Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of Leg 9, what did teams need to retrieve from a fjord?

Answer: Keys

In the beginning of Leg 9, teams departed from the Chalet Arnika in Grindelwald, Switzerland and made their way to Gletscherschlucht, a glacial fjord in Grindelwald. Once there, teams needed to find a way to the bottom of the gorge to retrieve one of five sets of keys which would start their cars and allow them to head to the next destination. The clue telling them this would be found within the car.
After this, teams made their way to the town of Kandersteg, just over thirty miles away. Once there, they loaded their cars onto a train and followed the track to their next destination.
2. The team completing the Fast Forward in Leg 9 had to eat what type of food?

Answer: Cheese

In the Fast Forward task for Leg 9, the participating team needed to travel to a small cheese cabin in the town of Kandersteg, Switzerland. Once there, a rather large wheel of cheese awaited, cut and cubed into many tiny pieces. In order to claim the Fast Forward, the team needed to eat their way to the clue, uncovering it cheese cube by cheese cube. John Vito and Jill, the last team to claim the Fast Forward during this "Amazing Race", took the opportunity and gained the ability to skip all tasks and head directly to the Pit Stop.
3. Which Swiss Detour task in Leg 9 involved goats?

Answer: Very Swiss

Once at the Val d'Anniviers, teams found their Detour clue at the Red Bridge. This task required a choice between 'Very Swiss' and 'Extreme Swiss'. In 'Very Swiss', teams needed to travel to a farm eight miles away to find a herd of goats with bells around their necks.

A number of these goats would have keys attached to their bells which would open the box containing their next clue. In 'Extreme Swiss', teams needed to bungee jump one member at a time off the Red Bridge a total of 620 feet. Derek and Drew completed 'Extreme Swiss' while Ken and Gerard, Zach and Flo, and Teri and Ian completed 'Very Swiss'.
4. In the Road Block in Switzerland in Leg 9, what did teams need to build?

Answer: A bike

After the Detour, teams needed to drive to the town of Veytaux, Switzerland. Once there, they needed to locate the Chateau de Chilion. Before this, however, they were given T-Mobile cell phones to use to call their loved ones at their own discretion and time. Once at the Chateau, teams found the Road Block, during which they needed to assemble a Swiss army bike using the necessary parts and tools. Once their model was approved, teams could take the clue, and bike to their next destination, the ninth Pit Stop. Gerard, Drew, Ian, and Zach all completed this Road Block task.
5. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Leg 9?

Answer: Zach and Flo

After the Road Block task, teams needed to make their way to the city of Montreux, Switzerland. Once there, a fleet of peddle-boats waited at a dock on Lake Geneva, and each team needed to peddle their way to the race's ninth pit Stop, the Steamship Savoie resting out on the lake's waters. John Vito and Jill, who claimed the final Fast Forward clue of the race, ended up arriving in first place winning a Caribbean cruise vacation.

The final team to arrive was Zach and Flo, and while they did arrive in fifth place, they were not eliminated as this had been a pre-determined non-elimination leg.
6. Departing from Switzerland in Leg 10, to which country did teams need to travel?

Answer: Malaysia

Docking in Lucerne, Switzerland, teams departed from their Pit Stop, the Steamship Savoie, and made their way to Geneva, Switzerland to visit the Jet d'Eau, Europe's tallest fountain. Once there, teams received a new bit of Route Info instructing them to make their way directly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Once there, teams needed to reach the world famous Petronas Twin Towers in the city to receive their next bit of information.

In order to reach Malaysia, teams needed to determine the country which was indicated by a flag enclosed with their clue.

Then, they needed to find a flight to take them the seven thousand mile distance. While Teri and Ian took one flight connecting in two other European cities, the remaining four teams found another which backtracked to Paris first.
7. Teams didn't visit only one new country in Leg 10. After receiving a clue in Ampang Park, teams took a train to which country?

Answer: Singapore

Once at the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, teams found their clues in front. This clue stated that teams needed to take one of five (carefully placed and promotional) Kodak Easyshare Cameras and have a local take a picture of them in front of the towers. Once this was done, teams needed to travel a mile to get them developed at a specific machine in Ampang Park.

This machine would also print out the team's clue with the photo. Following this task (as stated, brought to us by the people at Kodak), teams were told to hop onto a train and make their way to a railway station in Singapore.
8. In the 'Wet' Detour task in Leg 10, teams needed to swim through a tank of which of these?

Answer: Manatees

Once in Singapore, nearly 200 miles from Kuala Lumpur, teams needed to make their way to the National Orchid Garden to find a rare flower known as the 'Margaret Thatcher'. Here, teams found their Detour clue for this leg of the race. In this Detour, teams had a choice between 'Wet' and 'Dry'.

In 'Wet', teams made their way to the Singapore Zoological Gardens where they would need to find the manatee tank, don a wetsuit and gear, and swim across the tank to a waiting clue box. Teams finishing this task included Zach and Flo, Ken and Gerard, and John Vito and Jill.
9. In the 'Dry' Detour task in Leg 10, what did teams need to find?

Answer: A TV actor

In the 'Dry' Detour task, teams needed to take a van and make their way to an apartment building in Singapore where they would need to find a Singaporean television star's apartment to receive their clue. The tricky part is the fact that the apartment building is nearly labyrinthine, and teams would have a hard time operating the elevator (which doesn't go to every floor) and finding their way around. Furthermore, all of the streets in the area have the same name. Teams completing this task included Teri and Ian and Derek and Drew. After the Detour, teams needed to make their way to Suntec City in Singapore.
10. Which team was eliminated in Leg 10?

Answer: John Vito and Jill

Teams arriving at Suntec City found their final clue for the leg in the center of the Fountain of Wealth. Once obtaining this, teams were told to make their way directly to the tenth Pit Stop at the top of Mount Faber. Derek and Drew arrived at this Pit Stop in first place and for doing so they won a seven-day European cruise.

Although John Vito and Jill took the Fast Forward in Switzerland and departed on Leg 10 in first place, they were unable to keep their lead in Singapore and were subsequently eliminated from the race.
