Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many different boards are available to party on?

Answer: Eight

You start the game with only six boards, one for each character: Mario's Rainbow Castle, Luigi's Engine Room, Peach's Birthday Cake, Yoshi's Tropical Island, Wario's Battle Canyon, and DK's Jungle Adventure. After you've played on all six of these, you may buy Bowser's Magma Mountain from the Mushroom Shop for 999 coins. Also, after you collect 100 stars in the bank, and play it once, you will be able to play on the Eternal Star board, for a total of eight boards. Each board has its own unique rules and events.
2. Which of these is NOT an item you can buy from the Mushroom Shop?

Answer: Screw Block

The Casino Box can be bought for 300 coins, and it allows you to bet and get either double, half, or the same amount of your coins in the Bank after every game.
The Speed Block can be bought for 200 coins, and when activated, it randomly appears instead of the normal Dice Block. This block only contains numbers 8-10.
No Koopa only appears after you've completed the Eternal Star board once (along with No Boo and the Credits). When activated, Koopa will not appear on the boards.
3. How does the game decide which type of mini-game is played at the end of each round?

Answer: The spaces the players landed on

The boards contain both blue and red spaces, and the spaces the players are standing on determine the type of mini-game played at the end of the round. If all four players are on blue spaces (or all four are on red spaces), a 4-player mini-game is played. If one player is on a different color space than the other three, a 1 vs. 3 mini-game is played. If two players are on blue and the other two are on red, a 2 vs. 2 mini-game is played.

As for the 1-player mini-games, those are played when a player lands on a Mini-Game Space (with a star). Yup, you even have to watch the computer play them. Mushroom Spaces (if you picked a Poisonous Mushroom), ! Spaces, and Mini-Game Spaces count as blue, Bowser Spaces count as red, and green ? Spaces are randomly either red or blue.
4. What color are the lowest limbo poles in "Limbo Dance"?

Answer: Red

"Limbo Dance" is a 1-player mini-game that involves you jumping under a series of colored limbo poles, to a catchy tune of drum beats. The key is to time your leaning back and jumps to fit under each pole, while taking care you don't fall completely backwards (and lose).

The poles come in three colors: blue (highest), yellow (midrange), and red (lowest). If you can make it to the end without knocking over a pole or falling, you win 10 coins.
5. What is the first mini-game in World 5 on Mini-Game Island?

Answer: "Cast Aways"

"Cast Aways" is a 4-player bonus mini-game, in which players cast their fishing rods out into the ocean where coins, moneybags, and treasure chests float by. Moneybags contain 5 coins, and treasure chests contain 10 coins. Since this is a bonus mini-game, no one actually "wins", and everyone gets to keep all the coins they collect.
"Desert Dash" is a 2 vs. 2 mini-game. Each team of two is cross-country skiing across a desert, by syncing up their presses of the Control Stick. Aside from the Thwomp at the midpoint, it's a straight course. The first team to the finish line wins (10 coins each, while taking 10 from each player on the losing team).
"Ghost Guess" is a 1-player mini-game. The player is surrounded by a group of Boos, who move in a set fashion. One Boo, the "leader", moves before the others, and the object of the game is to guess that Boo. You only get one guess, but if you're right, you win 10 coins.
"Coin Shower Flower" is a 1 vs. 3 bonus mini-game. The one player is placed on top of a giant flower, while the other three are placed in the river down below on little leaf-boats. Coins fall from the sky onto the flower, and the lucky guy on top gets the first shot at them. The other three players simply paddle their boats around the river, and pick up the few coins the top player misses.
6. What effect do the ? Spaces have in Bowser's Magma Mountain?

Answer: They turn all the blue spaces red for two turns

Effects of the ? Spaces in each level:
Mario's Rainbow Castle- switches Toad and Bowser in the tower
Luigi's Engine Room- Some switch the red and blue doors, some "burn" the player up to a higher path
Peach's Birthday Cake- Allows the player to buy a Piranha Plant "property" on a space for 30 coins, stealing a star from the first player to land on it.
Yoshi's Tropical Island- Switches Toad and Bowser on opposite islands
Wario's Battle Canyon- Changes the direction and targets of the cannons
DK's Jungle Adventure- Causes all players in a certain path to be chased to the bottom of the board by a giant boulder
Bowser's Magma Mountain- All blue spaces turn red for two turns
Eternal Star- Sends all players back to the start. Bowser can change the destinations of the warp points if a player passes him.
7. Which of these mini-games does NOT require you to rotate the control stick?

Answer: "Skateboard Scamper"

"Skateboard Scamper" (a 4-player mini-game) does not require you to rotate the control stick, but it requires you to press B repeatedly to skate. The players race on skateboards across a rapidly crumbling platform, while jumping over obstacles. The first player to the finish line wins 10 coins.
"Pedal Power" is a 1-player mini-game. The player is on a bike generator trapped in a small room with a Boo. Rotate the Control Stick to pedal. If you can light up the lightbulb before the Boo reaches you, you win 10 coins.
"Paddle Battle" is a 1 vs. 3 mini-game, in which all the players must rotate the Control Stick to paddle the boat, and hopefully drive their opponents onto the shore. If you rub against the shore, native Shy Guys spear the players on that side of the boat, sending coins to the other side.
"Tug O'War" (a 1 vs. 3 mini-game) is just that: a game of Tug O'War, in which you rotate the Control Stick to pull the rope. The only difference is the teams are placed on opposite sides of a pit containing a deadly Piranha Plant, and the one player wears a Bowser suit. The winning team steals coins from the losing players.
8. How many Boos appear in the game (on all boards including secret boards count)?

