Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To which country did teams travel after leaving Australia?

Answer: Thailand

Teams departed from the Pit Stop at Lake Bennett in Northern Australia and were told to fly to Bangkok, Thailand. Once in Thailand, teams needed to take a taxi to the Mo Chit Bus Terminal and board a bus to Lopburi, a town 97 miles away. Once teams arrived at their destination, they needed to locate the Three Spire Pagoda to receive their next clue.
2. Which team obtained the Fast Forward in Leg 11?

Answer: BJ and Tyler

Once teams arrived at the Three Spire Pagoda, they had the choice of continuing on the main tasks of the race, or heading two mile to a local restaurant to obtain the Fast Forward. In the Fast Forward, teams needed to perform a task common in Thailand.

In this case, team members needed to eat one bowl of stir-fried crickets and grasshoppers each. Both Ray and Yolanda and BJ and Tyler went for the Fast Forward, but Ray and Yolanda left and allowed the hippies to sneak ahead. Since they received the second of two Fast Forwards in the race, they were able to go directly to the Pit Stop in Bangkok.
3. In the Road Block of Leg 11, what animal did team members need to prepare a feast for?

Answer: Monkeys

In order to obtain their clue, team members needed to prepare a monkey feast at the Three Spire Pagoda for monkeys, which are considered sacred. Teams needed to create a table full of fruits and other foods that mimicked a completed feast, then they had to carry the table over to the monkeys. Jeremy, Joseph, and Yolanda each completed this task.

After this, teams needed to head by taxi 90 miles to reach a ferry that would take them to Koh Kret Island for their next clue. The clue box was located in the Buddha Garden on this island.
4. Which Detour task was completed by the most teams in Leg 11?

Answer: Altar It

In Leg 11, teams could choose between the 'Move It' and 'Altar It' tasks. In 'Move It', teams had to carry clay pots a certain distance across Koh Kret Island to a boat, but to complete this, they had to carry the pots on wooden planks. Meanwhile, teams completing the 'Altar It' task had to paint and gold-leaf a Buddha statue and create a small shrine. Ray and Yolanda and Jeremy and Eric completed this task while Joseph and Monica completed the 'Move It' task.
5. Which team was eliminated in Leg 11?

Answer: Joseph and Monica

After the Detour task, teams were required to head to the Pit Stop eleven miles away at the Marble Temple in Bangkok. BJ and Tyler arrived in first place, by Ray and Yolanda (who arrived third), won the prize by randomly obtaining the correct hidden Travelocity gnome. Since they arrived in last place, Joseph and Monica were eliminated from the race, but the remaining three teams were in the finals.
6. Which country did teams fly to in Leg 12?

Answer: Japan

In the beginning of Leg 12, teams had to take a taxi from the Pit Stop at the Marble Temple to the Royal Kraal seventy-five miles away. Here, they needed to receive their clue from the nose of an elephant. Once the elephant gave them their clue on a T-Mobile Sidekick, they were told to head to Tokyo, Japan where they would need to head to downtown Tokyo for their clue. Once teams arrived in Shubuya, they needed to find a big-screen TV containing their next clue: "Find Hachiko".
7. How many teams completed the 'Maiden' Detour task of Leg 12?

Answer: Two

After finding Hachiko, the statue of a dog at the Shubuya intersection, teams received their Detour for the twelfth leg of the race. In this Detour, teams could choose between 'Maiden' and 'Messenger'. In 'Maiden', teams had to travel seven miles to a Japanese tea garden. Once there, they had to find a device used to transport royalty and carry a maiden a third of a mile to a tea ceremony. Once there, teams would receive their clue. Jeremy and Eric and Ray and Yolanda completed this task.
8. How many packages did teams need to deliver in the 'Messenger' Detour task?

Answer: Two

In the 'Messenger' task of the Leg 12 Detour, teams needed to find a street only two hundred yards away and assemble two bikes. They then had to ride the bikes in order to deliver two packages to locations nearby. Since BJ and Tyler were able to speak the language, they excelled in this Detour task and obtained their next clue, telling them to go to the Capsule Land Hotel in Shubuya, in good time. Once at the hotel, the teams needed to spend the night, and depart within a half-hour of each other the following morning.
9. Who did not complete the roller-coasting Road Block of Leg 11?

Answer: All of these team members completed the Road Block

After staying at the Capsule Land Hotel, teams had to drive eighty miles in the direction of Mt. Fuji in order to reach Fujikyu Highlands Park. Once there, teams obtained the Road Block, which required a member ready to 'coast' through their day. In order to finish the task, teams needed to ride three thrill rides in order to find a message held by a staff member under a rollercoaster. Once this phrase was said to the park manager, they would receive their clue. Tyler, Jeremy, and Yolanda took the rides for the clues.
10. Who was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Leg 12?

Answer: Ray and Yolanda

After the Road Block, the teams were instructed to head to the Pit Stop at Lake Yamanaka. In order to reach the mat, teams needed to drive eight miles to the lake and then ride swan boats to the large swan yacht on the lake. BJ and Tyler arrived in first and won a T-Mobile Sidekick with three months of free service, and they were followed by Eric and Jeremy.

The third and final team, Ray and Yolanda, were forced to give up their money and possessions during this final non-elimination leg of the race.
11. Which Alaskan city did teams fly to in the beginning of Leg 13?

Answer: Anchorage

In the beginning of the final leg, teams needed to travel by plane to Anchorage, Alaska. Once there, teams needed to find their marked cars containing a clue. Once teams landed in Alaska, they were met with cold weather and snow. Their clue in the car instructed teams to simply drive to Mirror Lake. This clue box contained the Detour.
12. The 'Drill It' Detour was completed by all three teams in Leg 13.

Answer: True

At Mirror Lake, teams completed the final Detour of the race. During the 'Drill It' Detour task, teams needed to take a manual drill and drill ten holes through the ice for ice fishing. After this, teams needed to push an ice fishing shack across the lake in order to cover two of their holes. Once teams had their ice shacks approved, they received their next clue. All three remaining teams completed this task. In the 'Deliver It' task, teams were required to load a bush plane with medical supplies and have a pilot fly them one hundred and fifty miles to an airfield.

They then had to unload the plane and receive their clue. None of the teams chose this task due to weather barriers. After the Detour, teams were instructed to drive to Kincaid Park and find the chalet at the entrance.

Here, they had to strap on some snowshoes and follow a map to their next clue.
13. What was the final destination city of the race?

Answer: Denver

When teams found the clue box in Kincaid Park, they were instructed to fly to Denver, Colorado, the starting location of the race more than three thousand miles away. Once in Denver, teams needed to take a taxi thirty miles to Clear Creek History Park in Golden, Colorado and search for their clue.

The clue here told teams to travel six miles by taxi to the Red Rock Amphitheater, the starting line.
14. How many flags did team members need to collect in the Road Block?

Answer: Nine

The clue at the Red Rock Amphitheater was the final Road Block. In this Road Block, teams needed to collect nine flags (one from each country in the race) from amongst a field of two hundred and eighty-five flags. Once team members placed the flags in the correct order, they had to run down a flagged path to the finish line. BJ and Eric finished this task, while Ray and Yolanda did not arrive on time.
15. Which team won "The Amazing Race 9"?

Answer: BJ and Tyler

After five continents, nine countries, and more than fifty-nine thousand miles, BJ and Tyler were able to surpass Eric and Jeremy and arrive at the Finish Line in first place! They were the winners of the million dollar prize and the title of the winners of "The Amazing Race". They were followed by Jeremy and Eric in second, and Ray and Yolanda in third place.

Congrats to 'the hippies'! TTOW!
