Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 'Whack-a-Goomba', what exactly is used to whack the Goombas?

Answer: A hammer

'Whack-a-Goomba' is the first mini-game played in the Story Modes. In this mini-game, you use your hammer to whack the Goombas which will pop out of pipes on each side of you. To hit them, you simply need to step on the arrow which corresponds with the pipes on the screen. For every Goomba you hit, you earn a coin.
2. In 'Whee!', what two arrows must you stand on?

Answer: Left and right

In 'Whee!', Mario is dropped from a tall height onto a trampoline. During this time, your feet should be planted on the left and right arrows. Once Mario reaches the trampoline, you have to time yourself so that you can make him fly back into the air.

The better you time yourself, the higher Mario flies, and the more coins he receives. This game is chosen randomly after completing one of the worlds.
3. What mini-game is found in World 1?

Answer: Flagpole Leap

You play 'Flagpole Leap' once in the first world, and then again before you head off to world 5 to chase after Bowser. The strategy to reach the top of the pole remains the same in both rounds. 'Whack-a-Goomba' is also found in World 1 while the rest are in different worlds.
4. How many treasure chests can you choose from in 'Hidden Treasure'?

Answer: Two

In 'Hidden Treasure', you'll need to choose between two treasure chests. One has one measly coin inside of it, and the other will contain twenty-five coins. Before you choose, the money will be placed in the chests and they will spin around to try and mix you up. To choose a box, use the left or right arrows to walk beneath one and press the up arrow to open it.
5. In 'Punch Up', who do you need to avoid hitting?

Answer: Toad

In 'Punch Up', you need to shoot Koopas and Koopa shells with giant fists. To shoot these fists, you use the left, right, and up arrows. Hitting multiple Koopas at once will earn you many points, but hitting Toad will paralyze you, much like a Spiny will in 'Banana Storm'.

After you shoot a fist, you need to wait for it to regenerate again. For every ten points you earn, you get a coin.
6. In 'Banana Storm', what do you need to avoid?

Answer: Spinies

In 'Banana Storm', your goal is to catch as many banana bunches as you can while they are being thrown down to you by monkeys. To move underneath the three monkeys, you use the left and right arrows. Occasionally, they'll trick you by not throwing a banana bunch down, and sometimes they'll throw Spinies at you. If you catch a Spiny, you'll be paralyzed for a few moments. For ever banana bunch you catch, you earn a coin.
7. Which arrow is not used in the 'Flagpole Leap' mini-game?

Answer: Down

In 'Flagpole Leap', you need to run Mario down a path and jump (with the up arrow) to reach the top of a flagpole. To accelerate, you use the left and right arrows, and when you get to the white line, you need to jump. If you don't jump, you run into the pole and you lose all of your coins.
This mini-game emulates the end-of-level goal in the original "Super Mario Bros." game for NES where Mario had to reach the flagpole to end the level.
8. What is the time limit in 'Chain-Chomp Chase'?

Answer: Ten seconds

Much like 'Flagpole Leap', you need to accelerate using the left and right arrows. As long as you stay out of the Chain-Chomp's mouth for ten seconds, the cash is as good as yours, but if you get eaten, prepare to suffer the consequences. This is possibly the shortest timed mini-game in the game.
9. How many notes are able to be picked up in 'Note Pickup'?

Answer: Thirteen

In 'Note Pickup', you have to pick up notes resting on pedestals. During the mini-game, you'll try and jump onto the pedestals and back onto a small platform which will carry you across the level. Along the way, you need to avoid spinning bars by jumping them with the up arrow, and you'll have to avoid a line-up of Bob-ombs by timing a perfect jump.

This game isn't played during the story modes, but you can access it in the mini-game menu.
10. In 'Fire Up the SS Brass', how many doors do you need to enter to reach the goal?

Answer: Fifteen

In 'Fire Up the SS Brass', Mario will be in the SS Brass, and you'll need to hit the arrows to make him fly through certain tunnels. Occasionally, all of the tunnels will be open, but when you get near them, all but one will close, so you need to be swift. If you miss a tunnel and hit a closed door or a wall, Mario and the SS Brass will explode (yes, I know.

It's tempting). Once you pass through the fifteenth door, you'll have reached the goal. This game needs to be unlocked before you play it. To unlock it, you need to have unlocked all of the previous mini-games.

This mini-game is not found in story mode, but like 'Note Pickup', it's in the mini-game menu.
