Grafton, Sue
California. She lived in the fictional town of Santa Theresa, about a hundred miles north of L.A.
Kinsey Milhone. Kay Scarpetta is created by Patricia {Cornwell;} V.I.Warshawski by Sara {Paretsky;} Carlotta Carlyle by Linda Barnes.
Rosie's. I am not sure that she really likes the food at Rosie's but she likes the clientele.
Have a letter in the title. All her books start with a letter and they go in order. A is the first book, B is the second, etc. Janet Evanovich novels have a number in the titles.
Her aunt. She was raised by her aunt. She always thought that she had no other relatives. However she does have some cousins.
Twice. Yep, she has two ex-husbands.

Henry Pitts. She lives in a garage that has been turned into a small loft apartment right behind Henry's house.

Rosie's Tavern. Although Kinsey does love her QP with cheese, her usual hangout is Rosie's, a dingy tavern just down her block. Her favorite spot is the booth in the back.

the deceased's secretary. Sharon was willing to give Kinsey information related to Laurence's death, but because Kinsey was late in meeting her, Sharon was killed. "Sharon was sprawled out on the living-room floor ..."
Bob Dietz. Robert Dietz makes his first appearance in Chapter 9, but just in passing. In a couple of years, he plays a major role in her professional and personal life.
he is deaf. Nikki had a mild case of the German Measles before she knew she was pregnant with Colin. Colin was Laurence's son and is 12 years old.
Dog Groomer. Laurence's first wife, Gwen, opened her own business - a dog groomer. I love Kinsey's issues with dogs throughout this series!! One of my favorite insights into her personality is when she describes her feelings about canines: "Dogs and I do not get along. The inevitably stick their snouts right in my crotch, sometimes clamping themselves around my leg as thought to do some kind of two-legged dance."
Laurence's partner. Charlie Scorsoni is introduced in Chapter 4. By the end of the book, we all figure out that he is the real murderer!
making crossword puzzles and baking. "My landlord, Henry Pitts, is a former commercial baker, who makes a living now, at the age of 81, by devising obnoxiously difficult crossword puzzles ..."
poisoned with oleander. We learn about his death through Kinsey remembering the case: "He was taking medication for numerous allergies and before he went to bed, he downed his usual capsule ... he'd died as a result from ingesting oleander, ground to a fine powder and substituted for the medication in the capsule he took..."
1968 VW. "The VW's a '68, one of those vague beige models with assorted dents. It neds a tune-up but I never have time."

she stumbled over a cracked concrete sidewalk. Kinsey, investigating for California Fidelity, read that the claim was only for $4800. However, the company wanted to be sure the claim hadn't been "trumped-up."
Santa Teresa. "Often it is sixty-seven degrees and fair. The nights are consistenty cool. Seasonally it does rain but the rest of the time, one day looks very much like the next and the constant, cloudless blue sky has a peculiar, disorienting effect..."
Laurence Fife. Nikki Fife hired Kinsey to find out who really killed her husband; she had been inaccurately tried and convicted of the murder, and spent eight years in jail for it. As she said, "By the time Laurence died, I didn't give a damn about him."
California Fidelity. As described in Chapter 1, Kinsey at one time worked for California Fidelity Insurance Company, but at this point they have a "loose relationship." "I do a certain number of investigations for them in exchange for two rooms with a separate entrance and small balcony..."
Elaine was killed by Marty Grice, who was disguised as Pat Usher. All said and done, this was a strange case - Elaine was killed and her body was set aflame to make identification impossible. She was killed by Marty, who then stole Elaine's identity and travelled to Florida. There, she changed her identity again to Pat Usher while her plastic surgery work healed. If she didn't have such a hot temper, she probably never would have been caught!!
someone stole Elaine's identity. After talking with the furier, Kinsey realizes that " ... someone's been borrowing Elaine Boldt's identity." She showed him the photograph of Elaine and Marty - neither of which he remembered as being the woman who sold him the coat.
American Express. Kinsey went to Santa Teresa Travel after speaking with Beverly's husband. Elaine had been a customer of theirs for years, but strangely enough, the ticket that Kinsey had in her possession that supposedly belonged to Elaine was purchase at a ticket booth - something that she never did.
Jonah Robb. Kinsey first meets Jonah in this book, and he becomes an intricate mess in her life from this point on. Jonah has an on again-off again relationship with his wife, Camilla, and during the "off again" times, he and Kinsey become involved in more than just detective work!

Leonard and Marty's home; Marty was allegedly killed. According to the newpaper report, Marty was "bludgenoned to death during an apparent burglary in her westside residence ... was struck repeatedly with a blunt instrument and doused with flammable liquid."

alike to Whitman Samplers. Kinsey admires Vera's ability to be beautiful without much effort. She chain smokes and drinks too many Cokes, but yet men can't keep their hands off of her! As she says, "I figure guys are like Whitman's Samplers. I like to take a little bite out of each and then move on before the whole box gets stale."
