Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which resource in "Starcraft" is collected in a similar fashion to gold in "Warcraft III"?

Answer: Vespene Gas

Gold and Vespene Gas are collected in a similar fashion in that they both come from a mine. Only one worker can be in the mine at one time, so there is an optimum number of workers to have on any given mine depending on the distance between it and the main building.

In "Warcraft III", gold is the primary resource while in "Starcraft" it is the secondary. The wood in "Warcraft III" and the minerals of "Starcraft" also have similar gathering methods.
2. In "Diablo II", the characters use mana to power special abilities. What is the "Starcraft" equivalent?

Answer: Energy

"Diablo II" and "Warcraft III" each use mana to power spells, while the "Starcraft" equivalent is energy. Energy is used by many units in "Starcraft" and used to perform basic abilities such as Lockdown, Psionic Storm, Cloaking (which, when active, slowly depletes the user's energy), and others. Energy, like mana, is slowly replenished over time, and many units can have their total energy reserves boosted.
3. What do the Queen (from "Starcraft"), the Druid (from "Diablo II"), and the Archmage (from "Warcraft III") all have in common?

Answer: They can all create units.

The Queen has the ability to spawn Broodlings. The ability, when cast on an organic enemy, will slowly deplete their health until they die. Once the host is dead, two broodlings will hatch from its body. The Druid has an entire skill tree devoted to summoning, which includes the ability to summon ravens, wolves, and a bear.

The Archmage has the ability to create a water elemental to assist in battle.
4. Which of the following is a mutual transformation between the druids of "Warcraft III" and the druids of "Diablo II"?

Answer: Bear

In "Diablo II", the druids can transform into both a wolf and a bear. In "Warcraft III" there are two different kinds of druids: Druids of the Talon, which transform into storm crows, and Druids of the Claw, which can also transform into bears.
5. In "Warcraft III" there is a substance called Blight. What is the "Starcraft" equivalent of Blight?

Answer: Creep

In "Warcraft III", the Undead must build their structures on a substance called Blight, a material that covers and decays the ground it's on. It can be expanded by placing buildings near the edge of the blight. The Zerg require a similar rooting for their buildings called Creep.

It can also be expanded by creating buildings near the edge. Creep Colonies are especially good at expanding Creep. Other races cannot build buildings on Blight or Creep. When Zerg or Undead are on their Creep or Blight respectively, they regenerate hit points faster.
6. The Warden (from "Warcraft III") has the ability to Blink. The Sorceress from "Diablo II" has a similar ability. Under what skill tree is this ability?

Answer: Lightning

Each class in "Diablo II" has three skill trees, each of which focuses on a different kind of magic or set of abilities. The Sorceress' three skill trees are Fire, Cold, and Lightning. At level 18, provided the Sorceress already put a skill point into Telekinesis, she can learn the ability Teleport, which is in the Lightning skill tree.
7. Which game does not feature a Wraith?

Answer: All three games have Wraiths.

In "Diablo II" the Wraith can be found in a few dungeons, and looks very similar to Ghosts and Banshees, and other enemies of that sort. They generally have lightning based abilities. The Wraith of "Warcraft III" is merely a creep that looks like a white version of the Undead's Banshee.

It is similar to other creatures, again, such as Ghosts. Wraiths are meant to be killed in order to level up heroes, and they generally drop an item upon defeat. The Wraith of "Starcaft" is probably the best known.

It is a Terran flying unit (a fighter) that is fast, and has both an anti-ground attack and an anti-air attack. It also has the ability to cloak.
8. In "Diablo II", the Sorceress has an ability called Meteor. Which "Starcraft" unit has a similar ability?

Answer: Ghost

When Meteor is used, it takes a few seconds, but a meteor will soon come down on the targeted point, and explode, causing great damage to any units caught in the blast radius. The Terran Ghost has an ability called Paint Target, where they use rifle mounted lasers to "paint" a target for a nuclear strike (provided you have already built a nuclear warhead).

After a few seconds, the warhead will strike and severely damage buildings, and destroy units in its blast radius. Whenever a nuclear missile is launched, every player is warned that a launch has been detected, but not by who, or to whom it was directed.

Hearing the warning strikes fear in the hearts of most players as they frantically look for the little red dot that marks ground zero before the ten second timer is up. If a ghost is killed too soon after calling the strike, the attack will be aborted.

This is difficult, though, because a ghost can enable cloaking, and enemies require a detector unit to see and attack the ghost.
9. Infested Terran are similar to what "Warcraft III" unit?

Answer: Troll Batrider

Troll Batriders were introduced in the "Warcraft III" expansion. They're a flying unit with a primary attack best suited for destroying buildings. However, their true power is in anti-air attacks. They have an ability that sends them flying on a suicide mission against single air units. Most air units die when hit by a Batrider, but heavier ones, such as Chimeras and Frost Wyrms, require two.

The Infested Terran are fast moving Zerg units that are the same size as a marine (they are infested marines).

They move quickly and can deal great damage to all ground based units. The only problem is that if another infested terran is caught in the blast radius, it will also detonate, and its destructive force will be wasted. Grouping Infested Terran is normally not a good idea, as only one needs to die to set off a chain reaction (they have very low hit points).

They will also blindly attack any enemy that wanders close, and can damage your own buildings if used in your base.
10. What do the Wanderer ("Diablo II"), Kerrigan ("Starcraft"), and Arthas ("Warcraft III") all have in common?

Answer: They became corrupted.

None of the characters mentioned could fly. Only the Wanderer and Arthas were men, and only Kerrigan could turn invisible, on account of her being a Ghost.

At the end of "Diablo", the player character, known as the Hero, contained the Lord of terror in a Soulstone. The Soulstone was damaged, though, so the Hero (canonically the Warrior) plunged the stone into himself to forever keep the great evil at bay. He became the Wanderer. The constant battle with Diablo eventually took its toll on the Wanderer, and dark forces followed in his wake, starting by destroying the town of Tristram. The Wanderer eventually failed his task, and he was freed by his brothers to once again terrorize the land. In "Diablo II", the player was chasing the Wanderer to stop the spread of evil.

Kerrigan was a Ghost who started in "Starcraft" as a member of the Sons of Korhal rebel group. Theywere fighting the oppressive Terran Confederacy that ruled the local humans. The Confederacy had figured out how to lure Zerg to location, and were using the Zerg to crush uprisings. Mengsk, the leader of the Sons of Korhal, decided to use the Confederacy's own tactic against them. While the Zerg were being lured to the Confederacy's bases, Kerrigan was surrounded by Zerg, and Mengsk refused to attempt to rescue her. The Terrans initially thought that she had perished, but later found out that the Zerg had captured and infected her, turning her into one of their best resources.

Arthas was a Paladin of the Silver Hand, and the son of Terenas, the King of Lordaeron. His mentor was Uther the Lightbringer. He set about curing his land of a blight, that turned out to be linked to the Undead Scourge, and manipulated by demons. Arthas started taking extreme measures to contain the plague, starting with the slaughter of the citizens of Stratholme. Arthas learned that the Dread Lord Mal'Ganis was overseeing the spread of the plague, and followed the demon to the frozen continent of Northrend. At Northrend, Arthas sabotaged his own ships to prevent his troops from abandoning his mission, and then blamed the ships' destruction on mercenaries he had just hired. Arthas learned about a sword called Frostmourne, which had incredible power. He wanted the sword so he could defeat the demon Mal'Ganis and save his people. When Arthas had the sword, he became a pawn of the Lich King, the leader of the Undead Scourge. He received a hero's welcome when he returned to Lordaeron, but instead he killed his father, the king, and plunged Lordaeron into darkness.
