Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of Leg 11, teams needed to fly to which country?

Answer: Vietnam

Opening their first clue on Mount Faber, teams were instructed to head to Singapore's international airport and make their way to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in order to locate their next route marker. For the duration of the teams' time in Vietnam, all of the race flags have been changed to solid yellow so as to differentiate from the country's national flag comprised of the normal yellow and red. Once in Ho Chi Minh City, teams needed to find the statue of Bac Ho in the city's Rex Square to find their next clue box. All four teams went to Ho Chi Minh City via Kuala Lumpur.
2. How many teams completed the 'Easy Buy' Detour task in Leg 11?

Answer: Two

After reaching the statue of Bac Ho, teams were told to make their way to the village of Cai Be, seventy miles away from the city in the Mekong Delta. Once there, they discovered their Detour tasks at the edge of the town's floating market. The first option of these Detour tasks was 'Easy Buy'.

In this task, teams needed to travel by sampan into the floating market nearby and find a single specific boat selling water coconuts. Once they purchased a bag at any price, they would receive their clue.

The teams completing this Detour option included Teri and Ian and Derek and Drew.
3. In Leg 11, one of the Detour tasks was 'Easy Buy'. What was the other?

Answer: Hard Sell

In 'Hard Sell', teams needed to head into the market on the land and take a set of shoulder baskets around to sell fruit. Once the team gained forty thousand Dong in total from their sales (about $2.50 American), they would be able to receive their next clue.

Although nearby and easy to find, selling fruit for (on average) six cents American could take a while. Ken and Gerard and Flo and Zach were the teams finishing up this task. After the Detour, teams were instructed to make their way back to Ho Chi Minh City. Once there, they needed to reach 2A Ton Duc Thang Street.
4. In the cyclos Road Block in Leg 11, who did not pedal as part of the task?

Answer: Ken

Once back in Ho Chi Minh City, teams found their Road Block clue at 2A Ton Duc Thang Street on the edge of the Saigon River. For this Road Block, team members needed to choose one person to pedal cycled rickshaw through Ho Chi Minh City following a marked path.

This lengthy trip included taking a ferry over the Saigon River to the Pit Stop. Team members completing this Road Block through the streets of Vietnam's capital city included Ian, Zach, Gerard, and Drew.
5. Which team was eliminated in Leg 11?

Answer: Derek and Drew

Continuing through the Road Block, teams discovered that their marked trail led them directly to the eleventh Pit Stop of the race, the Cafe Thu Thiem. Teri and Ian secured their second first place victory of the race and as a result won a European cruise vacation trip for after the race.

As other teams rolled in, Derek and Drew accidentally missed their clue box and took the marked ferry across the Saigon River to the Pit Stop. As a result, they were forced to go back to the Road Block and complete it, and they became the final team eliminated from the race for their mistake.
6. In the beginning of Leg 12, teams needed to travel using which mode of transportation?

Answer: Train

Departing from the Cafe Thu Thiem, teams were instructed to make their way to the Saigon Train Station in Ho Chi Minh City where they could catch a train ride to the city of Hue. Once there, teams could find their next clue in the Vietnamese Imperial City at the Hien Lam Cac Pavilion, more than 400 miles from their departure point on this penultimate leg of the race. Teams departed from their Pit Stop near sunrise between 5:00am and 7:00am and arrived at the palace more than twenty-four hours after leaving Ho Chi Minh City.
7. In Leg 12, teams could choose between 'Basket Boats' and which of these tasks?

Answer: Basket Bikes

After leaving the Imperial Palace, teams made their way to a route marker sixty-five miles away in the town of Nam O Da Nang where they could find their Detour clue next to the town's bridge. In this Detour, teams had a choice between 'Basket Boats' and 'Basket Bikes'.

In 'Basket Bikes', teams needed to hop on a pair of bikes covered with large wicker baskets and ride about a mile down the road to their next clue box. Although they knew where to go, the bikes were cumbersome and difficult to maneuver and balance.
8. Which of these was the only team to complete the 'Basket Boats' Detour task?