Answer: Eight

There is one Boo on every board, with two exceptions. Peach's Birthday Cake lacks a Boo (probably because of the Piranha Plant "property" feature), and DK's Jungle Adventure contains two Boos.
9. Which of these 1 vs. 3 mini-games benefits the three players, as opposed to the one player?

Answer: "Bash N' Cash"

In "Bash N' Cash" the one (helpless) player is dressed in a Bowser suit, and the other three must whack the Bowser player with giant hammers, knocking out their coins. The three bashers (and the bashee) retrieve the coins as they bounce around the arena.
"Bowl Over" is a bowling mini-game. The one player throws a Koopa shell down a bowling lane, where the other three players (nearly helpless) are disguised as three of the pins. If the one player hits a player pin, he or she takes their coins, with an additional coin thrown in for each "normal" pin hit. If the shell touches the sides of the lane, the player loses.
"Crane Game" involves the one player controlling a crane, while the other three (again nearly helpless) players turn into little "prize dolls", along with a coin, a moneybag, and a treasure chest. The crane operator must grab either one of the coin items or a player "prize" and bring it back to the pipe. If a player is dropped into the pipe, the crane operator steals 1/3 of their coins.
In "Tightrope Treachery" the one player must walk across a tightrope over the ocean, while the other three are in boats and must shoot cannonballs to try to knock off the player on the tightrope. This game benefits the one player because the walker has the easier task of walking to the goal line, while it's quite difficult for the boaters to knock off the walker.
10. Which of these is NOT a bonus star at the end?

Answer: Block Star

Three additional stars are given out at the end of every game. The Game Star goes to the player who won the most coins in mini-games, the Coin Star goes to the player who had the most coins at any given time, and the Happening Star goes to the player who landed on the most ? Spaces. These stars can sometimes help a losing player to get ahead.
11. How many coins does a Star cost?

Answer: 20 coins

The object of the game is to collect the most stars, though coins are also a factor. Players can buy stars from Toad for 20 coins apiece. The only exception is the Eternal Star board. Here, players first pay 20 coins, then they must beat a Koopa Kid in a dice-rolling competition to win the star (losing causes the player to lose a star). Luckily, your Dice Block contains the numbers 8-10, so it's not too hard to defeat the Koopa Kid.
12. Which classic arcade game is re-enacted in a mini-game?

Answer: Whack-a-Mole

The game is "Whack-a-Plant" and it's a 1-player bonus mini-game. The player goes to a room of pipes, where Piranha Plants pop up periodically, similar to the moles in the classic game Whack-a-Mole. Every time the player jumps on a Piranha Plant, he or she receives a coin. An additional plant appears each round, for a total of eight plants in the final round. String jumps together and see how many plants you can jump on.
13. What animal appears in the Option House to test sound effects?

Answer: A parrot

After the Talking Parrot is purchased from the Mushroom Shop for 50 coins, he appears in the Option House. You can use him to hear random sound effects from the game.
If you guessed a Shy Guy, you can also buy the Mecha Fly Guy for 100 coins. This activates a game in the Mini-Game House where you can practice your Control Stick rotating.
14. Which of these mini-games is NOT a 4-player mini-game?

Answer: "Deep Sea Divers"

"Deep Sea Divers" is a 2 vs. 2 bonus mini-game. In the same vein as the 4-player mini-game "Treasure Divers", players must dive down and bring up the treasure chests in the ocean. The only difference is the players are split into teams, and each team has a diver and a reeler. The diver swims down to grab the chests, while the reeler reels the diver back in after they pick up a chest.
"Mushroom Mix-Up" sets the players on a group of colored mushrooms, while Toad stands off to the side with colored flags. When Toad holds up a flag, players must go to the mushroom of that color. The other mushrooms sink into the sea, and any player who falls in is out. The last player left wins 10 coins.
"Platform Peril" involves the players jumping across platforms floating in the sky, which fall after being jumped on. The first player to the last platform wins 10 coins, though players can also retrieve coins and moneybags along the way.
"Buried Treasure" is a Dig Dug-style mini-game where players must find a treasure chest hidden underground by digging through the dirt. They can also uncover arrows pointing in the direction of the treasure. The first player to find the chest wins the 10 coins inside.
15. Which of these can never happen on a Bowser Space?

Answer: 100 Star Present

When a player lands on a red Bowser space, it triggers a roulette where Bowser chooses a random evil event. All the players may be drawn into the "evil" version of one of four mini-games: "Balloon Burst", "Face Lift", "Bash N' Cash", or "Tug O'War". When these games are played from a Bowser Event, the winners get nothing, while the losers have to give coins to Bowser.

Other possible events include Coins For Bowser, where the player must do just that: pay coins to Bowser, and "Bowser's Chance Time", which is just like "Chance Time" on the ! space, except it always involves one player giving coins to Bowser. Although "100 Star Present", "1000 Coin Present", and "Star Steal" sometimes appear in gold writing on the roulette, they are never actually selected (sorry).
