Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Departing from the Pit Stop, teams immediately received which type of clue?

Answer: Route Info

Teams commenced Leg 5 from the Torre de Belem in Lisbon, Portugal early in the afternoon having arrived in the late night. The first clue for teams was a Route Info clue instructing the participants to make their way to the westernmost point of continental Europe, Cabo da Roca.

In order to get there, teams needed to take a bus, train, or taxi twenty-two miles to the destination. Once the teams made their way to this cliff-side locale, they would be able to collect their Detour clue for this leg of the race.
2. Which team did not complete the 'Ropes' Detour task of Leg 5?

Answer: Flo and Zach

At Cabo da Roca, teams collected their Detour clue. In this Detour, teams were presented with a choice between 'Ropes' and 'Slopes'. In 'Ropes', teams needed to take a shuttle to the nearby cliffsides and rappel down the side of a 350 foot cliffside to the route marker.

While more terrifying, the task would be quicker. In 'Slopes', teams needed to hike across valleys and cliffs to get to the same route marker, only after a longer time. While Aaron and Arianne, John Vito and Jill, Michael and Kathy, Teri and Ian, Ken and Gerard, Andre and Damon, and Derek and Drew all completed 'Ropes', Flo and Zach completed the 'Slopes' task.
3. After finishing the Detour in Leg 5, teams were instructed to head to which country?

Answer: Morocco

After the completion of the Detour, teams needed to make their way to Algeciras, Spain in their own marked cars. Once there, they needed to hitch a ride on a ferry crossing the Mediterranean to Tangier, Morocco in Africa. Even before this however, many of the teams made the mistake of pumping unleaded gas into their diesel cars and as a result had a horrible time getting to where they needed to be.

In Tangier, teams needed to find their next clue outside the ferry terminal at which point they could proceed onwards.
4. Which team member completed the Road Block in Leg 5?

Answer: Gerard

In Tangier, teams were told to make their way by taxi to the Viajes Flandria Travel Agency. Once there, they would need to sign up for a charter bus (carrying three teams each and departing one hour after another) to the town of Fez where they would find the Road Block outside the Old City.

This Road Block required that one member of each team go to the Dar Dbagh Chouara Tannery and search through a number of vats of dye for one containing their next clue. Gerard, Andre, Drew, John Vito, Ian, Zach, and Aaron all finished this task.
5. Which team was eliminated in Leg 5?

Answer: Michael and Kathy

After the Road Block, teams were told to make their way (by car) to the race's fifth Pit Stop, the Borj Nord, a fortress on the other side of the city. Ken and Gerard, who arrived at the previous Pit Stop in first place, also arrived at this Pit Stop in the lead position, and as a result they won a set of Kodak Easyshare cameras (though ironically, the race, I'm sure, would have more Kodak moments).

As teams continued to file in to the Pit Stop, unfortunately Michael and Kathy were unable to reach Tangier before the other teams finished the leg.

After a ton of car trouble, the couple became the fifth team eliminated from the race.
6. What mode of transportation were teams required to take in Leg 6?

Answer: Train

Departing from the Borj Nord in Fez in the middle of the night, teams made their way to the Hussan II Mosque in Casablanca where they would find their next clue. In order to do this, teams needed to drive one hundred and fifty miles to the destination, one of the world's largest religious areas. Once here, they were instructed to catch a train to Marrakech, Morocco, a city further south in the country. Once here, teams would need to find the Palmerie Oasis outside the city to find their next clue.
7. Which team claimed the Fast Forward clue in Leg 6?

Answer: Teri and Ian

In Leg 6, teams had the option to locate a Fast Forward clue to drive them to the front of the pack. In this Fast Forward, teams needed to make their way to Marrakesh, like the other teams, and find a specific carpet shop in the city. Once there, they would need to search the entire shop for one with a Fast Forward label on it.

As a result, Teri and Ian were the first to claim the clue and they were allowed to skip all tasks and go directly to the Pit Stop. The remaining teams had to go to the Palmerie Oasis outside Marrakesh.
8. How many teams rode horses and completed the 'Now You See It' Detour task for Leg 6?

Answer: None

At the Palmerie Oasis, teams were presented with the Detour. In 'Now You See It', teams were required to take a horse and head to a flag in sight from the clue box. Once there, they would need to dig for pottery which would contain their next clue. In 'Now You Don't', teams needed to ride sandbikes across a trail to a flag not visible from the clue box. Once there, they would need to retrieve their clue from an etching on the ground. Andre and Damon, Derek and Drew, Ken and Gerard, Flo and Zach, John Vito and Jill, and Aaron and Arianne all completed 'Now You Don't' on the ATVs while the none of the teams completed 'Now You See It'.
9. During the Road Block task of Leg 6, teams needed to sell how many bowls of escargot?

Answer: Five

After the Detour task, teams needed to make their way to Marrakesh and find the Cafe Glacier. Once there, they needed to reach the rooftop which would not open for business until 4:45pm, causing many teams to catch up. As a result, most teams were neck-in-neck for the Road Block.

In this Road Block, teams needed to return to the streets below and sell five bowls of escargot to the crowd. After this, teams would receive their next clue. Gerard, Derek, Aaron, Jill, Flo, and Andre completed all the Road Block and received their clues.
10. Which team was eliminated in Leg 6?

Answer: Aaron and Arianne

After the Road Block, teams were told to head directly to the Pit Stop, the Riad Catalina in Marrakesh. At this Moroccan guest-house, teams would find their Pit Stop on the roof. Teri and Ian, who claimed the Fast Forward earlier in the leg, were able to skip all tasks and head directly to the Pit Stop.

They placed first because of this, and for doing this they received a pair of Kodak Easyshare camers (Easyshare cameras for all!). Following them, a few hours later, were the remaining teams though Aaron and Arianne were unable to make up the ground lost over the past leg and were eliminated as a result.
