Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After going through the whirpool in World 2 you find an underground temple and go inside to find the second music key. However, it isn't easy to get it as you have to battle which underwater enemy?

Answer: Blooper

All of these are underwater enemies but a giant Blooper is guarding the Music Key. You have to dance to the song "Blooper Bop," which is based on the underwater theme of "Super Mario Bros." For those of you who are not familiar with Mario enemies, Sushi was the shark that prowled the seas in "Super Mario 64" in "Dire, Dire Docks." Unagi is the giant eel that guarded the second star in "Jolly Roger's Lagoon." Cheep-Cheeps are fish that can fly or just stay in the water and have been a staple in most "Mario" games.
2. Now you have two music keys! You head off to World 3 which is fashioned as an amusement park. In order to get into the actual amusement park you must find a way past the gate. What song do you dance to in order to get past the gate?

Answer: Hammer Dance

The Hammer Bros. just like in "Mario and Lugi: Superstar Saga" guard the gate to the amusement park and you must best them in a duel. "Hammer Dance" is based on the constant Hammer Bros. and Boomerang Bros. music you encountered in "Super Mario Bros. 3."
3. After getting past the gate you have the option of stopping at the store. Then you go to a roller coaster and see someone ride by with the third music key. You chase after the shady character on a roller coaster to a song called "Rollercoasting" which is based on a song from which game?

Answer: Mario Kart: Double Dash

This is an interesting stage because when Wario rides by, you hear the cars stop, so why do you get on the roller coaster? Oh well. Anyways the "Mario Kart" songs in this game are all based on "Mario Kart: Double Dash," with the exception of "Midnight Ride" which is based on of "Mario Kart 64."
4. When getting off the roller coaster, you run into a tent, thinking the shady character might have run into there. No luck but there's another mini-game (which means: coins)! You play a game called "Punch-Up" which is basically about you arming a big machine and punching which enemies?

Answer: Koopa Troopas

You'd be in real trouble if you were punching Bob-ombs. Koopa Troopas make their second appearance in the game, in this mini-game. There are Koopa Troopas, green shells, red shells, and Toads (why Toad got on the stupid field is beyond me). If you do happen to hit Toad, your punching machine is immobile for a brief period.
5. When getting out of the tent, you see the shady character run into a house. Toad assures Mario that the house is not haunted until he is chased by a Boo. You must then dance to chill the Boos down. In regular mode, not EX mode, which song do you dance to?

Answer: Boo Boogie

"Boo Boogie," is a song based on the awesome theme music of "Super Mario Bros. 2." The manor that the Boos lived in is based on of "Big Boo's Haunt" in "Super Mario 64." This is kind of odd because with the popularity of "Luigi's Mansion," it would seem like a more viable design. What is really ironic is that the song is based on "Super Mario Bros. 2" but Boos did not appear until "Super Mario Bros. 3."
6. Well you're still chasing after the shady character, which makes it seem like you're been doing a lot more running than dancing, and of course what happens next...another running game! A Chain Chomp comes up behind you chasing after Toad first, then after you, but doesn't chase Wario.

Answer: True

Chain Chomps, ever since "Super Mario 64", have been given a barking noise. This Chain Chomp is off his lead and you must constantly run in place on the left and right arrows to run away from the Chain Chomp. The mini-game is called, "Chain Chomp Chase."
7. You finally catch up to Wario, who is not about to let the Music Key out of his possession. He plans to use the Music Key for his newest adventure..."DDR: Wario Mix, It's an exploration of greed and treachery through stubby legs and interpertive dance." Mario and Wario battle to a song called "Starring Wario!" on what ride?

Answer: ferris wheel

Yes, you constantly dance on a ferris wheel in the song "Starring Wario!" which was based on Wario's first game on the Gamecube, "Wario World." No matter what rating you get, both you and Wario pant after the song is over. Wario then growls at you and promises that he will get the key back.
8. Now that you have three music keys, you are about to go to World 4 in the freezing cold. Toad says that you can't climb up the mountain because it's too slippery. You have to go down a pipe to get up the mountain. The background is strangely familiar to what other song?

Answer: Underground Mozart

The song in this stage is called "Frozen Pipes," and is based on "Old Folks at Home." The main goal of this stage is to jump out of the pipe, which is really confusing because didn't you jump in the pipe in the first place. Anyways, basically the same as "Underground Mozart" and "Pipe Pop." You are on a pedestal in front of a lot of enemies including Pirahna Plants and Mr. Blizzards.
9. After getting through the pipe, Toad complains again and says he is getting cold. Luckily, to put a stop to his whining there is a cabin nearby which again starts another song. This time you are dancing to a song called "Cabin Fever," which is based on which game?

Answer: Mario Party 5

Sadly this is the only song based on a "Mario Party" game. The song takes a while to get used to as it feels as if the arrows are on the off beat instead of on the beat, but it eventually starts to sync in.
10. Now that the storm has passed and you danced yourself warm again you start the only mini-game in this world. It's called "Avalanche!" Surprsingly, this is not the only "Mario" game that has contained a mini-game named "Avalanche!" Which other "Mario" game had the mini-game?

