Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which is Charizard's biggest weakness type-wise?

Answer: Rock

Charizard is a Fire/Flying-type Pokemon and thus:

Takes x0 damage from Ground-type attacks
Takes x1 damage from Ice-type attacks
Takes x2 damage from Water-type attacks
Takes x4 damage from Rock-type attacks

Charizard is also weak to Electric-type attacks, but like with Water-type attacks, it only takes x2 damage from them.
2. Which of the following is NOT a Posion-type Pokemon?

Answer: Gligar

Crobat: Poison/Flying
Gengar: Ghost/Poison
Gligar: Ground/Flying
Venomoth: Bug/Poison

Still, Gligar is able to learn a few Poison-type attacks, including the most powerful one, Sludge Bomb.
3. Which of the following statements is TRUE?

Answer: Kingdra, Lanturn and Parasect all resist Water-type attacks

Weezing takes super-effective damage from Earthquake.
Scizor takes neutral damage from Fighting-type attacks.
Electric-type Pokemon are hit by Thunder Wave.

Everything else is correct.
4. Assuming both Pokemon are at level 100, coming from Lanturn, which of the following attacks will damage Kingdra the hardest?

Answer: Thunderbolt

Since both Pokemon are at level 100, we can approximate damage values this way:

Thunderbolt has 95 BP, STAB, and is neutral to Kingdra -> 142.5
Surf has 95 BP, STAB, and does x0.25 damage to Kingdra -> 35.6
Ice Beam has 95 BP, and is neutral to Kingdra -> 95
Hidden Power [Dragon] has 70 BP, and is super-effective against Kingdra -> 140
5. Which of the following statements is TRUE?

Answer: Poison-type attacks are not very effective against Ghost-type Pokemon

Bug-type attacks are neutral against Ground-type Pokemon.
Grass-type Pokemon have five weaknesses: Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug.
Flying-type attacks are not very effective against Electric-type Pokemon.
6. Which of the following moves has the lowest accuracy?

Answer: Poison Gas

Poison Gas: 55% acc.
Hypnosis: 60% acc.
Blizzard: 70% acc.
Mega Kick: 75% acc.

Poison Gas is totally outclassed by Toxic, which boasts an accuracy of 90% and inflicts Bad Poison (which increases the damage progressively until the poisoned Pokemon switches out) instead of Normal Poison.
7. Which of the following moves will hit if used against Nidoking?

Answer: Leech Seed

Nidoking is part Ground-type so it's immune to Electric-type attacks (Spark, Thunder Wave).
It is also part Poison-type, so it's immune to the Poison status (Toxic inflicts Poison).
Leech Seed, however, affects every Pokemon that is not Grass-type.
8. How many turns does the attack Encore last?

Answer: 2 to 6

Encore is an attack that forces the opponent's Pokemon to repeat the attack it last used for two to six turns.
If you manage to catch your opponent using non-damaging moves such as Curse, Mean Look, or Swords Dance, or any other move you can take advantage from, Encore could prove out pretty useful.
9. What happens when either SelfDestruct or Explosion is used?

Answer: Foe's Defense stat is halved during the damage calculation

The foe's Defense stat is halved during the damage calculation.
As it was impossible to make a move have over 255 Base Power using only one byte, that was the solution to make these two moves extremely powerful. SelfDestruct effectively reaches 400 Base Power; Explosion is even more powerful, effectively reaching 500 BP after the Defense is halved.
10. The DVs or Diversification Values are inherent to each Pokemon and affect the stats of the Pokemon. The HP DV is determined by the DVs of the other stats. If Pokemon A has an Attack DV of 11, a Defense DV of 14, a Speed DV of 6, and a Special DV of 7, which is its HP DV?

Answer: 9

The HP DV is calculated the following way:

if Attack DV = Odd -> HP DV += 8
if Defense DV = Odd -> HP DV += 4
if Speed DV = Odd -> HP DV += 2
if Special DV = Odd -> HP DV += 1

Thus, there is a 1/65536 chance to find a Pokemon with all its DVs maxed out.