Answer: Flo and Zach

In 'Basket Boats', teams needed to head down to the river and make their way to a number of round boats by the water's edge. Both members needed to take separate boats and paddle across the river to their next clue box and back with the clue. Teams would go only as fast as they could paddle though the clue box was in sight. Flo and Zach, although they attempted 'Basket Bikes' first, were the only team to finish this task...and only after Flo had someone else paddle her to the other side. Teri and Ian and Ken and Gerard finished 'Basket Bikes'.
9. Teri (of Teri and Ian) completed the Road Block task in Leg 12.

Answer: False

After the Detour, teams needed to make their way to the village of Hoi An. Upon their arrival, a set of marked sampans would be waiting for them to take them to the middle of the Thu Bon River. Once there, teams found the Road Block task, during which one member needed to hop onto a fishing platform, and using a winch pull a net containing their clue up from the bottom of the river. Once this was done, teams could remove their clue from underside. Ian, Ken, and Zach were the three participants in this Road block task.
10. Which team arrived at the twelfth Pit Stop of the race in first place?

Answer: Teri and Ian

After the Road Block, teams were told to make their way directly to China Beach, the final Pit Stop in the race. Once there, none of the teams would be eliminated as it would be the final of three predetermined non-elimination legs of the race. Teri and Ian, who placed first in the previous leg, were the first to arrive once more and they won a cruise vacation to Alaska for their troubles. Ken and Gerard pulled in in second place shortly behind Teri and Ian, and Zach and Flo, for the second time in the race, placed last at a non-elimination leg.
11. To which Hawaiian island did teams travel in Leg 13?

Answer: Oahu

Departing from the twelfth and final Pit Stop on China Beach in Vietnam, teams were told to go to Buddha's feet at the Quang Minh Temple in Da Nang. Once here, teams were told to depart from Vietnam and make their way back to the United States to Hawaii.

In order to get to Hawaii, thousands upon thousands of miles away, teams needed to take a seventeen hour train ride from Da Nang to Hanoi, Vietnam, and from there they needed to fly to Honolulu, Hawaii on the island of Oahu (via Tokyo, Japan). Teams then needed to drive twenty miles to their next route marker at Puaena Point.
12. In Leg 13, the Detour task was a choice between 'Quick Drop' or 'Slow Walk'. What did teams do in 'Quick Drop'?

Answer: None of these

After receiving a blessing from the Kahuna at Puaena Point in Haleiwa, Hawaii, teams were instructed to fly from Oahu (via a charter flight) to Kauai. Once on this Hawaiian island, teams needed to head twenty-five miles by car to Wailua Falls to find a Detour task awaiting them.

This task was a choice between 'Quick Drop' and 'Slow Walk'. In 'Quick Drop', teams needed to tandem drop down a zipline to the waters below the falls, then climb to the rocks behind the waterfall to get their clue. In 'Slow Walk', teams needed to take a marked path a much longer distance to the same route marker. All three teams, suffice to say, took 'Quick Drop'.
13. Which American city did teams discover held the finish line for the race?

Answer: Seattle

After finishing the Detour, teams needed to make their way to the airport and head 3,000 miles by plane to Seattle, Washington on the northwestern edge of the continental United States. Once in Seattle, teams would need to make their way fifteen miles from the airport to Kerry Park, overlooking the downtown core of the city, to find their next clue. Once obtained, this would send teams on foot to the International Fountain at the Seattle Center downtown (in front of the Space Needle) where teams would get their next bit of Route Info.
14. During the Road block in Leg 13, what race animal appeared at the top of the totem pole?

Answer: Donkey

Once at the International Fountain in Downtown Seattle, teams were told to take a taxi to Lincoln Park in West Seattle. Once there, teams could find their final route marker inside the forest. This box contained the race's final Road Block task which required that one member of each team shift the heads on a totem pole around until they reached a correct order.

This order would be identical to the order of the animals seen on the race: Donkey, Dolphin, Horse, Goat, Manatee. Zach, Ian, and Gerard completed this task and proceeded onwards with their final clue.
15. Which team was first to cross the finish line in "The Amazing Race 3"?

Answer: Flo and Zach

After the Road Block, teams were told to make their way to the Finish Line of the Race at Seattle's Gas Works Park. The first team to arrive would win the million. After an exceedingly close finish (separating teams by mere minutes), Flo and Zach were the first to arrive on the Finish Line mat and were crowned the official winners of "The Amazing Race 3", winning the million dollar prize.

They were followed only two minutes later by Teri and Ian and then soon after by Ken and Gerard.
