Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of Leg 5, teams flew from the Yukon to what Saskatchewan city?

Answer: Regina

Commencing Leg 5 in the city of Whitehorse, Yukon, teams were told to proceed on foot to the SS Klondike, a freight ship docked in the Yukon River, where they would find their clue somewhere aboard the boat. This clue told teams to fly to the city of Regina, the capital of Saskatchewan. To do this, teams needed to take a flight to Vancouver and then connect to either Edmonton or Calgary en route to Regina. Half of the teams arrived forty minutes before the rest. Upon landing teams needed to find their marked cars, open the clue in the glove compartment, and receive their next clue from a new Blackberry device.
2. During Leg 5 in Saskatchewan, two teams opted to take penalties instead of searching through piles of which material?

Answer: Lentils

After using their Blackberry devices, teams were given precise directions to their next destination: the Saskcan Pulse Trading Company. Once there they had to hop into the back of a double-binned truck and sift through several square feet of lentils to find two stuffed animals which, when combined, would direct them to the RCMP Heritage Center in Regina.

This task, especially in the prairie heat, proved to be a difficult one and two teams-- Holly and Brett and Hal and Joanne-- opted to take two hour penalties for leaving the task incomplete, both finishing the wait at the Pit Stop.

They had been searching for nearly three hours.
3. Who did not complete the RCMP Road Block task in Saskatchewan in Leg 5?

Answer: Hal

Heading to the RCMP Heritage Center, teams found a Road Block task in which one member had to organize and set up a small dormitory to the exacting RCMP standards. Jet, Tim Sr., Celina, Joanne, Brett, and Jody ended up completing this task although in many cases it took several attempts over several hours. Following this task, the teams had to find the 'I Heart Regina' sign in front of City Hall and dance with Ukrainian locals to receive their next clue sending them to a Detour at the home of the Roughriders-- Mosaic Stadium.
4. After the Roughrider-themed Detour task in Leg 5 (in Saskatchewan), did any of the teams use the Double U-Turn?

Answer: Yes

Heading to Mosaic Stadium, teams could either choose 'Brawn' or 'Beauty'. In 'Brawn', teams had to complete a series of football drills culminating in a caught touchdown pass by one team member and a successful field goal kick by the other. Any failed attempts would require a hot lap around the stadium. Jet and Dave, Hal and Joanne, Tim Jr. and Tim Sr., and Jody and Cory completed this one.

In 'Beauty', teams had to memorize a choreographed cheerleading routine including lifts, cartwheels, and dance steps. Holly and Brett and Vanessa and Celina did this one.

After the Detour, teams had to race up into the stands to the Luxury Box to find the Double U-Turn. After Tim Jr. and Tim Sr. U-Turned Hal and Joanne, the BodyBreak duo did the same to other penalized couple Holly and Brett.
5. Which team was eliminated in Saskatchewan at the end of Leg 5?

Answer: Hal and Joanne

After the Detour task, teams had to drive themselves to Pine Island to find their fifth Pit Stop. After another leg ahead of the other teams, Jet and Dave won their second consecutive leg, this time taking with them a trip for two to any Canadian destination courtesy of Air Canada.

As the teams checked in, it was Holly and Brett who were able to overcome the U-Turn the fastest despite intense fatigue. They checked in before Hal and Joanne who were eliminated in sixth place without needing to wait out their penalty.

The remainder of Brett and Holly's penalty would be added to their time at the start of the sixth leg.
6. In Leg 6, teams flew to which French-speaking city in Quebec?

Answer: Quebec City

Departing from Wascana Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan, the final five teams needed to take flights a great deal across the country to Quebec City, connecting through several options midway. Ultimately, teams arrived in the evening and late night, getting caught up waiting for their next destination to open.

The next morning, teams had to search the grounds of the Levis Forts National Monument in Levis, Quebec to find their next clue. At this point, all five teams were on even ground.
7. In Leg 6, teams choosing the 'Sculpt It' Detour task had a choice of three ice sculptures to make. Which was not one of them?

Answer: A cross

After finding their clue in Levis, teams had to take a ferry across the St. Lawrence River to the Chateau Frontenac to find a route marker in front of the statue of Samuel de Champlain. This was the Detour, and both options involved tasks in Old Quebec City. Teams choosing 'Sculpt It' had to create an ice sculpture based on an existing model (they had a choice between a star, a house, and a boat). Teams choosing 'Spot It' had to memorize missing items in a mural and match them up to French words. Jet and Dave, Vanessa and Celina, and Tim and Tim completed 'Sculpt It' while Brett and Holly and Jody and Cory chose 'Spot It'.
8. During the Road Block task in Leg 6, team members had to make what French food for customers?

Answer: Crepes

After the Detour task, teams needed to take a taxi to the Place de l'Université-du-Québec to find their Road Block task. Here, one member of each team needed to 'batter up' by taking two customers' orders, in French, for a total of four crepes-- two sweet and two savory.

They then had to make the crepes to the proper specifications, from scratch, and serve all of them with the proper ingredients at the same time. Dave, Holly, Cory, Vanessa, and Tim Jr. completed the task.
9. Before checking into the Pit Stop in Leg 6, teams had to play what Canadian sport?

Answer: Lacrosse

After their Road Block task involving crepes, teams' leg of the race wasn't yet complete. First, they needed to head to a marked field on the historic Plains of Abraham. Once there, after a little bit of practice, both team members needed to play a small bout of Canada's national summer sport, lacrosse. To do this they had to pass a shot to one another, then lob their respective catches into a net to receive their next clue sending them to the sixth Pit Stop.
10. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Leg 6?

Answer: Tim Sr. and Tim Jr.

After a quick game of lacrosse, the five teams needed to head to their next Pit Stop, The Battlefields Park on Avenue St. Denis overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Jet and Dave arrived in first place, shortly ahead of the other teams, to win their third consecutive leg of the race.

They ended up winning a trip for two to anywhere in Europe courtesy of Air Canada. After getting lost after their Detour, Tim Sr. and Tim Jr. slid back into last place, becoming the fifth team to step on the mat. They were spared once more by the race's second non-elimination leg.
