Answer: seven

The different challenges to solve are: Riddler maps, Riddler trophies, background analysis, Riddler question marks, Patient Interviews, Chronicles of Arkham tablets, and Joker teeth. These challenges can also range from fairly easy to solve to near impossible unless you know where to look.

2. These challenges are hidden all over Arkham Island, from atop the Arkham mansion to deep within the cave system. Exactly how many challenges are there to either solve or discover?

Answer: 240

There are a total of two hundred and forty Riddler challenges in the game, which ensures that one must travel to every corner of the island in order to hunt them down. Of course, it would go along much smoother if a Riddler map is in their possession...

There is one Riddler map for evey area of Arkham Island: Intensive Treatment, Arkham East, Arkam West, Arkham North, Medical Facility, Caves, Arkham Mansion, Penitentiary, and Botanical Gardens. Note: the maps may tell you what specific area that challenges are in, but not what type it is.

There are so many Riddler trophies that they account for over 40% of the challenges by themselves. Locations for all these Riddler trophies range from atop the Arkham Mansions' clock tower to underneath a waterfall deep within the cave system.

These puzzles may range from almost insulting one's intelligence (see above example) to just plain infuriating unless you know just where to look. These are also the second most populous challenge in the game, though it does require more wits than searching for a Riddler trophy.

There is exactly one of this challenge type for and in each area of the island. Despite the low number, some are hard enough that a Riddler map is needed just to figure out where to look.

The different patients that are reviewed via interview tapes are: the Joker, Scarecrow, the Riddler, Zsasz, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy. Most of the time, all the interview tapes of one person are in the same general area (e.x.: Poison Ivy tapes are all in the Botanical Gardens); however, there are exceptions with some characters, such as the Joker.

Unfortunately, the twenty-fourth and final Chronicle isn't involved with the Riddler challenges. In order to obtain the last Chronicle, the player must instead hunt down the one who really left these tablets all over Arkham Island (I'm not listing who it is here).

One sidenote: while most Joker teeth can be found just by progressing through the story, a few of them really need to be searched for in hidden locations. The best example are the three Joker teeth that are on the second floor of the Warden's office, inside the Arkham Mansion.

These WayneTech upgrades range from new combat moves (such as the Inverted Takedown and the ability to throw enemies) to new and improved gadgets (such as the Sonic Batarang and the Triple Batarang). Sometimes, the player must obtain an upgrade before another upgrade can be purchased (for example, the double Batarang needs to be purchased before the triple Batarang is available).

The characters for which there are bios range from obvious (Batman, the Joker), to well-known (Commissioner Gordon, Catwoman), to ones that only fans will be able to recognize (Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Calendar Man). As for the character trophies, they range from Batman and the Joker, to the Blackgate and Arkham inmates, to the Batwing and Batmobile.

There are a total of eight challenges for both types of challenge modes; also, half of these are basic challenges, while the other half are extreme challenges. Mastering one of these challenges will earn you three batarang challenges medals, making a total of forty-eight challenge medals to obtain in all!

The eight Riddler achievements are: Arkham Analyst (solve 5% of the Riddler challenges), Cryptic Investigator (solve 10%), Lateral Thinker (solve 25%), Mystery Solver (solve 40%), Conundrum Cracker (solve 55%), Mental Athlete (solve 70%), Riddle Resolver (solve 85%), and Crack The E Nigma (solve all the Riddler callenges).

Naturally, the achievements are in the order they must be obtained (you can't get "Crack The E Nigma" before getting "Arkham Analyst").

14. Another achievement for this game is called Perfect Knight, which requires you to complete the game to 100%. Do all of the Riddler challenges need to be solved in order to obtain this award?

Answer: yes

Sadly, you must solve all of the two hundred forty challenges on the island in order to obtain this award. However, that isn't all that would need to be done: the other requirements are to finish story mode, earn every medal in the combat and predator challenge modes, get all WayneTech upgrades, and get all of the character bios.

It is true that none of the Riddler challenges are missable; however, in order to complete the game, you must complete a certain Riddler challenge. It's a background analysis type that goes, "Don't cut yourself on this Sharply observed portrait"; the answer, of course, is the picture of Warden Quincy Sharp hanging on the wall.