Answer: Mario Party 4

In "Mario Party 4" you had to ski down a slope while avoiding rocks, walls and jumping off ramps. In "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix," this game is closely related to the other mini-game "Banana Storm." Except instead of trying to catch something you're trying to avoid something which in this game are gigantic snowballs.
11. After avoiding the avalanche you finally reach the top of the mountain where a gigantic Freezie has the Music Key lodged in his head. Toad suggests you melt the Freezie with your hot dance moves. The Freezie doesn't like the sound of that and challenges you to a song called "Deep Freeze." Which song is "Deep Freeze" based on?

Answer: Fever from "Dr. Mario"

"Fever" from the popular puzzle game "Dr. Mario," is very upbeat and is usually the more popular of the two tunes. "Chill" kind of has a minor feel to it but it would be interesting to see it as a dance remix. "Fever" though is an awesome remix giving it a more techno feel like most of the other songs on this game.
12. OK, now you have the fourth Music Key...you have all four! Time for an easy trip home- or so it would seem. When you go down the mountain an avalanche starts chasing after you and of course you have to dance to stop it. The stage's name is based on a popular Christmas carol. Which carol is also the stage's name?

Answer: Sleigh Ride

"Sleigh Ride" is one of the Christmas carols that is more popular along with other such novelty songs such as "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer". The song "Rendezvous on Ice" is a very slow song which makes it fairly simple. There a few traps such as notes very close together, but the song overall is fairly easy to get an A rating on.
13. OK, now that you have all four music keys, you return to Truffle Towers. You play the game, "Flagpole Leap" again when returning to Truffle Towers. What is the maximum score you can get on this mini-game?

Answer: 5000

Depending on how you do, you get a hefty amount of coins. If you get the maximum score of 5000, you get fifty coins right in your wallet. This is one of the easier mini-games to collect coins.
14. Well the Music Keys are safe again, right? Wrong! What is a Mario game without Bowser? Bowser of course comes and steals the music keys and enters World 5. When you start coming in on Bowser's castle you are fired on by Bowser with a very popular Mario enemy. Which of Mario's enemies do you have to dance to avoid in the first stage of World 5?

Answer: Bullet Bills

Bullet Bills are fired at your ship during the song "Always Smiling." Banzai Bills were the humongous Bullet Bills in "Super Mario World." Paratroopas do not appear in this game.
15. The final battle is finally underway. Bowser challenges you to a dance-off. The song that he chooses is very appropriate to the dance off. What is the name of the song that Bowser challenges you to?

Answer: Bowsers Castle

"Bowser's Castle" is by far the hardest song in the game. "Bowser's Castle" was taken from the awesome game "Mario Kart: Double Dash". In "Mario Kart: Double Dash," the music is very slow and eerie. In "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" that's a completley different story! The remix of that tune is basically fusion rock and the arrows go by so fast it would almost make your head spin.
16. Ok at last Bowser is defeated, but why did Bowser take the music keys?

Answer: To cure his tone deafness

After Bowser admits this Mario uses the Music Keys to make the surroundings of Bowser Castle a beautiful field. It's a pretty awesome ending and Bowser actually gets a happy ending as some music is implanted in his soul and he dances a bit.
17. You're done with the game and instead of watching the credits you can dance along to a version of the "Super Mario Bros." theme music. The thing with the end song though is it is in Mush Mode. Which of the following Mush Mode obstacles does not appear in this song?

Answer: Cheep-Cheeps

All of these are parts of Mush Mode. Koopas also appear in this song. In Mush Mode these obstacles act as arrows or hindrances. With Goombas, Bullet Bills, and coins you have to stomp on them once. Koopas you have to stomp on twice. In regular Mush Mode, the coins do not appear, but they appear if you stomp on Mush Mode's coin switches.
18. You beat the game, but there's still more to do! After beating the game there's a new mode called EX mode. How many new songs are in Mush Mode, considering you don't buy the new ones in the store?

Answer: Six

The six new songs appear in every level except World 5. The new songs are based on various songs. Some are classical such as "Pipe Pop" which is an awesome disco version of "Turkish Dance." Others are based on old-school video game such as the one in the haunted house in World 3 which is based on "Donkey Kong Arcade."
19. There are four new songs you can buy at the store after completing the game once. The song bought from World 3 is based on which game?

Answer: Super Mario Bros.

The song called "Where's the Exit" is the secret song bought in World 3. This song is one of the classics as it is a dance based on the underground theme in "Super Mario Bros." The other three songs are based on "Lovely Meadow," "Super Mario World," and the "Famicon system," released only in Japan.
20. Your ship has been very faithful across your journey. What is the name of your ship?

Answer: S S Brass

The S.S. Brass can change into an airship, a boat, and a submarine. After getting all the songs, you get a new mini-game called "Fire Up The S.S. Brass." This is a very difficult game. There are four exits and you have to figure out which one the S.S. Brass should go through. I hope you enjoyed this quiz. Until next time this is SandK saying keep on dancing!
