Rather than continue to hi-jack Jolana's thread during her temporary absence, I will post further cryptic crosswords clues here until she returns and wishes to take back the reins!

I'm wondering if anybody can throw some light on the wordplay of a clue in this week's "The Week" magazine crossword? I have the answer but am never completely happy if unable to fathom the wordplay.

1a A leader in Sun that's about standard mocking banter (10)

Answer is PERSIFLAGE (mocking banter), and I can see FLAG (standard) and IE (that's) but simply can't see where the remaining letters are from.

Just a guess, Ivor. A leader might be a rep - backwards (about) = PER, with S for sun?

Sue that's far better than anything I came up with, but I've now been sent the following explanation from another site:

Per - A ( £x per/a head etc)
Leader in the Sun - S
That is - I E (about/around)
Standard - Flag

I still prefer your answer! o:)

I'm sure you're right with CASING for 15a Sue, and you asked for the word play.

15A Moulded object losing temperature outside (6)

I believe it's Moulded object = CASTING losing T(emperature) = CASING (which is outside)

Blimey! As the sports commentators would say, "Ivor's on fire!" (Always gives me mental vision of a player racing across the field with flames and smoke streaming behind.) 8^)

I think we've been abandoned, Ivor - or maybe they have discovered the Stickler's website and are wandering around like kids in a sweetshop. 8^)
