Following the popular 60s thread,I've decided to post a thread on the best songs of the last half century.

These songs can be from any genre(rock, pop, folk, jazz)and can be singles, from albums etc.

Here's my Top Ten(1960-2010)

1) Hey Jude-The Beatles

2) Imagine-John Lennon

3)Satisfaction-The Rolling Stones

4)House of the Rising Sun-The Animals

5)Love Her Madly-The Doors

6)Revolution-The Beatles

7)The Jean Genie-David Bowie

8)Baba O'Riley-The Who

9)In My Life-The Beatles

10)Both Sides,Now-Joni Mitchell

This is a provisional list and may change;you can post as many lists as you want. After a couple of months I'll call for FINAL lists and I will compile the Top 50 songs for the past 50 years(points 10-1st;9-2nd etc.)

What are your top ten songs?

And I agree with Redwaldo about Gerry Rafferty, who was a genius.

Here's my second list. Addictive this, isn't it?

1961 The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Take Five

1962 B. Bumble & The Stingers - Nut Rocker
Better than I realised when it was in the charts.

1972 Stealers Wheel - Stuck In The Middle With You
(I have no idea what the picture of Bob Dylan is doing there. I didn't want to post the official video because it would put you off eating ever again.)

1975 Steeleye Span - All Around My Hat
Love this voice too.

I don't think I'd be able to decide on just ten songs, but I will tell you that one of the best songs I've ever heard in my entire life is "Miss American Pie" by Don McLean. The meaning behind the song makes it even more heartfelt & special to me. I've loved this song since I was 5 years old & always will. It means a lot to me & is so unforgettable. There are just no words to describe what this song means to me & how it makes me feel. Long story! I'll treasure it forever.

An impossible task, indeed! I'll probably have to revise this list later, but here it is off the top of my head and in no particular order:

A Day in the Life ~ The Beatles
About 90% of the Beatles canon
Imagine ~ Lennon
Satisfaction ~ The Stones
Like a Rolling Stone ~ Dylan
What's Going On ~ Marvin Gaye
Smells Like Teen Spirit ~ Nirvana
London Calling ~ The Clash
Thunder Road ~ Springsteen
Black Dog ~ Led Zeppelin
White Light/White Heat ~ Velvet Underground

These are not necessarily my favorite songs by the artists, but I chose the ones that were very influential... And, yes, I have 11... I told you it was impossible! There are so many phenomenally important songs that are not on the list!

Rather eclectic but all great songs:-

Fleetwood Mac : Need Your Love So Bad (with Peter Green singing)
Louis Armstrong : Wonderful World
Prince : Purple Rain
Beatles : A Day in the Life
Bon Jovi : Bed of Roses
Commodores : Three times A Lady
Spyro Gyra : Morning Dance
Billy Joel : She's Got a Way About Her
Fats Domino : Blueberry Hill
Queen : Killer Queen

10 is not enough...I love many other songs that make my toes curl!

It's surprising how much you give away about your personality with your top 10 choice isn't it!
