Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the Horde outpost in Desolace?

Answer: Shadowprey Village

A coastal town, this small fishing outpost sits on the western coast of the Desolace nestled in the cliffs adjacent to the sea. Although strictly a Horde outpost, it's quite quaint, containing a few different trainers and trading NPCs. A number of quest-givers here will allow Horde players to explore the southern and western regions of the zone with good reason while some will provoke players to travel into the zone's sole instance, Maraudon. Shadowprey Village contains a flightpath location which connects to a number of locations along the western side of Kalimdor.
2. Nijel's Point is in which region of Desolace?

Answer: North

Nijel's Point is one of the larger occupied areas in the Desolace, and it's the Alliance town for the zone. Containing the area's Alliance quest-givers, a flightpath location, and inn and more, it's the one-stop location for traveling players. To reach it, players can come down from the north in Stonetalon Mountains and take the path a short distance south.

It should be on the right-hand side. Both Night Elves and Humans call this town home. Nijel, who the town was named after, seemingly never existed.
3. Sargeron is overrun with which types of creatures?

Answer: Satyrs

Just when you thought demons wouldn't be infesting the area, a small walk into Sargeron has proven you wrong on all accounts. This area in the northeast of the Desolace is darker than the rest with good reason- Satyrs from the Hatefury clan have invaded and you'll need to fight Tricksters, Betrayers, Felsworn, Hellcallers, Rogues, and Shadowstalkers from this group before your time in Desolace is up. Sargeron wasn't always the name of this location. Before the Satyrs overtook it, it was the ruins of a Night Elf town destroyed (like much of the rest of the Desolace) during a war.
4. The Magram Centaur tribe is the smallest in the zone.

Answer: False

The Desolace is the home of the Centaur race, and although they can be found in surrounding zones many different locations in Desolace are villages for this species in the "World of Warcraft". Although most of the Centaur tribe fight amongst each other on the plains of this barren zone, it's not often seen.

Instead, a fair number of your own quests will probably be spent scouring the villages along the eastern half of the area. You can choose which clan you want to affiliate yourself with. Magram Village is the furthest southeast of the camps on the oddly-coloured lakes found there.

The Kolkar tribe, found slightly north of Magram, is the smallest.
5. Shadowbreak Ravine is home to which Orc group?

Answer: Burning Blade

Hiding in behind the cliffs lining one border of Magram Village, Shadowbreak Ravine is the southeastern-most location in the Desolace, and it's perhaps the most unnecessary area for most players. The only instances in which players will come here are to explore the entire zone, the kill Ley Hunter creatures for their brains (something which can be done throughout most of the Desolace), and to complete one step of a Mage quest chain started by Tabetha in Dustwallow Marsh.

The Burning Blade members can also be found in Thunder Axe Fortress in the north of Desolace as well as locations in The Barrens and Durotar.

They are not a 'nice' group of NPCs...
6. Ghost Walker Post overlooks which major area of Desolace?

Answer: Kodo Graveyard

Ghost Walker Post is a small, small outpost run by Tauren in the center of the zone. Because this encampment is the Horde's defensive headquarters in regards to the other, more hostile groups of the south and west clans, the bare minimum services exist here.

There is no flightpath in the town; the closest is Shadowprey Village. In addition, the town contains no inn and only a single trader. A few quest NPCs can be found around the area, but none as much as Shadowprey. The Kodo Graveyard to the south is home to a large number of elderly Kodo.

This Boneyard extends a fair bit of the map, but there are are no hostile Kodo unless you attack them.
7. Smeed Scrabblescrew hands out the 'Kodo Roundup' quest for all players. How many Kodo do you need to collect for this?

Answer: Five

The sole NPC found at the remote Scrabblescrew's Camp, Smeed Scrabblescrew is a neutral goblin with a little errand to run. Using the Kodo Kombobulator, you can persuade the aged Kodo creatures found in the area and around the nearby Kodo Graveyard to follow behind. Once Smeed gets five of these creatures in his reach, he'll reward you. Scrabblescrew's Camp is found to the east of Ghost Walker Post and slightly northeast of Mannoroc Coven. Following the path down and around from Sargeron will inevitably push you in the right direction.
8. Ethel Rethor is on the coastline of the Desolace. What island is further to the west than this?

Answer: Ranazjar Isle

Ethel Rethor is a quiet area overlooking The Veiled Sea to the west. Oddly, it's one of the few areas in the the zone which has vegetation as opposed to a stark, barren landscape. The Argent Dawn is situated here with one member holding a small post on the cliffs overlooking the sea. Like Ranazjar Island slightly to the northwest (across from the Sartheris Strand), the underwater ruins of Ethel Rethor justoff the coast are swarming with Naga, and players will find themselves facing off against these high-level-30 creatures if they swim too deep looking for quest items or treasure. An Azshara statue is found on this small island amongst ruins and rubble.
9. The Desolace connects to Stonetalon Mountains to the north. What zone borders to the south?

Answer: Feralas

There are only two ways of walking in and out of the Desolace. Players of a lower-level, most probably, will be entering the zone from the north in Stonetalon Mountains. Running through the Charred Vale, players will emerge in Tethis Aran in the northern cliffs near Nijel's Point. Players of a much higher level will probably go through the opening in the southern cliffs connecting to the north end of Feralas near the Twin Colossals, a duo of tall mountains in the lush jungle forests to the south.

This zone contains a much larger level range, and players will find themselves coming here much later in the game. Either way, flightpaths from the Desolace lead to Alliance and Horde towns in both zones.
10. Maraudon can be found at which of these locations?

Answer: Valley of Spears

A five-man dungeon for players from level 40 to 50, Maraudon is a rather large instance (the only instance in all of the Desolace) set in a deep cave system. One of the earliest instances to be released after the initial 'vanilla' version of "World of Warcraft", Maraudon appeared as part of a major patch (1.2).

The final boss, the (let me assure you) beautiful Princess Theradras, leads her hordes of centaurs and satyrs to protect the area within. Players generally split the dungeon into more than one piece with one side being 'The Orange Side' and the other being 'The Purple Side'. Both of these contain a number of quest objectives, most of which can be found within the Desolace, but some of which can be found elsewhere in Kalimdor (ie. Theramore Isle, Orgrimmar, etc.).
