Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to the game, voodoo was invented by which group of people?

Answer: African slaves

Dr. John says that voodoo was created from the African slave trade. It is a mix of African religions and Christianity. Eventually, slaves were able to gather in New Orleans and create their form of voodoo. Later in the game you learn that the slaves rebelled against and killed their white owners.
2. According to Dr. John, who was the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans in the 19th century?

Answer: Marie Laveau

Dr. John tells Gabriel what many people in New Orleans (in this game at least) believe, the voodoo queen of New Orleans was Marie Laveau. There were two Marie Laveaus, mother and daughter. Most people thought they were the same person, and that it what they wanted everyone to believe. Later, you find out that neither Marie Laveau was truly the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans and Dr. John probably knew that.
3. Who does Dr. John refer Gabriel to?

Answer: Magentia Moonbeam

When Gabriel asks Dr. John about current Voodoo, Dr. John refers him to a Voodooienne named Magentia Moonbeam so he can learn more about current voodoo. Dr. John says he's more interested in the history of voodoo than in current voodoo.
4. To kill someone, steal that person's sock or shoe, put graveyard dirt in it, and bury it under their front steps. This is an example of what?

Answer: Gris Gris

Magentia Moonbeam gives you several examples of gris gris. Another example she gives is based on the fact that a child must have all its hair before it can die. Therefore, to ensure the safety of you child, cut a lock of its hair.
5. Gabriel meets a beautiful woman who was at the crime scene when Gabriel went there to collect evidence. Who is this?

Answer: Malia Gedde

When Gabriel goes to the crime scene, Malia Gedde drops by. She mainly talks to Mosely, but Gabriel sees her and overhears the conversation. Gabriel then gets Grace to look up her address. Grace thinks Gabriel asked her to do this solely because Malia is gorgeous. Grace is correct in believing that is one reason, but Gabriel really does believe that Malia may have some connection with the voodoo murders.
6. What two people does Gabriel meet at the Dixieland Drug Store?

Answer: Willy Walker and Madame Cazanoux

The Dixieland Drug Store is actually a voodoo shop. It operates under a misleading name and Willy Walker insists that what he sells are just curiosities, not actual voodoo. However, when Gabriel sees Madame Cazanoux there and overhears the conversation between her and Willy Walker, it becomes clear to him that the Dixieland Drug Store is a voodoo shop.
7. What is the name of Madame Cazanoux's dog?

Answer: Castro

On day 3, Gabriel tries to get in touch with Madame Cazanoux via phone to learn more about Voodoo. Cazanoux tells him nothing over the phone. However, Gabriel hears that she has a dog who she calls Castro. He then calls the vet and gets the address for Madame Cazanoux's house from the vet by telling the receptionist that Castro has missed three danced lessons.

The vet believes him because he mentions Castro by name.
8. What are Voudoun spirits called?

Answer: Loa

A Loa is a ghost that possesses a human body during a voodoo ceremony. The Loa controls that person, and that person's body merely becomes a vessel for the Loa. This is important to know, because you learn that Marie Laveau was NOT the voodoo queen of New Orleans and more importantly, you learn that the current voodoo queen is not who people think either. They are all possessed by a Loa, and that Loa has been the true Voodoo queen of New Orleans for 300 years.

All of the wrong answers are specific examples of Loa.
9. Who is the serpent god in voodoo?

Answer: Damballah

The voodoo cult in this game are huge snake worshippers, so if you want to beat this game, it's important to know the name of the snake that they worship. Showing the kind of respect for snakes that this voodoo cult wants you to have could mean the difference between life and death someday.
10. Who is the lord of destruction?

Answer: Ogoun Badagris

The worst Loa of them all is Ogoun Badagris, who Dr. John calls "The destroyer of men." If you don't figure it out right away, you will certainly learn later in the game that Dr. John really should have said "the destroyer of HUMANS," not just "men." There is a kid who gets voodoo-choked to death in this game and there is a woman who can get killed by the cult.
11. What is a voodoo temple called?

Answer: Hounfour

A voodoo hounfour is built as a ring within a ring. There is an outer circle that has twelve rooms, each room marked with a number of snakes from 1 to 12. And then there's the inner ring, where the ceremonies take place. The Knight family has seen the ring within a ring image both in their dreams and in real life.
12. What is the name of the knife they use in voodoo rituals?

Answer: Kubhasah

Knowing the name of the knife isn't important. The knife is interesting because you see it in Gabriel's nightmare.
13. What is the name of the whip they use in voodoo ceremonies?

Answer: Fwet Kash

Magentia Moonbeam said that the message on the tomb had the words "Fwet Kash." to her, it made no sense; the best translation she could come up with is "fresh cash." She thought the writer of the message wasn't very good at writing in that language. At Professor Hartirdge's lecture at Tulane University, you learn that the "Fwet Kash" is the ritual whip.
14. What is the name of the coffin used in voodoo rituals?

Answer: Sekey Madoule

There is a Sekey Madoule in the voodoo museum. Dr. John isn't going to tell you that it's called a Sekey Madoule, so you better remember this piece of information from the lecture.
15. What does "Cabrit Sans Cor'" literally mean in English?

Answer: Goat Without Horns

"Goat Without Horns" is the literal translation of "Cabrit Sans Cor'." However, the term really means a human being. Usually animals are sacrificed in voodoo rituals, but sometimes the gods demand a human being. When that happens, the gods refer to the human as a "Goat Without Horns."

If you answered "Man Without Heart," the key word in the question was "literally."
