Leg 7, teams flew to Kilimanjaro Airport in what African nation?

Answer: Tanzania

Leg 7 took the teams from the chilly weather in Baku, Azerbaijan and plunked them into the heart of Africa, flying them to Kilimanjaro Airport for a pair of legs seemingly on-safari. Leg 7 in particular took teams to Ngorongoro Crater where they joined locals to partake in hunting and dance customs.

After building their own tents for the night, teams also checked into the Pit Stop overlooking the crater proper. This was the second non-elimination leg of the race (of three).
7. Near the shores of Lake Manyara, team members collected which of these during a Road Block in Leg 8?

Answer: Honey

After a literal safari through the wilderness of Ngorongoro Crater at the start of Leg 8, teams embarked on chores in the Tanzanian village of Karatu before getting their hands sticky in the sweet, sweet world of beekeeping in the town of Mta Wa Mbu. There, one member of each team needed to don protective gear and collect fresh honey from the hives of local African honeybees. Upon harvesting enough, they could run to the nearby Pit Stop on the shores of Lake Manyara.
8. The Cheena Vala Fishing Nets marked the tenth Pit Stop location. The final five teams visited them in what nation?

Answer: India

Legs 9 and 10 of the race took the final five teams to the city of Kochi, India where they exhausted themselves in a series of tasks involving local customs and work. Leg 9 was perhaps the toughest for most as team members had to learn and execute a Bollywood dance routine with a troupe of thirty people.

In Leg 10, Mark and Bopper completed a Fast Forward task, but it wasn't enough to save them from getting eliminated at the Cheena Vala Fishing Nets in Vypin, leaving only four teams still racing.
9. Which Leg 11 task was found in the building depicted in Osaka, Japan?

Answer: Detour

Teams headed out from their Road Block in Leg 11 and had to find their way up to the Floating Garden found in one of the Umeda Sky Building's highest floors. There, they received their Detour task from two Windows computer terminals, allowing them to choose between a high-stakes game of sushi bingo and a photography session in a local market street.

In this leg of the race, teams also visited the city of Hiroshima and found the Pit Stop at Osaka Castle.
10. In the final leg of the race, teams ascended up one side of the buildings depicted. How did they get down?

Answer: Face-first rappel

In the final leg of the race, the final three teams advanced to Hawaii for a last series of physically-intensive tasks around the island of O'ahu. This began with an ascension and rappel up and down the side of the One Waterfront Towers on the Honolulu coast. Towards the end of the leg, front-runners Rachel and Dave managed to locate the finish line before completing their final Road Block, turned around to complete the task, then returned to claim the million dollar prize.
