Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to the newspapers, the voodoo is faked. Are the newspapers correct?

Answer: No

Gabriel never really believes what the papers say. When he shows the veve to Professor Hartridge, they both learn for sure that the voodoo is real. Hartridge hadn't been paying attention to the voodoo murders because of what the papers say, but he knows a real veve when he sees one.
2. In order to get into Madame Cazanoux's house, Gabriel must disguise himself as a priest. What else must he do that he hates?

Answer: Put gel in his hair

Madame Cazanoux will not see a priest who is poorly groomed. Therefore, Gabriel must put gel in his hair, as much as he hates to. He also must disguise his voice so he sounds like a real priest.
3. What does Gabriel learn from Madame Cazanoux about Marie Laveau?

Answer: She was not the real Voodoo Queen

Madame Cazanoux is the first to tell Gabriel that Marie Laveau was just a puppet for a very powerful Loa. The other three answers are either untrue information or they are information that Gabriel learns elsewhere (not from Madame Cazanoux).
4. According to Madame Cazanoux, the only true natives to New Orleans are what?

Answer: French

Madame's Cazanoux's family were among the original settlers of New Orleans, so she is a purist. She is saddened that there are very few French people left in New Orleans.
5. Madame Cazanoux says that voodoo practicers can send what kind of animal to kill you in your sleep?

Answer: Snake

The snake is the symbol of the voodoo cult. They use snakes to kill people in real life (this game's version of "real life" anyway) as well as in their dreams. Madame Cazanoux has a snake bracelet, which Gabriel needs a copy of. In one of the most obscure puzzles in the game, after asking Madame Cazanoux about everything and hearing what she has to say about "Cabrit Sans Cor'" she gives Gabriel her snake bracelet and asks her to bless it so that it won't attract any voodoo in her house. Gabriel does so, and makes a clay mold out of it with clay he got from the lake (the crime scene). Of course if this is your first time playing the game, you may not have the clay when you get to this part of the game. No one would blame you, because unless you used outside help of some kind (like a hint book or a walkthrough), how would you know to take clay from the shores of the lake? It isn't highly pixelated, and when you go there on day 1 there's no way to know that you need clay for later. Likewise, when you get to this part of the game, I have much respect for anyone who actually figured out this puzzle (without outside help and without just clicking everything on the bracelet until it worked) even if they had the clay mold. If you got to this point in the game, and without outside help you figured out that you need to go to the lake to get some clay for a clay mold, you're a genius.
6. What kind of mask does Gabriel buy at the Dixieland Drug store?

Answer: Crocodile

At the Dixieland drug store. Gabriel learns that St. John's Eve is in a few days. He learns that St. John's Eve is a major night in voodoo, so he figures there may be a voodoo ceremony run by the murderers on that evening. He learns from Professor Hartridge that people where animals masks to these ceremonies.

The only place Gabriel can find an animal mask is at the Dixieland Drug Store, where Wily Walker has one crocodile mask remaining. Willy Walker sells it for $100 and offers a free bottle of lucky gambling oil or a bottle of "Lover Come Back to Me" oil with every purchase over $50.
7. What does Gabriel do to get $100?

Answer: He sells his father's painting

Here's another similarity to "Quest For Glory" (well, sort of). The main character has to deal with an unfriendly man named Bruno. In this game, Bruno walks into the book store and offers to buy the painting for $100. Despite Grace's objections, Gabriel calls it a deal. Grace is furious about this, but Gabriel has to do this because he needs the money and Grace won't let him take money out of the cash register.

Besides, he likely didn't like the painting anyway. He long ago got tired of these images haunting the minds of him and his male ancestors.

His father probably would not have minded.
8. What game has Sam been losing to Markus constantly for the last twenty years?

Answer: Chess

At the Napoleon House, Gabriel meets a man named Sam. He learns from the bartender that Sam has been losing at chess to Markus for the last twenty years, that he is a jeweller, and that he believes in voodoo. Gabriel decides to help Sam out by giving Sam a lucky gambling oil that he got as a free gift when he bought the crocodile mask.

The oil somehow works (although I can't imagine how because there's no luck or gambling involved in chess) and Sam offers Gabriel a favor in exchange for helping him finally beat Markus at chess. That favor is to make a new bracelet for Gabriel just like Madame Cazanoux's bracelet.
9. Who visits the book store on night 3?

Answer: Malia Gedde

Prior to night 3, Malia did not seem to be interested in Gabriel. This is a surprise to no one. No one thought Malia would be interested in Gabriel because of his ego, his hair, his lack of money especially compared to the Geddes, and the fact that he just isn't all that attractive. On night 3, Grace gets an unpleasant surprise as Malia shows up at the door just as Grace heads out and tells her that she wants to see Gabriel. Grace tries to send her away, but Gabriel overhears them talking from his bedroom and lets Malia in. Malia's company prevents Gabriel from having a nightmare that evening.

If you answered Bruno, the key word in the question was "night." If you answered Uncle Wolfgang, the key word in the question was "visits." Lastly, Gabriel visits his grandmother not the other way around.
10. What does Gabriel learn on day 4 that makes him upset?

Answer: The police have closed the Voodoo Murders case

The first thing Gabriel does on day 4 besides wake up and drink coffee is read the paper and see that they closed the case. Gabriel is angry about this because they got nothing on the voodoo angle, so there's no way they could have caught the killers and they killers must be stopped. Detective Mosely tells Gabriel to prove that there's a voodoo cult in New Orleans, prove that they're a threat and get Mosely a lead on the cult. Gabriel proves that they're a threat with an article that he got from Grace.

He takes care of the other two things and gets the case reopened on day 5.
11. Who does Gabriel see from the Jackson Square overlook on day 4?

Answer: Crash

The one time in the game that you need to go to the Jackson Square overlook is day 4. There you can see a witness named Crash, who Detective Mosely tried to interrogate at the police station on day 3, talking to someone. If Gabriel tries to witness this from Jackson Square, Crash will just keep walking away from him. So Gabriel has to look at him from the overlook.

When Gabriel sees him, Gabriel decides to follow him. He finds him in the cathedral and decides to talk to him.
12. What happens after the witness tells Gabriel everything the game allows him to tell him?

Answer: The witness dies

Crash tells Gabriel that the voodoo cult know everything that's going on in town. They have Rada drummers all over town and they use their drums to communicate a code. He also tells Gabriel that you need to have a tattoo of a snake to get anywhere near the voodoo cult. After Crash tells Gabriel these things, the voodoo cult chokes him to death. Now you understand why he was so reluctant to tell anyone about anything he knew.

Gabriel CAN tell Mosely, but this is not required and doesn't accomplish anything.
13. What unsettling phrase does Gabriel hear the second time he visits the fortune teller?

Answer: Stay away from Malia Gedde!

The first time he visits the fortune teller he dances with her and returns her lost veil. Then she reads his fortune and says "Oh god beware BEWARE!" and runs off. When Gabriel comes back to visit her a second time, he hears a dark ominous female voice saying "Stay Away from Malia Gedde or you shall pay with your LIFE!"

The other two quotes don't come until later in the game.
14. How many Rada drummers are in the game aside from the ones you see at the ceremonies?

Answer: Four

There's a drummer at Jackson Square, there's one at the Voodoo Museum, there's one at the Napoleon House, and sometimes there's one at the police station. The one from whom Gabriel translates codes is the one at Jackson Square.
15. What does Gabriel do on night 4?

Answer: He goes to Malia Gedde's house

Gabriel ignores the warning he got from the fortune teller and goes to Malia Gedde's house on night 4. Not only does Malia NOT kill him, but she protects him from having a nightmare for the second straight night.
